  • hanger on pvc pipe... big shit took me about 2 seconds to figure that one out

  • and what does this tool do for the tank please reply i want to know cause im gettign sand and want to know every thing

  • @jaelynnful before cleaning mix sand up (a hand is sufficient and will work better). The filter will pick up most and everything else will settle on top. lightly vacuum with gravel vacuum.

  • what are you doing ?

  • just use a metal hanger and bend it lol

  • lol i do that with my hand...

  • i just switched to sand in my tank, Walmart decor beach sand. Rinsed it obvioulsy so it doesnt cloud my water at all. looks nice, but i dont have fish or snails to stir it up for me so how often should i move it around/dig it up?

  • that is a good tool where can i buy it

  • @stevenxbox360playsta

take a piece of 1/2 inch pvc and a hair brush comb. Dont use a hanger the comb is much better. Then glue the handle of the comb up in the pvc

  • i tried the deep sand be rout in ruge and in tank. even with seeding the tank with natural sifters of all kinds that dont eat the good critters in the bed. the bed just ends up being a crap trap. i may just gravel suck the bed to the sand is 2-3 inches . the sand is super hard telling me there is no life below the bed and snails wont go below .5 inches also telling me the sand go to hard and has possible bad gasses. DSB is just a pain in the butt if you dont have a tun life in the sand to begin

  • at least i know what he did with his broken net ;)

  • Making this thing seems to be a waste of time. You should really put your decorations in before your sand, especially if your piling rocks because they should be stable so they don't fall and crack your tank. Once the decorations are in, this thing is going to be too bulky to churn your sand efficiently. You should really just use you hand.

  • no it broke when i had the gravel, not the sand....i went cheap and didnt buy the gravel, so it had pointy sharp edges, and when i put a big rock i it the bottom cracked, so after i fixed it i switched to sand.

  • just use a coat hanger :P

  • umm can't you just use the back or your fish net lmao or your hand

  • Isn't messing with your sand frequently part of the maintainance to prevent gasses from building?

  • i just switched from gravel to sand in my oscar tank (the bottom broke when i put a big rock in) i caulked it and fixed it. is there anything special you have to do. i dont have live sand or any of that bullshit its just sand from the local gravel bed with a little bit of dirt mixed in.

  • ok i can see if you used this method at the start up of a new tank but if your gonna have live rock you might wanna put the live rock in first then your live sand but thats just what i do ....but i guess this may work for you ...and i like the more natural look of just using your hand to move the sand around BUT HEY SOME PEOPLE JUST DONT WANNA GET THEIR HANDS WET(they should not be in this hobby)

  • this is a waste you dont need to do that to your sand what an ass you never mess with your sand bed let you critters do it for you

  • As you can see in the video its to smooth and even out the sand in a brand new tank.

  • @AquariumForum I think the uneven look of the sand (as long as its the same depth) gives an awesome natural look to a tank. Evening out the sand makes it kinda plain.

  • What is the point of doing that?

  • Is this supposed to be for releasing the gasses?

  • yes

  • yay go sand! ^^

  • wow, very clever idea, thanks for sharing

  • you have a dog and a hardwood floor dont you. lol

  • cool genius!!

  • awsome sand raking

  • you should put live rock in first, that way the sand provides support for the base of the rock. And a large water flow will just unsmooth it.

  • I've never seen that done before. Is that done in the begining of setting up a marine tank? Because I heard that your not supposed to disturb the sand bed at all.

  • once it has been set up for a while and there is bacteria growing in it. after that yeah your not supposed to mess with it.

  • The sand bed has regions without oxygen which is essential for certain anaerobic bacteria for breaking down nitrates into harmless nitrogen. You can read up more on the nitrogen cycle in marine tanks.

Also, stirring up the sand may cause detritus materials to be exposed to the water thus encouraging algae bloom.

  • Well said.^^

  • verry usefull movie .. just wondering? Got a second hand reef aqarium .. and i have all brown sand :( keep cleaning it .. but just keeps comming back .. i also have snails etc. wont i vacuum them up as well ? or isnt it that strong ( power) .. thanx for your time

  • how big is the tank???

  • 180g

  • how did u make that tube thing and how often do you stir ur sand?

  • This helps in oxygenating the sand and preventing anerobic pockets that in a large amount can kill fish. There are also snails and some bottom feeders that help do this also.

  • waste of time. most sand bottom fish tanks are marine.. hence a shit load of living rock = no space for the sand rake. thats why we have CUC's

  • what is it used for
