  • 5:03 One of the many reasons why Big Bird is and always will be my favorite Sesame Street Muppet!

  • OMG WHY IS EVERYONE ARGUING ABOUT BIG BIRDS TYPE OF BIRD?! HE'S SAYING A DIFFERENT ONE EACH TIME BECAUSE HE HAS NO SPECIFIC TYPE! HE'S JUST BIG BIRD!

  • Where's The Bald Eagle When You Need Him?

  • This Is From 1986-1987

  • This Is After The Declaration Of Independence Sketch

  • I have to say...this skit was really entertaining to watch...especially because the reenactment was so superbly done! I agree with all thw other posters who mention that it's a great way to teach kids at an early age how the American Revolution works. Let me see if I have it correct - Telly as Ben Franklin (gotta love it lol)...Bert as Thomas Jefferson, Ernie as John Adams...but who are Oscar and Elmo role playing? And...did Thomas Jefferson really wish for the national bird to be a pigeon?

  • (cont''d)

....And Big Bird's cameo at the end STILL cracks me up to this day lol...even as a child, the first time seeing this sketch, I had a hunch that Big Bird would somehow be included. given that it's SS after all...and they were speaking of birds lol so funny :) And what judge is Harry portraying?

  • @sweetlife031 LOL

  • @sweetlife031 IDK

  • haha elmo is wearing a powdered wig! so cute!!!

  • @Djdukie727 HAHAHAHAHA!

  • wow this was great wouldn't see a skit like this today.

  • @MrGrorg Yeah

  • What I love about this skit is the voice work of the puppeteers. To me, this was their best. There's Jerry Nelson as Herry, Marty Robinson as Telly and the voice of the announcer, Kevin Clash as Elmo, Frank Oz as Bert, Jim Henson as Ernie, and, of course, Caroll Spinney as Oscar and Big Bird who appears at the hilarious ending.

  • @Rltpage I C

  • These skits are a great way to teach about the Revolutionary War.

  • @SomeFluffer64 MMM HMM

  • One person who disliked this video wanted the cockatoo. =o)

  • Liked how Thomas Jefferson wanted the pigeon, just to be more Bert

5 Star video! Big Bird cracked me up at the end!

  • Ben Franklin really DID think the national bird should be the turkey. Clever way to teach kids that.

  • i knew big bird would come

  • Weres Sam Eagle when you need him?!?

  • wheres cookie monster?!

  • i thought ernie would choose a rubber duckie

  • @Arceuszilla Me too!

  • what! no SAM?!

  • A cockatoo? Are you putting me on?

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I rofl'd at the end. xD Poor big bird.

  • Who's the better John Adams, Paul Giamatti or Ernie?

  • @mdfilmguy Ernie by a long shot.

  • Everyone was supposed to get a democratic turn. Why was Elmo ignored?

  • @DanoKrazy Because he had to vote for the eagle, and because he'd had so much air time with his questions. :)

  • Racism!

  • @DanoKrazy He had no idea i guess

  • He didn't do his homework and forgot his bird project at home. See kids thats what happens when you don't do your homework. Nobody will pay attention to you.

  • I liked how Herry became sarcastic when he says, "Ahh, come on guys come order!!!"

  • If you ask me, this whole skit was for the birds, if you'll pardon the expression.

  • 3:20 "Some bird with a toupee?" LOL ^^

  • Today, we are in the middle of the SECOND American Revolution!

  • You chose the Eagle?! Well thankyou very much!!!!!! gotta love big bird

  • And Telly looks JUST LIKE Ben Franklin. I wonder what it might of been like to get ROOSEVELT Franklin to play BEN Franklin? But then again, by this time, Roosevelt was "discontinued".

  • LMAO!..."Some bird with a toupee?"

Oscar is so funny in this. This is when he was a GROUCH. Not all PC like today.

And Big Bird's ending is halarious! Gotta luv Big Bird! : )

  • you chose the EAGLE? THANK you VERY MUCH!. gotta love big bird!!

  • @avrgejo

I know....it's hysterical lol....it was bcause Big Bird was hoping they'd choose him, right?

As a child, I didn't pick up on that right away...but now I think I get it lol

  • @avrgejo LOL

  • go pidgeon!!!!!

some bird with a toupee?? I love sesame street!!

  • I love that, too! "SOME BIRD WITH A TOUPEE?!!!!!" I laughed like a hyena when I heard that!

  • how awesome would it be for the national bird to be a turkey.

  • Hey Oscar! From what I heard, cockatoos orginated from Australia. And Australia is part of the British Commonwealth. So by introducing cockatoos in the U.S., don't you think you're letting the British in instead of kicking them out?

  • But, hey! He's OSCAR! He loves creating senseless noise & chaos.....and driving folks nuts! Aussie/Brit Birds hollering at Brits....weirdness ensues!

  • Good point, but on the other hand, if the cockatoos really did make all that noise, the British might wonder it was really such a good idea after all.

  • "And......they'll so much noise the British'll WANNA go home!" You can tell even he knows that's lame. XD

  • OMG! We watched this in American History Class!!!!!

  • Did you guys learn about the qualifications for President?

  • I think so! Haha!

  • 1. 35 years old (or more)

    2. Residency in the US for 14 years

    3. (most important) Natural born citizenship

  • Yea! I knew all that! YEA ME!

  • I just PM you the definition of natural born, if you haven't followed the fact that Obama has been indicted by grand juries of TREASON.

  • really? what happened!

  • It was successfully sent.

  • poor big bird. :(

  • hey it is like real government :)

  • What year is this from? Who are those five men at 2:41? Who was dressed as Thomas Jefferson? Who was dressed as Benjamin Franklin? When was Thomas Jefferson was born in 1743. Thomas Jefferson was a great man.

  • This can't be earlier than 1985, when Elmo was introduced as a character. Bert played Tom Jefferson and Telly played Ben Franklin.

  • TELLY as Ben Franklin?!

Somehow I can't picture Ernie as the 'obnoxious and disliked' John Adams.

    Herry as John Hancock. :)

Jefferson wanted the dove, not the pidgen.

Who's Oscar supposed to be? John Dickenson doing that on purpose to stall the vote?

'What is a vote?!' and you call yourself a Patriot, Elmo!

  • Well pigeons and doves are pretty close to being the same thing.

  • @mbsjrcc06 According to a photo on page 178 of "Sesame Street: A Celebration - 40 Years of Life on the Street," it was shot on January 27, 1987.

  • "Some bird with a toupee?" LOL

  • bahaha

  • "....and other neat things! Like...government letters!"

That ending with a totally offended Big Bird cracks me up every time I see this.

  • Big Bird seemed totally offended at the end. I believe that he would've been the national bird.

  • He was probably hoping the National Bird would be the Golden Condor, especially since he's one himself.

  • lol. You're right, since gold is related to yellow. Good point.

  • Big Bird is actually a CANARY.

  • It's easy to assume that since he has sometimes been referred to as a canary. But he's really a condor. He told us so when he visited the Neighborhood of Make Believe.

  • @Garrettk41 NO HES A LARK.

  • @TofuPuppets Not according to his appearance on Mr. Rogers.

  • @Garrettk41 Ok fuck the mr fucking rogers appearence. Hes a lark.

  • @Garrettk41 Big Bird said that Oscar is "a little grouchy. He calls me a turkey. I'm not a turkey; I'm a lark."

  • @TofuPuppets What are you talking about? He never said anything of the sort.

  • Not really...

Actualy Big Bird appared on Mr. Rogers once, and said

    "I'm a Yellow Condor"

  • That's what I mean. The Neighborhood of Make Believe is part of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, and Big Bird once visited there and said he was a golden condor. I'd prove it to you only the video isn't availabe anymore.

  • I like how Big Bird was sarcastic when he said, "Thank you very much!"

  • I Wish Sam The Egale Was in this Caltrual Sesame Street Skecth

  • Sesame Street National America Herry Monster Jerry Nelson Telly Monster Martin P.Robinson Bert Frank Oz Elmo Kevin Clash Ernie Jim Henson Oscar The Grouch Big Bird Carroll Spinney 1980s
