Flemings always been my favourite player. Great Batsman, and an amazing captain. He never started trouble with anyone, and always controlled his teams so they wouldnt start anything on field. Vettori's trying his best to follow in his foot steps as a great tactical captain. Hes doing a great job too, Vetorri was under Flemings captaincy for over 10 years, so I guess he picked up a lot of things from him.

I agree jalsa9, a perfect gentleman and a meticulous tactician. As an aussie who has been accused of bias in my time, I can say that he is a stand-out when it comes to playing the game for the right reasons and he can captain my cricket side any time.

one of the best captians cricket ever seen ... he may not have records to boast but he achieved so much with a mediocore team .. he was tactically spot on with captaincy , good batsman and one of those perfect gentleman to grace the game

Such a shame that the duel captaincy never came about. Fleming could still be a test specialist and maybe we might not be getting taught such a harsh lesson by India at the moment.

And that's no insult to Daniel Vettori, also a great captain, just perhaps would have been better if there was more of a transitional period.

Fleming is probably the bets tactical cricket captain of the modern age. Especially considering the lack of players his team had, he was able to rally them and do some superb things for his country. A fine batsman too, if not a prolific century scorer.

Highly respected in cricketing circles worldwide and a true tactical genius. International cricket is worse off without him. But it's a personal decision and NZ should stand by him if that's what he truly wants. Cheers for the years Flemo, you have served NZ cricket with the utmost of dignity and have produced great results.
