It should be pointed out that the Allies killed more civilians both intentionally and unintentionally than did the Axis. Most of those civilian deaths were because of the Soviet Union however the United States entered into a voluntary military (and yes to a large extent political as well) alliance with the Soviet Union so the U.S. bares much of the responsibility. The U.S. Government at the time knew what the Soviets were doing so not knowing would not be an excuse.

Thousands of Afro-Germans were executed by the Nazis in the years leading up to WWII and during it. The Sudatenland Afro-German community had about 5,000 people.

We hear so little about them because no one survived.

There is a good book called "Destined to Witness" it was written by Hans Massaquoi. It talks about what it was like growing up Black in Hitler's Germany. Little Hans was 8 in 1933. You cannot imagine it until you read about it.

ich finde das ist ein guter Anfang die Geschicht aufzuarbeiten. Es gibt eine Dozentin ihr Name ist Rosa Fava. Sie hat mehr zu diesem Thema herrausgefunden. Die Gedenkstätte in Neuengamme hat 2 Afro - Deutsche sogar aufgelistet. Das problem ist das viele einen typischen deutschen Namen hatten und die Hautfarbe nicht aufgelistet worden ist. Deshalb erstellen sich die Nachforschungen so schwierig an.

Ich hatte bis jetzt weder die Zeit noch die finanziellen Möglichkeiten das gesamte Interview mit englischen UT´s zu versehen, bzw. es ganz ins Netz zu stellen.

@RadicalAshanti Warum war er im KZ? Vielleicht, weil er Amerikaner war - 1941 trat Amerika in den Zweiten Weltkrieg ein. Das führte auch dazu, dass Deutsch-Amerikaner in den USA in Lagern gehalten und ihnen ihre Existenzgrundlagen genommen wurden.

@bluecafe22 since "Negroes" as they were called at the time, were not listed as such, but rather by Nationality, it is impossible to count the numbers (unliked Jews who were listed as Jews). He "perished probably in Auschwitz" because it is impossible to know for sure, and that is where (I'm assuming) he was last known to be.

But then he returned to Germany and got arrested in 1941 by the Nazis which took him to Ausschwitz. He got killed there, but that was never officially acknowledged.

They talk about him being a Black Child in Germany at that time, he says that he had no problems, atleast not inside the family. It was just like in any other families.

He's from Erfurt/ Thüringen, that's in former Eastern Germany. He explains, that his mother was German and his dad was from Northern America. His father came to Erfurt in 1927 to work in a Steel-factory sent by an American company. His last name was Brankson and he originally came from San Francisco. They don't have any contact anymore. His father never married his mother, because his dad had to go back to the States.

sorry guys, but I do not have the time (and money) to translate all the stuff I do. I am a black german filmmaker and German is my working language. But in a nutshell - the black guy I was interviewing, was born in 1928, illegitimate son of an African-American and a white German woman. His father perished probably in Auschwitz, while he himself survived the Concentration Camp of Buchenwald.

My comment, the icebreaker - I gathered you are a black German filmmaker, otherwise I wouldn't have written. My German mother put me in a orphanage at birth, I don't know my father. An American Black G.I. and his wife took me from Germany. Germany said I could never get my birth name back and made it easy for BlackGerman babies like me to leave. This BlackGerman ended up on the Southern Rest Plantation of Pensacola, Florida, speaking no English. Suffice I was just ecstatic to see your work.
