I like how the reporters aren't narrow minded, and respect the parkour communinty. Too bad parkour is associated with crime. People don't like it because they don't know what to think. So when removed from somewhere, do it respectfully. Say "I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, it's part of a global sport called parkour. I meant no harm, and I respect what you're feeling". The person will probably smile and say, "Be careful!" but banning it is RIDICULUS!
f sake i live in tranmere by birkinhead and i go free running nearly evry day :(. just incase you didnt know there is a cool gym in liverpool toxeth (lifestyles gym)
Okay they want to ban something like this then people cannot jump a fence or climb a wall. Free running is everything it is everywhere everything you do is free running/parkour
i find this very stupid, i mean parkour is very spiritual and helps both the body and mind. if you do it you know what i mean. my senses are sharper, my body is in great shape! its just that some people need to know if you're asked to leave, then leave. i was asked to leave somewhere today and i did. i mean "anti-social", really? i mean thsi sport is worldwide. if they tried to stop this all over the world, they'd be stopping an international movement
They cant get rid of parkour.People will still do it and the police cant catch them anyway. To compromise,i think that they should build multiple areas or parkour playgrounds if you will that parkourist are satisfied with. Im just getting into parkour myself and i would be pissed if it got banned where I live.
They just don't like seeing people jumping all over their property. If Im told to leave, I leave. But seeing as a small, but large enough percentage of freerunning practicioners are delinquints or criminals. There arent many but they overlook our way of living and practicing parkour and just do it for the adrenaline rush and to escape law inforcement... As with every great party there's always a party crasher.....
Those bastards. When escalators were first invented there were many issues and look at how many escalators there are worldwide. So I think parkour would also expand worldwide (which it already has). Wherever you are it's all a form of having fun and relieving stress, it's not violent whatsoever. I think that these people are just trying to find something stupid to bitch about.
i live in townmeadow lane and i know these guys to say "hello" to,and there the best bunch of lads you can meet... dont cause trouble, dont drink, dont take drugs...and simply want to express their free running skills the best way they can
if you want to stop anti-social behaviour then stop these shop owners(you know who you are ) selling alcohol to kids...... enough said
what FAGGOTS!! how can they stop them doing parkour? the majority of people practising parkour do not damage things and have moderate consideration for members of public. and i know as a fact that daniel ilabaca is one of the most considerate free runners out there! what TWATS!
@kizzaparkour yeah dude, daniel ilabaca is probably the most inspirational free runner I know of, and if anything has nothing but love to the youth. He's just trying to express the kid in himself, that doesn't make him immature, I hate these stupid laws as much as you do.
I am shocked that they've gone to that extent to officially "Ban it" . Its definitely not right just because a few people dislike it, they automatically accuse tracuers for it.
Because of the habit that people have the need to blame someone for them being upset.
I really hope that this situation is resolved and it being Banned is discontinued because for some people its not just a hobby. It literally becomes their lifeline. You "Ban it", then you "Ban" who they are as a being...
really they think we are trying to train to run from the cops but we are not. we are doing it b/c we love it. and the ppl who got it baned are one how are not leaving when told to just leave respectably and with a smile. but any anti-social....what really they are the ones who wont get with the program. i just hope they NEVER ban in fr. OMG the home OF PARKER!!!! the cops need to go out and fight really crimes not us
not being funny but before they start banning stuff they wanna get our solider out of iraq there dying for nothing if parkour gets banned im still doing it FUCK THE POLICE BRING OUR SOLIDER BACK
you're kidding me...ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOR??? I've made more friends because of parkour and music, ugh! Government doesn't understand us, never will cause they choose not to
The red blouse lady doesn't make her case very well:
"The parkour practitioners don't engage in antisocial behaviour because it's against their philosophy blah blah blah... some people have been engaging in antisocial behaviour while doing parkour, showing a lack of understanding of the sport's philosophy..."
So the solution is to ban the sport?
She makes absolutely no link between PK and anitsocial behaviour, and weakly implies that there is no such link... very poor defense of her position.
@JacktheDaniels I love this sport, am an older person (in my 30s) & have slowly started training. Anti-social behavior is behavior that lacks consideration for others & that may cause damage to society. It has nothing to do with if you are shy.(which I am). The lady in red made a great case, basically saying some kids are going out training, but haven't taken enough care to learn the true respect of moving through urban landscapes & the people in them. People fear what they don't understand.
i dont care if your royalty, you cannot ban movement, you cannot take away self expression, i will not respect this ban, nor will i disrespect officials over this matter, continue training, and never let anything stop your movements, parkour is our way, and there is nothing we cant vault, jump, or run over/through,
Someone will always be reckless, jumping on roofs, wether they think they are practicing parkour or not, or simply saying they are, before I even knew about parkour, I also enjoyed climbing on school etc, but I've grown, learned, and I'm respecting the enviroment and training safe. And because, there will ALWAYS be some reckless kids jumping around, should that be fair for us, and those who train parkour safe and sound so get banned? The problem is not within the parkour community.
No it is because people are destorying personal property, I myself do parkour so dont think im just an everyday asshole, But just like she said the younger people who practice have no respect when asked to leave so it makes the profesionals look bad or ANYBODY who practices look bad! As for the Anti-Social part yes that is WRONG.
I have taken, and am still taking, many Psychology and Sociology courses. This is in no way harmful anti-social behaviour. The only reason it is classified as anti-social is because it does not follow with societies mores (virtues/norms). In simple terms, parkour is different. Something new that society has not seen before, and it scares certain groups of people. It empowers people to exercise freedom of movement. It changes our mindset over time, to become more free. And then they lose control.
just becouse boring people dont wanna have anything to do with parkour shouldnt mean they could impose there ways on us traceurs by not alowing us to participate in parkour, thats fascism. plus parkour has done so much for me made me happier, healthier/fitter, more social and more open to the world. freerunning is the freedum of physical expresion taking that away is like taking freedum of speech away.
In my opinion I think its stupid for a 'ban' to be put in place.Parkour/FreeRunning is a sport for every one and it does not harm any one in the community it helps younger people with their ability and confidence...if a person wants to learn parkour or do parkour no one should have the power to stop that....PARKOUR FOREVER
i know what we can do to not have trouble lets do what rob dyrdek did he made a skatespot thing were it is an urban spot but allows skating lets do the same for parkour pk spot for all it b great like having a building with every thing like a real local area
Antisocial has two senses. A normal perfectly fine one, and one that trys to continue to impose legal authority. A)Shunning contact with others
b)Hostile to or disruptive of normal standards of social behavior
In other words, they are resistant to change because there's "convention" and "normal behavior" To live with normal behavior is to live below our greatest potential. These false authorities need to get their priorities in order.
"Leave No Trace" session days are starting to pop up all over, meets like these show the building owners as well as the community that Traceurs / Traceuses respect their surroundings and want to preserve them.
In a few weeks the San Diego community is offering to wash or re paint a wall we've been using for over two years now.
In addition we started bringing own own potted plants to place in our landing areas after we are done.
A small price to pay to be able to use the area. ^_^
@kasaikun619 I think that's a spectacular idea, if it catches on more people might see we're not such bad people, and the worry of "bans" on parkour won't even be a problem :D
it's pathetic how they've banned it they proboly know nothing about parkour or free running and people have always been climbing on shit to graffiti but now parkour has come along they have something to pin the blame on
To many people fall down on public property like infront of a business and try and sue that company and or blaim them some how so when we come jumping and twisting it doesn't look good to them and they ask us to leave. This is why business should touch up the policies about hurting yourself on their property.
and two, Alot of people are very respectful and doing nothing wrong and businesses and Security guards are kicking us off their property, Public property because they do not know enough about what we are doing and why we are there. It's because they don't want us to fall and hurt ourselfs.. which get me to what I believe is the point.
As well to add to that some kids and people that are getting better at parkour just don't care enough about other people and do what they want. Then the rest of us get looked at like we are all trouble makers.
Thanks for you video. I parkour alot search me on youtube. "Keithlemay" and I think two things one, there are alot of us out there that want to get into it and just don't know where to start so, we start doing it in the wrong places and get ourselfs in trouble. Places like private property and on other people things like cars or home fences and such.
ok this is just stupid. do they know what antisocial means? because parkour/free running have nothing to do with it. being antisocial means to hate being around people, or being unwilling to make freinds, and they just banned doing backflips and running.
parkour and free running is diffrent free running is parkour with flips to make it stylish and parkour is getting from a to b as fast as possible is it not :S?
kind of, freerunning is the name, you can do anything anywhere and break any boundaries, parkour is getting from a to b as quick and efficient as possible by using any obstacle around you and by seeing your own path you express you way on the walls or rails etc
This is totally imature ....how can you ban parkour and legalize the drug possesion....that is so unfair ....if they ban parkour .....everyone who cares about it and does it with passion won't stop ....no matter what ......my message to you lot is ......Keep on running ...Never give up....Safe...and good luck
however, a few times iv'e had abuse from some random and it allmost allways turns out to be some old dear with her hand bag shouting at us for damaging property, swearing, acting agressively.
to which i answer; "What would you rather us be doing? goign out andgetting drunk, mugging some innocent girl in some alley for cash to feed our drug addiction? We go out of our way to be kind and respectfull of the public, I don't drink or do any anti-social drugs. And the wall's fine, it's made of bricks
wow... really... banning parkour? that right there is some messed up shit. in my local area (taunton) i've been training for about 4.5 years and the free running community is pretty tight knit here. the police know the score, and are pretty sound about it all. unless we actually damage something they're quite happy to let us carry on. all of us in taunton are respectfull of the public and give them right of way at all times.
The ones that knows nothing about parkours philosphy and values (ex. the antisocial people posting agressive, hatefull comments to the reporter on youtube) and the ones that know what parkours philosophy and values is about.
It's lbascily the same thing with martial arts: you got the ones that are macho and do it to fight people in the street, and then you got the real practitioners that trains accordings to it's philosophy and values - with passion.
im from moreton and often used to pass these lads doing their thing outside the library or the legion, sometimes id stop and watch from a distance danny and his friends used to jump off the shed and garden walls of a neighbour of mine and from them (about 10 yrs ago) until now i have never seen or heard of any trouble from any of these lads, what a pity to ban such harmless fun and to rob me of a little entertainment on an otherwise tedious trip to the shop.....
this is total crap, im from madison and here parkour has become a very popular thing, we have a great reputation with the athorities, we've but on public performances, and we've even performed for our mayor who thought it was awesome
i just dont see how they could call this anti social if they dont give it a chance
Does anybody know when this ban was imposed or when this news report was aired? I need it for an english speaking assesment on The value of Parkour and why it shouldn't be banned. A precise date would be good but just the month is fine. My memory is a little hazy from last year so I can't remember when it happened.
It's an Art of the Movement, not a sport. Sports are competition and theres a hierarchy. This doesnt follow what it actually means. Your ultimate challenge, is only non other than yourself.
Well there is no sign which says its forbidden to go up on the rails so they should be allowed to do so. They are training in groups the youth gets to do something. Thats way better then them smashing things or doing other crimes.
Somewhere on here someone pointed out that the traceurs in the video "obviously didn't have permission to jump on the railings". Yet they had permission to walk up the stairs. Would they have had permission to go up two steps at a time, I wonder? There is no defineable boundary where parkour activities begin, it's all down to individual opinion. For the mayor of Moreton, pk might start when someone jumps over a bench. But imagine if Ilabaca were mayor: everything would be parkour!
i am/was so proud of its parkour, im a bgirl (breakdancer) living in leeds and no that it takes long hard training and dedication to be good at parkour like breakin, it has changed my life, given me a career why would someone ban that!!!
hm... but WHAT IS PARKOUR? How to distinguish people who came on a sport ground to make climb-ups and people who want to practise acrobatics in the city square?? are they all criminals???
How they can ban parkour if there is no definition of it?
haha like banning parkour is gonna stop graffiti. Graff has been around since the beginnings of written language but has nothing to do with parkour. Not to mention that graffiti is already illegal to begin with so it's not like an artist is gonna refrain from using parkour while running from a cop just because a ban is in place. Granada sounds like a real shat place to live
tht is just pointless , okaii if 3runners know theres a place were its banned because they think its anti-social we are ganna go there to prove them wrong to be honst the council in moreton are just stupid for banning a way of life i think we(free runners) should group up go to moreton and let see them try stop about 100 of us.
what the fuck I am literally just starting I just paid £60 quid on a pair of parkour trainers and then people start 2 ban it I hope they don't ban it in nottingham or I'm fucked. Oh if anyone has any advice on how 2 start please fill me in on maybe how u started or something it'd be much appreciated.
exactly what part is anti-social why they don't ban smoking anywhere instead of that the real parkour practioners suffer because of some vandals who were imitating the movement thats what happened its always like that
in response then are you telling me that without question you only practice parkour on land, premises, and property that you have been given permission to do so including carrying at least public liability insurance and that i am wrong in saying that the practice of jumping climbing and running on private property either owned by a member of the public or the council is ok to do so according to you guy's....
Okay Ill admit you have a point there. I dont train on other peoples residence, were I train though is along a beach (picnic benches, play ground, observation point and jetty you know the usual stuff at a beach) at night so Im not disturbing people. You see its something great and new its just not conventional at the moment.
Sorry Im not a good arguer its difficult to express my view. Im only trying to say that most of us arent destructive. We call it a discipline and compare it to a martial art because it betters us. Unfortunately it seems for you that youve not been able to encounter the positive side of what we do but some shits who have abused what we do to cause chaos. I would like to discuss it more if youd like.
in every aspect of life in whatever you do there will always be the negative people who don't care ..there are lots of dodgey photographers around who would take advantage but i am not one of them.... yes i would like to see you guys in real time
if you watch this video is it obvious they don't have permission to jump all over the rails behind the reporter or are the security guys just being silly moving them on twice lol lol lol
Im glad you dont see it as a complete negative. Its just so upsetting for somebody like me and the may others like my self who dont want to cause any trouble, we just want to do our thing have some fun and better our self, but we cant because of the swines that give us a bad name as well as a little bit of ignorance. According to Wikipedia there arnt any parkour related deaths (very different from every day things like driving). I rarely ever hurt my self and Ive not once broken property.
Have they put a stop to smoking there as well? To me second hand smoke seems worse and more anti-social then Parkour, actually thats worded wrong Parkour isnt anti social most of the time people are impressed and stop to watch. I think the problem comes from the negative stereotype of young men.
I could see this happening in the US because our legal system has been so exploited for illegitimate reasons, but in the UK?! Really? Granted, I don't know the whole story behind this, but I have to presume that the reason is a perfect example of ignorance and the lack of motivation to understand otherwise.
its not something that can be banned, its an expression of movement and its essentially body art, people do things like ban it because they dont understand it and people fear the unknown, i also see parkour as a way of life, people trying to ban it for alot of us traceurs is like banning football for professional players.
its only because some local chavs try it and burgle and graffiti, im only learning the basic steps but i think it should be legal still, stupid wirral council, im from moreton may i add
Parkour is being band in the area maybe because they're are parkour wannabee's who dont understand parkour and Messing up in that place it's soo unfair..i understand what traceurs feel practicing in the area..
That's entirely correct, we have another group of so called 'practitioners' in the area who know nothing of the philosophy or the correct way of movement and in my opinion are the sole cause of this
@urbanlemur well i recomend techeng em if they dont listen telling em that were gonna loose the spot cos of em if they dont care ....it b a hole mess of things
It's classic Cum Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc on the part of the council.
Their reasoning is somewhere along the lines of: Some young people do parkour. Some young people are mischievious. Therfore, young people who do parkour are mischievious.
Totally fallacious. Any good debater would dismiss the council's assertions as rubbish.
It's a sport they shouldn't band it footballs a sport as well and they don't go dancing that so why band free running/parkour.

To many people fall down on public property like infront of a business and try and sue that company and or blaim them some how so when we come jumping and twisting it doesn't look good to them and they ask us to leave. This is why business should touch up the policies about hurting yourself on their property.
keithwiddop 1 year ago
and two, Alot of people are very respectful and doing nothing wrong and businesses and Security guards are kicking us off their property, Public property because they do not know enough about what we are doing and why we are there. It's because they don't want us to fall and hurt ourselfs.. which get me to what I believe is the point.
keithwiddop 1 year ago
As well to add to that some kids and people that are getting better at parkour just don't care enough about other people and do what they want. Then the rest of us get looked at like we are all trouble makers.
keithwiddop 1 year ago
Thanks for you video. I parkour alot search me on youtube. "Keithlemay" and I think two things one, there are alot of us out there that want to get into it and just don't know where to start so, we start doing it in the wrong places and get ourselfs in trouble. Places like private property and on other people things like cars or home fences and such.

ok this is just stupid. do they know what antisocial means? because parkour/free running have nothing to do with it. being antisocial means to hate being around people, or being unwilling to make freinds, and they just banned doing backflips and running.

djravin 1 year ago
kind of, freerunning is the name, you can do anything anywhere and break any boundaries, parkour is getting from a to b as quick and efficient as possible by using any obstacle around you and by seeing your own path you express you way on the walls or rails etc

to which i answer; "What would you rather us be doing? goign out andgetting drunk, mugging some innocent girl in some alley for cash to feed our drug addiction? We go out of our way to be kind and respectfull of the public, I don't drink or do any anti-social drugs. And the wall's fine, it's made of bricks

Digitalman271 1 year ago
wow... really... banning parkour? that right there is some messed up shit. in my local area (taunton) i've been training for about 4.5 years and the free running community is pretty tight knit here. the police know the score, and are pretty sound about it all. unless we actually damage something they're quite happy to let us carry on. all of us in taunton are respectfull of the public and give them right of way at all times.
GingerAfroMan101 1 year ago
By antisocial behavior, they mean destructive and socially disruptive, not antisocial as in lack of communication/being severely introverted.
Neji1984 1 year ago
There are two kinds of practitioners.

Does anybody know when this ban was imposed or when this news report was aired? I need it for an english speaking assesment on The value of Parkour and why it shouldn't be banned.

THANK YOU.
But imagine if Ilabaca were mayor: everything would be parkour!

haha like banning parkour is gonna stop graffiti. Graff has been around since the beginnings of written language but has nothing to do with parkour. Not to mention that graffiti is already illegal to begin with so it's not like an artist is gonna refrain from using parkour while running from a cop just because a ban is in place. Granada sounds like a real shat place to live

exactly what part is anti-social why they don't ban smoking anywhere instead of that the real parkour practioners suffer because of some vandals who were imitating the movement thats what happened its always like that
glavos4upenpk 2 years ago
Rofl, anti-social is doing something bad for society, how is that so? And like they give a damn for a ban...I dont imagine cops chasing 'em for fees.
Madmanin 2 years ago
in response then are you telling me that without question you only practice parkour on land, premises, and property that you have been given permission to do so including carrying at least public liability insurance and that i am wrong in saying that the practice of jumping climbing and running on private property either owned by a member of the public or the council is ok to do so according to you guy's....
bi9johnny 2 years ago
Okay Ill admit you have a point there. I dont train on other peoples residence, were I train though is along a beach (picnic benches, play ground, observation point and jetty you know the usual stuff at a beach) at night so Im not disturbing people. You see its something great and new its just not conventional at the moment.
TheCrazyOneOrIsItTwo 2 years ago
Sorry Im not a good arguer its difficult to express my view. Im only trying to say that most of us arent destructive. We call it a discipline and compare it to a martial art because it betters us. Unfortunately it seems for you that youve not been able to encounter the positive side of what we do but some shits who have abused what we do to cause chaos. I would like to discuss it more if youd like.
TheCrazyOneOrIsItTwo 2 years ago
in every aspect of life in whatever you do there will always be the negative people who don't care ..there are lots of dodgey photographers around who would take advantage but i am not one of them.... yes i would like to see you guys in real time
bi9johnny 2 years ago
if you watch this video is it obvious they don't have permission to jump all over the rails behind the reporter or are the security guys just being silly moving them on twice lol lol lol
bi9johnny 2 years ago
Im glad you dont see it as a complete negative. Its just so upsetting for somebody like me and the may others like my self who dont want to cause any trouble, we just want to do our thing have some fun and better our self, but we cant because of the swines that give us a bad name as well as a little bit of ignorance. According to Wikipedia there arnt any parkour related deaths (very different from every day things like driving). I rarely ever hurt my self and Ive not once broken property.
TheCrazyOneOrIsItTwo 2 years ago
why not have the balls to stand up and admit you lot cause thousands of pounds of damage to other peoples property
bi9johnny 2 years ago
Ive never caused any damage. Part of our philosophy to is to respect and take care of our environment, without it how can we train?

Have they put a stop to smoking there as well? To me second hand smoke seems worse and more anti-social then Parkour, actually thats worded wrong Parkour isnt anti social most of the time people are impressed and stop to watch. I think the problem comes from the negative stereotype of young men.
TheCrazyOneOrIsItTwo 2 years ago
I could see this happening in the US because our legal system has been so exploited for illegitimate reasons, but in the UK?! Really? Granted, I don't know the whole story behind this, but I have to presume that the reason is a perfect example of ignorance and the lack of motivation to understand otherwise.

ancestralfootprints 2 years ago
its not something that can be banned, its an expression of movement and its essentially body art, people do things like ban it because they dont understand it and people fear the unknown, i also see parkour as a way of life, people trying to ban it for alot of us traceurs is like banning football for professional players.
blitztraceur 2 years ago 3
What a video.

I think it is very important that people ignore the ban & make it unmanageable to enforce.
If they do not show that parkour cannot be banned now then it opens the rest of our communities to the same danger.
