Try playing this on laptop speakers (or just really small or really crappy speakers) (ear phones usually won't do this) and you'll find that his growling sounds more like his previous growls. This is because he was using ear monitors to hear himself and they affected the way he heard himself growl. (they are also very small speakers) Thought this was kind of interesting.

It's great, just make sure to checkout First Utterance their second album was just not the same at all.

The single most annoying thing about all official Opeth live DVDs is the camera angle work. It is horrible on both Roundhouse and RAH and just acceptable on Lamentations. Next time they should put someone who is actually into Opeth on the cutting job so we can get shots of the cool things rather than this erratic nonsense. The Wacken (2008) material was much better cut but lacked in overall quality and setlist. I want to see Mendez slapping, the solos up close and stuff. Damn it.

I think Mikael might be trying to give his throat a bit of a rest with his growling style here, I compared this directly to blackwater park at the roundhouse tapes where his growl is more "throaty" and consistent. It's a shame that it does your voice in :/ still a brilliant performance
@AmonAmarthJunkie Yeah, there's no way you can hold it against him that his Growl is weakening. Naturally it's just going happen when you strain the vocal chords like that. The fact that he kept it as brutal as he did for well over a decade is amazing. To boot, his normal singing voice still sound flawless live. Mikael is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Period.
8:30 - when the doublekicks sets in - to infinity: the best piece of tritone-metal I've ever heard... A true hair-standing-all-over-my-body-experience!
I wouldn't judge about his growling, its just one concert , maybe he's a little cold or had some bad food that presses against the stomach , so he had to put more throat into his singing, maybe thats why they´re not that deep like on roundhouse
im not being bias or anything, i myself attended the 20th anniversary show in L.A. and pre ordered this dvd. after watching roundhouse...all i can say is that this dvd is boring as fuck. the crowd hardly moves, and neither does the band. roundhouse feels like a giant opeth party and everyones just going fuckin wild

as much as i loved the old lineup, with axe and fred they are so fucking tight now! fred is 10x the guitarist peter was....he's so proficient, mike actually looks like he falls behind sometimes.

The single most annoying thing about all official Opeth live DVDs is the camera angle work. It is horrible on both Roundhouse and RAH and just acceptable on Lamentations. Next time they should put someone who is actually into Opeth on the cutting job so we can get shots of the cool things rather than this erratic nonsense. The Wacken (2008) material was much better cut but lacked in overall quality and setlist. I want to see Mendez slapping, the solos up close and stuff. Damn it.

@joeceph Agreed, I get ADHD watching the video, it flashes like every half second, it's utterly crap :-P but the music is fucking awesome, so I just listen and close my eyes ;-)

I think Mikael might be trying to give his throat a bit of a rest with his growling style here, I compared this directly to blackwater park at the roundhouse tapes where his growl is more "throaty" and consistent. It's a shame that it does your voice in :/ still a brilliant performance

@AmonAmarthJunkie Yeah, there's no way you can hold it against him that his Growl is weakening. Naturally it's just going happen when you strain the vocal chords like that. The fact that he kept it as brutal as he did for well over a decade is amazing. To boot, his normal singing voice still sound flawless live. Mikael is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Period.

I wouldn't judge about his growling, its just one concert , maybe he's a little cold or had some bad food that presses against the stomach , so he had to put more throat into his singing, maybe thats why they´re not that deep like on roundhouse

im not being bias or anything, i myself attended the 20th anniversary show in L.A. and pre ordered this dvd. after watching roundhouse...all i can say is that this dvd is boring as fuck. the crowd hardly moves, and neither does the band. roundhouse feels like a giant opeth party and everyones just going fuckin wild
