  • As long as I live I will never forget or look past the sacrifices that all veterans have made. I have the honor of having two WW2 veterans in my family and I'm proud to even share the same last name as them. I said it once, and I'll say it again; my generation need to learn about, and appreciate the freedom that has been given to us and not to just look past it as if it is some right. It is a privilage to have the freedom we have today and in no way what so ever is it free. God bless America.

  • It sickens me to see so early after the worst world war ever fought that there are already masses of ignorant young people who are neo-Nazis, admirers of Hitler, Holocaust deniers, and the rest of historically impaired hate mongers spitting in the faces of the 405,000 dead Americans and the hundreds of thousands of survivors who were never the same, including my father. I think it's time you shut up or grow some stones and be prepared to take what you have coming.

  • The War (the film) was a reminder of the dangers of war, the veterans being interviewed will never have to be reminded of war. unfortunately the only true way to remind a world of the devastation of war is to go through war over again, this is why humans can never see peace. this is because there are people in this world who want to see the earth burn under their will and there will always be people fighting for a just and righteous cause, for freedom and the brave. that is America.

  • @a10kendall Strangely it was The War that brought America to that view. And up until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, it was for the rest of the world to worry about.

But that is not how it is today. And it is not only America. You do not stand alone, as you did not let us stand alone then. . . though it took you a while to get there. :)

    Signed,

    Canada

  • Even though they don't know us, they defend our country and our rights no matter what. What a selfless act of love and courage. Thank you Veterans' for even making it able for me to post this comment right now. For the right to this freedom of speech. God bless you all.

  • I just watched this documentary on Netflix yesterday. Just amazing! I recommend everyone see it at least once. Thank you for posting these songs!

  • Our glee club is doing this for veteran's day!

  • We did this for choir.

  • 1 Liberal viewed this video.

  • These were not boys that thought they could actually save the world, but in the end they did. When they left home, they hoped that the world war would not change them too much, but then they changed the world. These were not old men when they did this for us..but they are now. These were not people in the autumn of their of life...but they are now. These were not heroes when they left home..but they are now. They gave their best...their best years of life..to us. How can anyone give any more?

  • Last Year I dedicated this song to the Souls who died on Sept 11, 2001 This year I continue that dedication to Victims of the Horrible day and their families. May God bless them and Bless America.

  • Please note: this song was composed - music and lyrics - Gene Scheer. Norah Jones sings a lovely, lovely version of this song but she did not write it.

  • I am sorry that my generation has forgotten the meaning and the reason we should stand up and fight for what really matters. Many men such as yourselves have kept America free. Unfortunately, my generation doesn't like history and would sooner forget. It may not mean much but I just wanted you to know that I am very thankful and humbled by your sacifices for America. I know that I am just one. But my children will be tought of your great deeds and will remember. Russ Howard

  • America the beautiful ! America the free ! May you always be proud of those who have given their lifes blood to defend you. To those who have gone before us all, thank you ! From a greatful American, Russ Howard

  • one more time, we justify death of our loved ones in war with patriotism, USA is right, so, little guy, go fight. Reality its the corps who make the guns who want the wars. When we pay our guys what we pay Blackwater, talk to me.

  • war is something not to be celebrated or stand behind a flag and boast about how we won them but should mourn the deaths of the fine young minds lost in its calculated murder and show our appreciation to those who were forced to fight for something they didn't have anything to do with

  • 2 of my uncles fought in ww2............one died cause his wing clipped a bombers wing he died ;( war is bad, gay, and sad some might say its awesome and all action ..really it real lives being lost people who have a life........tears always come down during this song. I will give my best to America forever i have The War made me realize how bad war is but there will always be some necessary wars......sadly :( hope i touch ur hearts with this...i salute to you America.

  • Download the audio from this clip at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • @ KimmieDHunnie I gotta admit, when I read your most highest rated comment, I got a TEAR IN MY EYE, and thus, I salute you and your proud & brave blood-line!!!

  • Norah Jones sings this with such simplicity and beauty. I think it should be our national anthem. Its lyrics focus mostly on community service and facing genuine adversity than the jingoistic and war-mongering words of the "Star Spangled Banner", which I refuse to sing or acknowledge. This song recognizes the importance of shared experiences--which may coincide with those of a nation of people--but eschews the absurdity of patriotism.

  • This is a very good song. In church today we listened to this and played a slide-show for all of our veterans.. My Papa was one of them.. he was in the US Army. I love him dearly. I think him for doing that and I'm glad he's still alive. He made me proud today. My brother wants to be in the Marines.. It scares me greatly that I'll lose him. But, he says if he has to die he wants to die for his country. Thanks to all of our veterans.

  • She gives so much talent and class to her country. What a blessing

  • Home of the free, because of the brave

Thank a servicemember, pray to whatever deity you have faith in that they may accomplish their mission and return safely to those who love them

  • This is just a beautiful song. Ken Burn's doc on WWII is wonderful and this song is a great addition to it.

  • the true war that NEEDED to be fought. we owe EVERYTHING to the veterans of WWII

  • I love you, America. Thank you to all those who served for us to be living in the world we are today.

  • I'm young. And I it upsets me a little that i don't think America will ever again feel that sense of patriotism and community that was present during ww2, and maybe more so that I might never get to experience that.

  • @gscamp The patriotism was born of blood and sacrifice in existential combat. Pearl Harbor muted most of the critics. Because we were allied with Stalin, not even the hard Left raised a cry of dissent. It was the last time Charles Lindbergh and Gus Hall agreed about anything. It would be as if Phyllis Schlafly and Noam Chomsky agreed on an American war today. I don't know if America has ever been so united, before or since.

  • @cosette2193 We sure were on September 12. By March 2003 we were as divided as we could have ever been.

  • @cosette2193 We sure were on September 12. By March 2003 we were as divided as we could have ever been.

  • @cosette2193 On Sept 12 we sure were.

  • When I listen to this song, it reminds me of those who fought to keep us free-- but it also reminds me of all those who worked to build this nation: "Battles fought together/ Acts of conscience fought alone/" When I was young my mother would tell me about all the rationing and scarcities during WWII, "Did you ever think you'd lose?" I asked. She roared with laughter and said, "God, no." No, Hitler never stood a chance, I then realized.

  • She has a beautiful voice...great song.

  • This should be our national anthem for a country that has gone so terribly wrong. Thank you Norah and I hope you have a bigger stage for this song that should shame many people over their behavior, private and public.

  • i agree. for what our country has gone through and where it is now. this would be a great National Anthem, and probably make people reflect a bit more on it.

  • sorry for my ortography

  • Great Song for a greatest Country, great voice, good bless America.

  • wonderful song. wonderful box set. these lyrics would probably be in japanese if it wasnt for our heroes in ww2

  • you're right but most likely in german lol, holy shit what a fucked up war.

  • im singing this for choir , so beautiful.

  • Great song for a great country! As far as the idiot goes, maybe u think we are a whore because we take care of pathetic nations like yours!

  • Twenty one months "in Country" - Nam from '68 to 70'. Since then I have done all I can to defend this nation and its Constitution against all enemies, foreign and (mostly) domestic.

I hope that when my time comes they will say, "he gave his best to America."

You have done justice to all of us Norah Jones.

Welcome home to all of my brothers and sisters. Welcome Home!

  • God bless you sir and thank you.

  • You are welcome my friend, Nothing special - just doing a job, which most Americans used to feel was their duty - for God and Country.

Sad, but those days seem to be in our past.

  • My mother would be mad at me if I didn't thank one of our country's protectors. You are appreciated!

I'd like to recommend a little-known but powerful (and true!) film called, "Thank You, Eddie Hart." I'd offer a synopsis of the production, but I'd wind up with a set of aquarium eyes and unable to see the 'puter screen.

  • Not really Morainej, the day of the patriot will never end in the USA. Today every person serving in the US military is a volunteer, and they are fighting and dying for us daily. There may be fewer of them, but they're still there, and still willing to set their feet and fight.

  • Thank you morainej. And Thank you is NEVER enough. Thank you for my freedom, and God Bless you.

  • tentoto and all. I appreciate all, which you have said. There has never been a need to thank me, as I was just doing a job, which I was raised to believe in, much the same as our young men and women are doing all over the world today.

But for me, the battles are different today, and have been so for many years. I fear that the biggest threat is from 'enemies', who pretend to serve us in our nation's capital. Today, we are at risk of a different kind of invasion, and I shall continue to fight.

  • Just blew me away! very moving & sad, yet makes one feel proud.

  • very nice

  • America glory, light of life , nation under god and hope of world. god bless America

  • This was my Grandfather if you are referring to WWII. This was my Uncle if you are referring to Vietnam. Of both I'm profoundly grateful. But today this is my Son a 21 year old U.S. Marine Corporal currently on his second deployment in which I am most PROUD! Lest we not forget all those that have and are currently serving these great United States of America - Home of the Free because of the Brave!!!

  • you are a hero.

  • i was in iraq...that's all i have to say.

  • much respect.

    thank you.

  • @KimmieDHunnie I pray for the safe return of your sweet son and for comfort & peace in your heart.I thank you & I thank your son, your uncle & your grandfather for protecting my family & my country. I do understand your profound pride in these brave men in your life, you see my father is a Marine-Korea fought in worst conditions possible (30 below for days on end).Ended up with frostbite, bayonet and bullet wounds. Lost my dad Jan. 1 10. He fought a great battle all his life... still mourning

  • @KimmieDHunnie SO true! In the end, what we fought for was the other guy in your unit. We cursed them and kidded them but we also defended them and tried to keep them safe. However, there is a special place in the lower regions of hell reserved for those who LIED us into wars for profit. One of my heroes is the highest decorated American serviceman, Marine General Smedley Butler, who was awarded the Marine Brevet Medal and 2 CMOHs, his book is "War is a Racket". Vietnam 69-71.

  • *smiels* this was at my last chior concert

  • absolutely beautiful. i just listened to this song 6 times in a row.

  • Someone ought to credit the composer/lyricist -- Gene Scheer...

  • terrible idea.

  • What was the terrible idea

  • Simply beautiful. This was my father and fathers of my friends. Such valiant, unknowing, and true intentions, hopes, and goals. Let us all not just remember; let us all celebrate.

  • Perhaps her most beautiful and heartfelt song and she has many in that category.
