The REAL star of this track is Waddy. It's who Keith Richards would call for work if Keith were recording a solo album. Oh, he did? Twice? Well, there you go.
Thank you for all the work and info you put into this video. I love Warren but learned quite a bit. I do appreciate it. I still miss him, but I see that there are many others that do also. We Wont' Forget! Thank you for posting.
Bonnie Raitt played slide guitar on this track not David Lindley, Waddy Wachtel is who is kicking your ass playing rythm guitar (love his tone) with that bonecrunching Les Paul of his.
@revidffum He was my first thought that it really sounds like him, but Raitt is a great slide guitarist and she isn't singing that much on the track. So, now I'm back to wondering.
I'm thinking Raitt is playing the main guitar track. Browne is a great singer song writer, and he can pull off that rhythm chord that's going on the whole time, but he's not pulling off the melody, and singing, that's just my opinion though. He is capable, but why, when you're surrounded by great musicians like Lindley and Raitt?
good video man, love jackson browne, only recentley got into zevons music, loving it. i'm more than half way through his book, dirty life and times: i'll sleep when im dead, very good read
Thanks for this, I loved Zevon's work. One correction though. The Linda Ronstadt cover was on her "Simple Dreams" album, not "Hasten Down The Wind". (The two albums were released less than a year apart, so the tracks are often confused.)
The other obscure genius singer/songwriter/musician referenced is the late great Stuart Adamson of Big Country and The Raphaels. If you are a Zevon fan I'm sure you would like them. And I agree with you Clevererouge.the riff does remind me of King of Emotion.
Brilliant version, although I swear that's the riff from Big Countrys' King of Emotion. Another obscure genius songwriter. All covers of this tune seem to lose the 4th verse of the original... too un-PC I guess.
I miss you Warren....

I was looking for the slide guitar credit and then I went "Duh!" It's Ms. Raitt and she tears it up.

I think that slide guitar is being played by David Lindley, he has worked with both Browne, and Zevon

Of course I couldn't read the Ronstadt album title I, along with any other man who is alive, was looking at her nipples.

Irony ...Linda Ronstandt thinking this was a sad song .... not the tounge in cheek , sarcasm as Warren wrtote it. Hey he had bills in the early 70's

utterly lame that they skip the last (and best) verse.

A Quiet Normal Life. Did they change the title?
Is it the same album? Are there desperadoes
under the eaves? What a songwriter. What a loss.

I think "A Quiet Normal Life" is a Zevon best of, this is a tribute to him. :) Agreed on the extent of the loss.

I've been listening to a different version of this, and they removed it! I was so mad for a few weeks, and I just found this version. Thanks so much!
