  • this is so cool...kinda like a window into the past as far as locomotive technology goes

I used to loooooove trains as a kid

  • wk&s 2 may be a good backup engine

  • thats one bumpy track man

  • those valves need to be reset!

  • As I understand it they relaid track on some original railroad roadbed. But what railroad was it and how much roadbed is left that hasn't been relaid?

  • Does she burn anthricite?

  • @WhyAyeMann Yes she does - cleanest coal-fired steam locomotive I've ever seen. You get to watch them shovel a load in when they start out as part of the tour.

  • in the uk we used to have a smaller engine with no roof for the cab which went down the copper mines to gather up all resources

  • how did you get a cab ride?

  • IF I WIN THE LOTTERY, IM THINKIN THIS TRAIN IN MY BACKYARD

  • by all means if you are in PA along I-81 take in this attraction.

I was very glad I did. also take in the mine tour as well.

this has been in operation for many years and the people there did it all

by them selfs. they mantain it and operate it. the ONLY Narrow Gauge Vulcan operating in the world.

  • Awesome video! I will have to make the trip.

  • This looks interesting.

  • Haha, cute saddle tank! Love the whistle on that.

  • I live in Yorkshire and fromn a young age I was always fascinated by steam trains. I spent entire weekends at the York Museum and various local railways, and now I'm 18 I'd like to take this passion further, (or revive it slightly at least,)

Has anyone got any suggestions of how to get back into general train-obsessiveness? :D:D

    Love the vid btw! x

  • if u still live in yorkshire volenteer for the north york mors railway!

  • @PokefanDP try railfanning or looking into some well known train rides

  • sounds a bit out of quarter/square...

  • is that a locomotive from the wanamie coal mine ????

  • how did you get to go in the cab?

  • fine little saddle tank!

  • the most out of time engine?

  • I rode this train and the mine train many years ago in the 80's sometime between 1980-1985.

  • It sounds like a British whistle.

  • Thanks for the very nice video.

  • How long is their museums railroad track goes?

  • It's not long at all, only about 3/4 of a mile... They make it very interesting, though, and the scenery in certain spots is truly remarkable, with mountain views and overlooks, etc... It's worth your trip.

  • My Great Grandpa used to mine in this tunnel :D

and I just got back from our trip to PA, we went on the tour again and my Great Grandma told my mom that you could tell the men were working in the coal mine, because the only thing you could see was the whites of their eyes

  • thats gotta be the most out of time engine ive ever heard neat lil thing though

  • god that whistle must get annoying

  • @xxxDeath9572xxx I agree! Have somebody build them a nice 3 chime!

  • What an adorable little switcher!

  • Woah, fancy gloves!

  • You know, I live in Schuylkill County but have never been to the Pioneer Tunnel... I see enough coal mines without an official tour.

  • Great video! Thanks for posting!

  • Great Video! I need to visit this place!

  • nice its interesting to hear a whistle like that every now and then

  • Interesting video you have there!

  • Très belles images Fèlicitations et Merci !

    Glenn.

  • thanks yet again joe...

    Steve In Canada...A+

  • Great video, Joe! There is more to this place than meets the eye. The RR employees are very friendly and are more than willing to show you around and answer any questions you may have. Definitely makes for a nice day-trip if you happen to be in the area. Highly recommended!

  • Yeah.. What is that whistle? a 2 inch hooter? lol.

  • Great video of a neat little RR operation! I've been dying to get up here... but just haven't devoted a day to the place. Though that tea-kettle whistle is a bit annoying.

  • Great Video Joe! I haven't been there since I was little! I'm glad you did this as I don't tend to see much of this place on youtube!!!!!

  • good vid. i was up there once, i think in either 1996 or 1997. Nice coal mine tour and steam ride.
