  • Love finding these rare clips! IMHO, the Kinks were at their best in the 80's! SOC is my fav kinks album.

  • Ray is an ' everyday guy, that lets you into his world with honesty ' he sings about every day life and hardship, which is what most people relate to. he is also the creator of 'heavy metal' with "you really got me... and one of the first to write a pop art poem...legend!!!

  • The lyric,s flow like water off a ducks back. ray the mad genius

  • Arguing this is better than that is pointless I believe -- that the Kinks are special is a severe understatement. To be a Kinks fan means something!

  • You really got me blew me away in'64,and since then they've always been No.1

for me.I'd like to think they might play together again but I'm not sure they will.

I saw them a good few times and I've got to live on the memories.

  • Is Ray Davies not brilliant? He always just sort of captures the very essence of life in his lyrics, and his melodies.... oh don't get me started.

  • "She couldn't stand the boredom when the video broke down", man, they make me laugh a lot with that one.

  • i dont know if there better than the beatles or stones but they are the most underrated band of all time period. and ray is 1 of the greatest song writers ever his lyrics are so comical and dave is a awesome guitarist

  • Last comment 1 year ago????? Does nobody watch this video??? I was an avid Beatles fan, and discovered the Kinks only last year...in middle age...just saw Ray Davies in concert in Liverpool (fantastic!) and next day went to the Beatles museum. I am a late convert, but I, too, love the Kinks more than the Beatles!

  • No matter how loud or angry the Kinks got with their sound, there is still an underlying sweetness in just about every song. I wouldn't say that about rap. I wouldn't even say that about their more comparable peers the Stones.

  • Since I ran out of space on the last comment, there's no wrong answer.

  • Did you see that? Ray catched something in the air, anyway i love Dave's guitar solo. I woud like to see more of Dave's performances, all videos are focuses on Ray, what an injustice.

  • A Beetlejuice blazer, a green tie, and a mullet, who else could make that combo work?

  • nobody would accuse dave of being a shredder or virtuoso but i love the tone and the raw playing...saw the kinks about 10 times and it was always a treat hearing that tone coming off the stage and hoping he would do something cool....never dissapointed

  • @jasaggio

Dave is a highly underrated guitarist. If you want to see some shredding, watch the live version of Phobia if it's still on YouTube. What you have to understand about The Kinks is that unlike many of their contemporaries, long drawn out guitar solos (noodling) took a backseat to Ry's lyrics and the songs themselves. Listen to the live versions of Celluloid Heroes or Superman on One For The Road or I'm Not Like Everybody else from The Bone. Dave tears it up pretty good.

  • KinKs all through their career my # one band of all time...god save the kinks, Ray and Dave, and all their fans who have supported them through the years! and for all we know they still might have a way to go. dan the fan, aka Frank Lima, The Montvale, New Jersey Hillbilly Boy!

  • I expect nobody read this because I don´t if it's legal to say it: I love The Kinks more than The Beatles.

  • One thing is for sure: a debate about that would take an eternity and would never produce a definitive answer. I know I don't...

  • @Ze18613 On the contrary, it's very quick and easy: The Kinks are way better. Period.

  • Expect a visit from your local law-enforcement agency tomorrow...OK, sarcasm aside, they're both good. Seems to me that the Beatles had 3 members who could and did front their own bands with some success after they broke up and that the Kinks were all Ray. His biting satire is comparable to Lennon, but the Beatles also had McCartney and Harrison. Bottom line is that the Beatles had 3 gifted songwriters and the Kinks had 1. It's an apples and oranges thing, do you prefer apples or oranges?

  • Thanks for explaining. Maybe the emotion when I found this video drove me to say what I've said. The Beatles are really great, but there's something about The Kinks that makes me feel like friend of them. This can sound a little stupid, I know.

  • Hey, it's OK to like the Kinks more than the Beatles. I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise. I like them both.

  • Actually all four of The Beatles fronted successful bands after The Beatles broke up. A lot of people forget that back in 1970, it was Ringo who had the most successful solo career initially. All of his early solo singles were a big hit. And his All Starr Band tours have been consistently successful over the course of the last couple decades or whatever it's been that he's been doing them.

  • @rodrigoraulsuarez You're absolutely right !!!! I do love The Kinks more too, no doubt about that. It really makes me angry to see that it's like a blasphemy to say we like a band more than "Their Highnesses The Fab Four"... WTF ??????

  • @LongLiveRock87 Haha, thank you, man.

  • @rodrigoraulsuarez

For me it's KINKS-BEATLES-STONES in that order !!

  • @rodrigoraulsuarez GODDAMN YOUR RIGHT !!!!!

  • @rodrigoraulsuarez

they were around much longer and produced records that were less noticed, or celebrated- but i think history will catch up with the Kinks- of all the "british invasion" bands, you have the fan vanguard (beatles), the blues glimmer (the stones) and the anthem rockers (the who). The Kinks were unique throughout as they could do all those things, and much more, and true music fans will respect this going forward.....
