  • Schnitzel translates directly as 'cutlet'. In German the suffix 'er' means 'of'. 'Wien' is the German name for Vienna. So Wiener Schnitzel simply refers to a cutlet in the style of Vienna. That style uses veal and bread crumbs and is pan sauteed in butter. If you prepare the same dish but saute in olive oil the dish is Veal Milanese.

  • Beef rouladen is perhaps the most perfect food on Earth.

  • I can't believe this guy did a show on my favorite restaurant. I was dining here before it became popular. It's a little on the expensive side but well worth it. I think the best part is their German beer.

  • My all time favorite place. great food and great beer.

  • Me and my father come here sometimes - it is the BEST place for good German food. Noone - including the one in east Phoenix (don't remember the name - something Forest IIRC), make it this good! We usually come at 8 or so on Saturdays - they have a limited selection since wer'e late, but Sauerbrauten and Schnitzel is ALWAYS there. GOD IS IT GOOD!!!!!!!!

  • real schnitzel is veal not pork

  • @powsmowl

A Schnitzel in German is a slice of pork or veal haunch. Only if it is made of veal and coated in bread crumbs is it called Wiener Schnitzel; a pork version is called Schnitzel Wiener Art (Viennese type schnitzel). These are served with a slice of lemon and without a sauce. Both often are referred to as simply Schnitzel. Other kinds of Schnitzel may be served without the bread crumbs but with a sauce

  • @RebeltubeStation

I think youre not 100% right there...a schnitzel is ALWAYS covered with the bread crumb coating (as far as i know..thats what makes it a schnitzel)..without it would be a kottlet or filet i think. And it comes also as chicken/turkey. Only Wiener got a strict rule how to make it..else its not original. Wiener Schnitzel (or wiener art) comes only with a slice of lemon and others come with sauce and got a different name (Jägerschnitzel, zigeunerschnitzel, etc)

  • More people are familiar with the pork version, since German American influence is greater than Austrian here in the US. Schnitzel is now a reference to how a particular meat is prepared and cooked, and not a specific kind of meat. You can "schnitzel" anything, even turkey.

  • I ate here yesterday and had the potato pancakes appetizer and Paprika Schnitzel. Very good, Great even. I can't wait to go back!
