Thank you chopsnslams! That's exactly what I was thinking. Yikes! I did this show twice, and as GOD as my witness, I will never do it again. . . . unless money is offered.
Not to mention that footage of the original Grease has got to be EXTREMELY hard to find, the closest thing anyone can find is the OBC and this commercial! It seems like everyone seems to have almost forgotten the more seedier and darker side of the show thanks to the movie. I'm not saying the movie sucks,in fact I treasure the movie! It's just that I should absorb as much of Grease's past as possible, being a major fan and all.
The '94 revival is the best example of what you're saying. Many of the beloved songs, such as 'Greased Lightning' and 'Beauty School Dropout' in particular, were completely RUINED in that production! At least the newest revival has integrity by keeping the charm of the songs intact, even if the leads were chosen 'American Idol'-style and songs from the movie were added.
I saw the revival in the 90s. It was fun but I felt it was too much like the movie. But, the current revival seems even worse... replacing many of the original songs with the movie's songs!!!!
As much as I cherish Grease and would love to see any sort of footage from the ORIGINAL Broadway production(no movie,no '94 cast, not even the recent 'Max & Laura'),this commercial just makes it look somewhat too goofy.

Thanks BB. The 70s version was so much better than the revivals that followed. Those who never saw it, do not know what they missed!

And-I think the original stage version was better than the mega hit film.

I think so also. It was raunchier and was more of a group piece that the sanitized film! Although I do love the film too...

Is this really the "Original" Grease broadway cast? Where's Adrienne Barbeau and Barry Bostwick?
chopsnslams 3 years ago
It's not the original cast; it's circa 1975. You can see Marilu Henner (blue top/ blonde wig).

Still,it's a priveledge for me to feast my eyes on footage from the original 1970's Grease.

Indeed! IMHO, the play was better before the movie.

I think the movie (as successful as it was) ruined the original version and all subsequent productions.
