Most people think Temple of the Dog came after Pearl Jam was created and that it's a PJ / Soundgarden collaboration. Not true. Cornell (Andrew Wood's roommate) and Gossard/Ament (Andrew Wood's bandmates from Mother Love Bone) created the album prior to Pearl Jam being created. Eddie obviously was on a few tracks.

Temple of the Dog just gains massive popularity later due to the successes of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam.
