Why is it every time I go to a "guitar" video, there's at least one sad person bashing "shredders" and saying that 1 note songs are the best thing in the world. In most cases, it's an excuse they make up for themselves for being too lazy to practice. Well, playing fast, slow.. It's all music. It's absurd playing only one way.
@RabidRahker We do not need a depth of knowledge to state a personal opinion. Everyone has person taste, likes and dislikes. Your statement shows you think you are something of an expert, someone special. My guess is that you are nothing more than arrogant.
@RabidRahker OK... you got me... I don't know how to spell a man's name. I don't care. Not a big fan, just like his version of this song the best. This is YouTube, not a term paper. Spelling is loose at best in here. I'd suggest that you hold off on trying to "burn" people by correcting spelling or punctuation. As long as you get the point, whether you agree or not; don't sweat the small stuff. Peace.
@MacPro8CoreMan Not burning anybody. When you make a comment about something you can't spell, it shows you have no depth of knowledge of the subject. It's not about spelling, but credibility. Better to refrain from comment.
I agree with rodentcafeteria. Ever fallen on yer butt onstage before and kept going?
Not easy.
Mr. Beck has hit his prime in the past few years and is now arguably the greatest electric guitarist out there. Well, ok, there's Mr. Clapton too. Classic stuff though.

Boy did this ever SUCK!!! I'd heard he had a great version of this classic so I looked it up here. I can't remember being so disappointed in a long time. The guitar sounds like a cheap Hawaiian Luau. And what's with the Buck Rogers outfit there Jeff? I have to guess that the people that like this have never heard Pavorati's little diddy! LOL
The best version of Nessun Dorma I think I have ever heard in my entire life....wow.....i'm so moved by this man and his guitar performances. He truly is a master of the Stratocaster. He makes it sing. it chills me to the bone..............
This has *nothing* next to a good opera version of this song (check out the Pavaratti, in particular). Or better yet, look up a good euphonium soloist playing Nessun Dorma. This song was never meant for guitar, and it doesn't work very well, although I grant that it is better than the majority of what I've heard out of guitars.
@Eremancer You are correct as it is meant for use as a vocal, but Jeff does a good job of this seeing that he is the master of making his guitar sound like a voice. Beatles producer has commented that Jeff is the only one that makes his guitar SING. BTW Andrea Bocelli has a couple great versions of the song on youtube as well as Pavarotti.
All you shredders that think playing 1,000 notes per second is impressive should take some notes. THIS is how you get true emotion out of an instrument!!
@Luke650 Steve Lukather??? The same guy that said the reason Toto never hit it big was because people simply have no taste? I say the reason Toto never hit it big is because, sooner or later, people recognize music that sucks!!
@rodentcafeteria Haha dude, funny story. I'm a "shredder" playing Van Halen and stuff, because it's more technically challenging (and impresses more girls :D). But I learned to play Beck, Clapton, Hendrix and SRV so when I get heckled I can whip out a blues lick and seem like a smartass... long story short, you've got a pretty good point!
@slashfrehley42 You sound like a very well-rounded player which is pretty cool. But, tell me this, if you're getting "heckled" while you're up there "shredding," what does that tell you? And thank God you didn't mention Yngwie as an influence.
@rodentcafeteria Absolutely right - endless shredding is utterly boring, just scale riffing and fretborard fireworks without an ounce of emotion (but often lots of painful face-pulling). Excellent comment.
@rodentcafeteria Apples and oranges. Fast playing IS impressive, and so is this. It is possible for some of us to appreciate both. People who slag fast playing usually can't play fast.
@RabidRahker I agree. Fast playing is definiitely impressive - for about 10 seconds!!! While I can appreciate the knowledge and skill it takes to do it, it can and often does become redundant; like listening to a typewriter. But to each his own.
@rodentcafeteria dude i totally agree... i timed myself at my fastest playing 18 notes per second and i can make a medal backing track and shred to it easily when i don't even play medal, i play blues.. and this slow perfect, precise playing is what amazes me.
never thought ot JB looking like Han Solo, but you do have a point. i love that he laughs @ himself and does not miss a beat. my favorite aria played by my favorite guitarist! amore Jeff! a little comedy and great music from Who Else?
@drockadam6 you can d/l the whole show at dimeadozen but first u need to simply d/l something called utorrent first...you can also d/l his nyc & london 2010 shows there too
@drockadam6 I heard that Jeff mopped the floor with Clapton. A lot of casual fans probably went to see Claptonas he is more famous. When I mention Beck to most people don't know him. After seeing him perform a set with EC though I guess they find out in a hurry who the MAN is.
i like how the all play with vests on/tank tops...... i wonder if that really frees your arms up more hahah

Jeff played in Malmo, Sweden on the 16th of June 2011...
He finished the concert with this, and it was fantastic.
I'm so happy that I could see Jeff live.
