While this film mostly turns into a standard actioner, I do love the satiric yet very prophetic atmosphere they set up - we're not too far off in reality. The best is the use of the word "patriot" throughout. In the remembrance of Buzzsaw and Sub-Zero - two hired killers for the oppressive state: "Say their names, with reverence! As patriots they died!" Or during the credits, "weapons provided by Coltchester, the pistol of PATRIOTS!"

Yet mentality of american reality-show consumer mob is shown well.And the use of word "patriot" in this context is funny and reminds me of current monopolizing of the word by tea-bagging rednecks.

But yes, the abuses of the word "patriot" and "freedom" really do fit a world where say, Freepers or Limbaugh fans ran the country. Hell, JV's called "Capt. Freedom" who gives "criminals, traitors, and enemies of the state exactly what they deserve"; a reich winger's wet dream of society. Heck, if you oppose the War on Iraq you're called "unpatriotic".
