I feel like we all live in some alternate universe where the laws are extremely irrational. I mean, we make alcohol and cigarettes (kills millions) legal, but make weed illegal (hasn't harmed a soul). Initially, if California make weed legal it will be a boom to the economy, but if other states follow suit, I think it would have a net negative effect on the economy, as people would not rush to California to live in a free state. That would be awesome for awhile. I would move out of Georgia, my buddy sold an ounce of weed here and somehow ended up with over ten years on probation due to complications. I think he got in a fight in jail or something.

I was making a comparison. Read the second to last sentence in my original post and you'll see the connection I made between legalizing marijuana and Ebonics. Also, it is very possible that more people will try and become used to marijuana just because it is legal. And if marijuana is legalized, there can be more high people on the road and in public, killing other people and causing nuisances - just like alcohol does. Overall, people can't be trusted with their own judgment.

I used to be really unhappy (not depressed). I was never invited to hang out with friends, I spent most of my time indoors cause I had nothing better to do. Ever since I started smoking pot, I've been with friends every weekend, started to pull up my grades from C's and D's to A's and B's, and have been happy ever since. Pot changed my life for the better for all I know.

@buckup23 Pot made me happier. Therefore I had more initiative to accomplish things (i.e. pull up my grades). My friends and I smoke pot for recreational purposes. It's the same thing as going to skateboard with your friends or anything like that (which I do too). And I've researched plenty of facts on marijuana weeks before I even started, so when I have kids, I'll teach them the true facts about weed instead of brainwashing them like most people.

well thats the problem for me. teenagers. i don't have a problem if a 21 year old adult decides to smoke a joint. in fact, i am fine with that. but i am against 14 years old kids smoking up because of peer pressure even though they may not neccessarily like doing it, but do it anyway just to fit in. that is my whole issue with this drug. its young people, because they're not mature enough yet to make that decision and often don't know the potential risks to their mental health they could face

Yes, marijuana does have risk to still developing brains. Only a few percentage are at risk, not all. Keep in mind the same could be said with vaccines, medicines, and other substances.
Prohibition causes crime and prices to go up. It creates opportunity for drug dealers and gangs to make huge profit. They'll sell to anyone who has money, including kids. By making it legal, you drive prices so low it won't be worth their time.

well i do agree with you that legalization could actually have a positive affect on people where they actually end up consuming less and becoming more educated about the effects, particularly teens. It works well in the Netherlands. However, the US is different to the Netherlands, in that there is a different system here than there; personally I think a legalized system in the US would be subject to huge abuse.
And then we have to think about another point; if we legalize weed, what about all the other drugs. Why stop at weed? Might as well then legalize Cocaine again. Actually you do not loose brain cells as a result smoking marijuana. The effects are more on the transmition of information. Think of it like a temporary swelling of the highway that carries information. Like any other swelling it will take a while to go down.
I think a young person that does not have a fully developed brain can get some mental health problems from it but that's with cigarettes and alcohol too. Obviously if it where legalized there would be an age limit just like everything else.

I can't buy a frearm anymore.. no felonies and no violent past.. I lost the two best jobs I ever had.. making 1,500 - 1,700 a week... and marijuana had ntohng to do with it but i tested for thc... and was fired. I've been arrested twice .. i used to get searched everyday it seemed like when i could afford to keep my car running.. oh yeah they never asked permission to search and said they didnt need it because im known for having pot now..

I used to be really unhappy (not depressed). I was never invited to hang out with friends, I spent most of my time indoors cause I had nothing better to do. Ever since I started smoking pot, I've been with friends every weekend, started to pull up my grades from C's and D's to A's and B's, and have been happy ever since. Pot changed my life for the better for all I know.

It's the same thing as going to skateboard with your friends or anything like that (which I do too). And I've researched plenty of facts on marijuana weeks before I even started, so when I have kids, I'll teach them the true facts about weed instead of brainwashing them like most people.

Yes, marijuana does have risk to still developing brains. Only a few percentage are at risk, not all. Keep in mind the same could be said with vaccines, medicines, and other substances.
Prohibition causes crime and prices to go up. It creates opportunity for drug dealers and gangs to make huge profit. They'll sell to anyone who has money, including kids. By making it legal, you drive prices so low it won't be worth their time.
This leaves only license and regulated stores to sell to adults.

It works well in the Netherlands. However, the US is different to the Netherlands, in that there is a different system here than there; personally I think a legalized system in the US would be subject to huge abuse.
