  • One thing I didn't like about this review is that Matthew doesn't realize 'stock' war characters, moments etc is actually a authentic to experiences that infantrymen go through. There are always men dragged back into service from retirement, young kids who are killed, the soldier who wrote a letter to his wife. Things like this actually happen in combat and we see it in films again and again because it is true to reality. This film of 'nothing' actually pleased a lot of people.

  • Every action scene is the exact same one

  • I started watching it in starz but it got boring and I stopped watching it, I couldn't understand what was happening, and I thought it was because I was not able to concentrate but now I realize that it was the movie itself.

  • @BlackMisterio Yeah I was laughing pretty hard but it just got boring as hell

  • @BlackMisterio That's ridiculous, there is never any moment in the film where it is unclear what is going on, there are flaws with it, but what you describe isn't one of them.

  • Hell, even Killzone 3 had better a better story and better characters than Battle Los Angeles!

  • Lmaooo!!! I can't breathe!!

  • At least it was better then "Skyline."

  • I felt like I lost brain cells sitting in the theater

  • Totally agree. This movie sucked

  • personaly i never understood what they where trying to acheave with this film the action its good yea but the script and plot was soo generic and boring, when i came out of the cinema every body was like ''oh marines are superheroes perfect humans'' ''ohh im gona join the marines to be a hero'' ''oh i whant to be a marine to kick some Irak people asses'' ''im gona be a marine just like in call of duty'', the movie was suposed to be a sci fi alien invation film not a marines tribute film.

  • @LatinoBadass and the reason y i review the military fan boy obsetion its cus they focused too much on the ''suport the troops'' element and less about making a good SCI FI movie with a good plot and character and story development, i mean for a stardar war film like black hawk down or unanimus soldier its natural and good to have such concept on it....but on a SCI FI FILM?

  • This was a rip off of War of the Worlds, the original Mini-series V, Independance Day. Hells bells just about any; "they've come to kill us all" sci fic movie that's ever been made. Simply put there was nothing original about this concept, at ALL. I agree I've played video games that have more of a plot than this patchwork piece of garbage. I know original alien invasion sci fic is hard to write these days but if u have to rip off so many sources it's time to find a new script idea.

  • I'm confused:

1:08 "This made Skyline look good."

2:32 "...as I said, this was better than Skyline..."

2:35 "Skyline was piss awful, but at least Skyline was stupid. This was just nothing."

6:31 "This is the worst movie of its kind that I have ever seen."

So, was which was better, this or Skyline???

  • @mymindtoyourmind correction, 6:21 "This is the worst movie of its kind that I have ever seen."...:)

  • i loved Sky Linebuy yah this movie sucked

  • I was dissapoointed when I watched this last night. IT SUCKED ASS!

    I fell asleep!

And I agree, there is no storyline!

  • they are Marines and the "lines" are wat they say in real life and i did remember the characters the movie

  • Three films I can honestly say I've fallen asleep during, this is one of them. I'm sorry you had to watch this Matthew.

  • i have to ask and i really would like to know but is this movie about nothing more then no country for old men....

  • @thewewguy8t88 how can something be more or less nothing?

  • @255ad well the question is how can a movie be nothing lol.

  • @thewewguy8t88 by having no point to make

  • i liked the movie call me stupid but i liked it.

  • @SkittleE275 OK stupid

  • @255ad ass!

  • @SkittleE275 stupid ass

  • @255ad stupid dumb sh*ty ass!

  • @SkittleE275

    stupid dumb sh*ty ass cunt

  • Personally, I thought this movie was pure shit. Bored out of my fricking mind.

  • That would have made such an awesome quote on the DVD box:

“There is absolutely no plot or context to this movie.” - ConfusedMatthew

  • I agree that the movie didn't need aliens, but this movie is supose to show what soldiers have to go through in the front lines.

  • they should have just made BATTLE IN IRAQ instead and done the same thing...this movie was SHIT....at least in independance day you hear from the aliens quickly... omg...shoot fire...captain...staff seargent....cry...people die...shoot....we have to be strong soldiers......yaaa..fight...humans rule... GAY GAY GAY

  • battle of los angeles is the movie for the game battle of los angeles. real action videogame with cutscenes, different levels, an endboss and even the fog in the background to limit the visablity distance lol

  • @BringBackMy90s do even play any of the games on PS3?

  • I think all new movies are bad (movies look like PS3 games, crappy CGI, shaky camera, sterile graphics, no characters, no story, 16:9).

    Only the '90s rule.

  • @BringBackMy9Os Look like PS3 games? Are you fucking high?

  • @ShadowGunner82

who cares about PS3, it wasn't the point.

  • I've seen The Battle of Los Angeles

    It was the syfy knockoff

At least this one has special effects that look decent

  • A movies about aliens coming to earth to steal water? Are people in Hollywood that fucking stupid? There is plenty of easily accessible water in space! Comets, Europa, Enceladus, etc. Water one of the most abundant chemicals in the universe!

How is it so hard to come up with motivations for invading aliens? They see a nice planet, they want to colonize it but first they have to get rid of the vermin. It is that easy.

  • my dad rented this on Direct tv Dad thought it was okay I thought is was god awful.

  • Skyline was good, IMO. Waaay better than Armageddon.

  • the point of this film it to make you acknoledge america as the most powerful country, laughable, im glad i dont have to watch movies like this

  • @SaucisseMerguez tv, movie, cinema, news ... brainwash (?) :)

  • @8DeaD7 would you even doubt it ? in france were not nearly as submitted to media as american citizens but still i feel sorry for them

  • @SaucisseMerguez We could be MILLIONS of times more advanced by now, if there wasn't secretism, lies, wars, etc. The real potential of the humanity is being slowed down by them. The secret rulers of the world. But now they are being discovered.

  • Are you gonna talk about the new star wars alterations ?

  • Hey Matthew, have you seen Apollo 18 yet?

  • Totaly agree, GREAT REVIEW!!! (But i still think that skyline was worst)

  • @giannhszomp I agree This was crap but skyline was just shit

  • Lol, I liked this movie, I have it on DVD. I still like your reviews thoughh.

  • I like this movie, because it was the first time in a long time where seeing a movie COMPLETELY destroyed my suspension of disbelief - I finally was able to riff on a movie without having to think about it, everything was so blatantly stupid that I immediately noticed every little flaw.

It was the first time since Pulp Fiction, but that film failed to keep me entertained, because the film keeps between boring and offensively bad, whereas B:LA was just awesomely bad (to me).

  • I think it's funny that the pic you used is one from the video game version of this

  • the movie wasn't that bad.

  • All Hale Visari lol.

  • I was wondering--if you haven't already--if you'd review '13 assassins' i just watched it and i'm actually curious on what you'd have to say on it. I've watched your reviews pretty avidly and it seems like a movie you'd enjoy, hopefully it would make up for this crap movie hahaha.

  • I am so sorry you watched this while sick ;.;

  • I saw it in the theater, enjoyed the popcorn and the movie. But then again, I'm not a hypercritical jackass who expects every trip to the box office to produce an academy award winning experience. I even enjoyed 2012, which was hilarious, one of those movies that's so bad it's good.

  • I feel your pain matthew....I went to the cinema to watch this (payed for my dad and brothers tickets and sweets everything). I went in there expecting to see an alien movie and what i got was constabnly tea-bagged my marine propaganda....i hated this movie the aliens were nothing more then a back drop and coulda been replaced my al qaeda etc...the trailers for this mislead me (and alotta other people im sure) and conned me outta my money...i have so much to say that i wish i could review it >:(

  • "This made Skyline look good"....WRONG!!!

  • Comment removed

  • yes, this was shit. I had the same thoughts as you Matthew, while IN THE THEATRE. Boooring

  • is it worse then cloverfield?

  • Dude, you should do a video game review of Uncharted 1 and 2... just saying! Love your work, by the way! We don't always agree, but I respect you! Hope you get well soon!

  • LOL I just watched this movie last night with my dad. I gave up on it in a half hour, but my dad watched the whole thing and said it was great. I... don't know why, however.

You play playstation 3 games, too, Matthew? Hey, have you ever played Red Dead Redemption or Dragon Age? Those are two of my favorite games. : )

  • @MusicOfLYNN I am with your dad on this one then :)

  • Should have rented Red State instead.

  • Thank god someone apologized for me having to endure this film. Thank you Confused Mathew

  • This made SKYLINE look good? HOly shit!

  • While i watched this movie in a theatre on a big screen, it was very entertaining and action packed. I wouldn't ever consider seeing it again though, There wasn't really any storyline and the whole point of the movie (IMO) Is to just be action packed.

  • One of my friends told me that this was the best films he ever watched lol

  • I did a video about this. The action scenes are a mess, and the characters made me mad becauuse they are so by the numbers. While I like the idea of doing an alien movie from the perspective of the military, you need to have real ppl at the center of it, and the script SUCKED!

Why could they not lose LA? Michelle Rodriguize's rank doesn't exist! The 1st ten minutes has them all boozing it up.

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFAIL!

  • wat games?

  • I watched this some months ago. I had just pulled an allnighter to finish my semester finals. Afterwards, with a great sense of relief, my friends and I decided to watch a movie and we landed on this. The great feeling of freedom, that I had prior to watching it, vanished completely and was replaced by a "Oh God, make it stop, I'm so tired and this is so boring" kind of feeling. Banging my head against a pole for 2 hours had been a better way to celebrate the end of my semester!

  • matt you reviews are getting more hateful and to me pans maze and moulon whorehouse sucked

  • i liked it though its more real to life when fighting a war against an unknown enemy matthew

  • @rsa1027 I'm fairly sure the guys in Afghanistan know exactly who their fighting....as did the guys in Vietnam....as did the guys in world war 1....and 2

  • @255ad dont study history do you or learn about the military all they mostly get is a general idea of who they are fighting

  • @rsa1027 in all the wars I mentioned they new who the enemy was before they joined up...... mostly I think

  • @255ad ask any vietnam vet if they truly knew who the enemy was and why they were fighting them go ahead find one ohh yea my father was one he barely knew and back in those days joining up really wasnt a choice the draft was still in effect either join and hope to be dismissed or commit treason to your country

  • @rsa1027 he knew he was fighting Communist forces in North Vietnam, not just alien space crafts out of no where

did you really get charged with treason if you dodged the draft, that seems a bit harsh?

  • @255ad he didnt know shit he to this day he only knew after he got back who they were and yes you did were arrested and charged with treason unless you had a good lawyer

  • @rsa1027 well that to me sounds like your farther's own damn fault for not picking up a news paper

doesn't treason carry the death penalty in america?

  • @255ad well when he was training in the marine corps all they told him are these people wanna leave if they have a weapon if they refuse to give it up they die, secondly it depended what state you were in a what judge you recieved but some of the time yes it did warrent death penalty or life in prison

  • @255ad now this is the last im going to speak on this subject cause your starting to annoy and piss me off

  • While I thought Battle: LA wasn't a great film, I didn't think it was as bad as Matthew here spazzes about. In fact, I was glad it wasn't like Independence Day or Armageddon or War of the Worlds, where you have one guy that's divorced and has the kid during the disaster, or something like that. I thought it was actually a fresh approach to an alien invasion story.

  • @MaxxTheMerciless Fresh, but bland. It was a unique take, but there were no characters (how many people do yuo remember?), terribly filmed action, non-stop mayhem, pathetic one-liners, and aliens that make NO SENSE!

  • @thegmanofEAP There were plenty of characters. I do remember SSgt. Nantz, 2LT. Martinez, the African guy who was a Navy Corpsman, the civilians, the Air Force chick, the Marine that had a problem with Nantz over the death of his brother in Iraq, and the Marine Cpl, who suffered PTSD and wanted treatment to get back into the fight. While I admit the action was a bit too much like Blackhawk Down, I thought it did the job. What do you mean the aliens made no sense?

  • @MaxxTheMerciless I mean there motivation was dumb. Not as dumb as "Cowboys and Aliens", but plenty dumb. And the action wasn't like anything! An action scene needs to be orchestrated. A real fire fight is not designed to be entertaining; its a life or death scenario. But in a film, you need to plot things out for the audience to follow. This film did not do that.

  • @thegmanofEAP What do you mean? Nobody knows what the motivation of the aliens were. That was part of the nature of this film. This was meant more to follow an alien invasion scenario from a ground-eye view, so to speak. While I agree I don't think this was great filmmaking, it worked.

One of the things I liked was how you heard comments from the news about what the aliens goals and such were. Mere hours after contact and these clowns know all this? cont....

  • @thegmanofEAP See, I tend to think that a lot of the animosity toward this film is from a lot of preconceptions of what people think the aliens would be like. We really don't know a whole lot about the aliens in this film because we're really not meant to. Given my own personal military experience, I thought what we saw was pretty good, and that the aliens may have been a disposable, fabricated race of soldiers given how their weapons were grafted onto them.

  • @MaxxTheMerciless I actually thought the aliens, in their design, were a highlight. It was everything else that I didnt like.

  • @thegmanofEAP Here are my basic observations. This film, as far as I can tell, was trying to be a Blackhawk Down approach to an alien invasion, and in the span of hours we see how people generally react and respond to this situation. Some things, I grant, are a bit hokey, but a lot of it I thought was pretty well done. The characters were more or less believable (except for the Air Force chick). I guess I know how bad this could've been.

  • when i explained what happened in this to a friend immediately after we watched it, i couldn't remember any names. i just said "that guy who.....". also i had a hard time describing what happened because of the lack of it

  • Water is common in the universe why did they come here? Hell we can turn moon rock into water surely the aliens could use that instead of massive costly invasion of a technologically advanced and hostile planet??

  • I went to this movie thinking it would suck. I watched it and thought IWANT AN FPS GAME OF THIS I CAN PLAY. It was pretty shitty plot wise, but the first big fight was cool, untill it happended again and again and again.

  • This movie was good compared to the Asylum-version "Battle of Los Angeles"

  • CM - Aw. If you were going to waste time, you should have watched "The Expendables". There were some very laughable moments, with all of the aweful. You could see how long it takes for Eric Roberts to walk to a helicopter, or hear some *really* weird dialogue.

  • This movie was more about the characters than the aliens. This story had drama and heart. You sir are a miserable hateful asshole. Fuck you and go back to therapy you pathetic little bitch. Unsubscribing.

  • @flaglerbob how polite :-O

  • I saw this movie a while ago and totally agree with you 100%!

  • I thought this movie was funny. After I watched it, I realized didn't know a single Character's name. XD

  • The guy who gave toy story 3 a bad review Armound White liked this film :)

  • I Completly Agree!!

  • THANK YOU! DEAR GOD THANK YOU!!

You said exactly what I thought after watching 5 minutes of that shitstain of a film!

  • Oh Damn. I will be staying away from this one then. Sounds like puking will be a more pleasant experience.

The weird thing is Skyline was made by the people who were paid to do the effects for Battle LA. Skyline is the knock-off of this movie, in a way. Hardly worth knocking off, in retrospect.

  • lol, one more reason to throw up ^^

  • God this guy is making a bio flick on Julius Caesar, god help us.

  • A shitty version of the WASP was in this movie lol.

  • Hope you feel better soon. :)

  • I remember that the camera was just flying around like crazy in this movie, like it was trying to find something interesting in the movie and constantly failing. And it kept dwelling on the faces of confused civilians for some reason, which became kind of funny after a while. Also I don't think there was a plot, like literally.

  • God Bless You ConfusedMatthew!!! I absolutely Hate that piece of shit movie with a passion and agree with everything you just said! It is the Worst Movie I've Seen this year and one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life! I can't belive Aaron Eckhart who was Two Face in my Favorite Movie The Dark Knight was the star of this.... sigh oh well all I say is that he is an ups and downs guy and this movie was fucking rock bottom... To quote you from NCFOM Review "FUCK THIS MOVIE!!!"

  • this movie is awesome!!!!!!!!

  • Independence Day, War of the Worlds, Transformers, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Skyline, Battle Los Angeles.... ok so whats next hollywood?

  • @landporpus Have you seen the trailer for Battleship?

  • The epilepsy inducing fast cuts that make Michael Bay's Transformers films seem deliberate and well shot are worth mentioning it.

  • You're looking for a movie to review that everybody seems to love but in fact fucking sucks? RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. You're gonna hate it. It's uninvolving in every sense of the word.

  • nicest review ever

  • yeah, I rented this piece of crap from redbox, but I knew it was going to be bad anyway... just not this bland

  • the aliens want water ? then why are they attacking LA Oo? ATTACK GREENLAND! there is a fucking 3 km ice layer over the whole county !!!

  • Why didn't u rent a movie that actually looks good ? It's easy to tell that this movie is garbage even before watching it...

  • If you want to see a good movie and get that bad taste out of your mouth, Rise of the Planet of the Apes is really great.

  • i actually found the movie ok :)

  • "I'm going to go throw up some more, and now I have just one more reason to" Poor guy.

  • Didn't really care for the movie, but it isn't as bad as Skyline.

  • If this is a screengrab from the movie, it looks like a videogame. And Armageddon is STILL bad, and I don't want to see Skyline.

    Get well soon, Matt :)

  • You forgot, "YOU'RE NOT GONNA DIE ON ME, MAN!"

  • dude whats your PSN name. play some killzone?

  • @angelofmalice0 TomatoSix

  • Do you play Uncharted 2?

  • @xxSleemoxx Yes I do. LOVE that game!

  • @confusedmatthew Yo Matthew, thuoght of general reviewing Super 8 or The Help?

  • @confusedmatthew Hey Matthew, could you please review that surprisingly popular movie, The Help?

  • for about ten years now, i havent paid for a movie.

i watch movies all the time. its called torrent.

  • Bravo matthew! This film is a glorified computer game. Just give me a controler ;)

  • I agree with all points, especially with the introduction to the numerous characters in the beginning, as if we are actually going to remember all the names and they will have in-depth characterization.

  • I bought this on Blu-Ray. Yes I'm very much regretting that.

  • Killzone had Visari, so it wins automatically.

  • @xxSleemoxx AMEN!

  • @xxSleemoxx

If only the devs weren't stupid enough to kill him off.

  • @civilwarfare101 Fuck you Rico! FUCK YOU!

  • @xxSleemoxx

Fuck the devs for actually doing something sooooooooo stupid. Did anyone want Visari to be killed off? Did anyone want to play as the ISA?

  • @civilwarfare101 I didn't I loved that bit where you're disguised as Helghast for a few minutes.

  • @xxSleemoxx

That was kind of cool. The ISA aren't even the good guys. They nuked a goddamn planet and GG supposed to make us believe they're the good guys? They should never write stories again.

  • i liked skyline.could anyone have come up with the ending ?

  • I would have to admit this movie sucked balls.

  • Man, i favour your reviews. Have been following you since 2008.

I often share your point of view as well, which is why i have been listening to you for such a long time. Keep it going! ;D

  • Battle LA is awesome.

  • sadly, I just got this one in from in from net flix

  • I loved Michelle Rodriguez in Resident Evil, and her character's a solid part in the Fast and Furious Movies, but in Avatar, I just don't follow the macho attitude of her. I didn't see this movie, but I hope she did great in it.

  • You can play Battle of Los Angeles .THERE IS a VIDEO GAME!!! :)

  • I kind of like WotW now, although, the biggest problem for me with that movie is that the aliens came here to harvest our blood and organs as a resource, even though the first hour just showed them freeze drying everybody to death and turning them into dust. It's like if guys who wanted help a sick dying friend pay for his surgery, they start robbing banks to come up with the money, but first, they destroy all the money from most of the robberies. One motivation or the other, not both, Steven.

  • excellent review, i hope u continue 2 post ur reviews on youtube

  • It was a terrible movie. Half way through I was cringing and couldn't keep my eyes on the screen at around the halfway mark. Terrible dialogue.

  • *Gasp* Does this mean NCFOM has gone up a notch/blip/iota/centilla, or is it in the same place?

  • I would even say that War of the Worlds (2005) is a better alien invasion film than Battle: LA. At least in War of the Worlds, I got the sense they were trying to show something that hadn't been seen before, or at least show something with a different angle. With Battle: LA, you could have easily made it about a foreign nation invading and you wouldn't have to change much of the movie. I weep for the future of alien invasion movies.

  • @danielinraleigh My thoughts exactly. At least that film was approaching the subject from another angle. Battle: Los Angeles is exactly what I'm talking about with regard to repeating the formula rather than adding anything to it.

  • @confusedmatthew That is the reason i liked this movie. Yea it repeats a formula. its a war movie with aliens. its about the human condition. people just trying to survive and pulling together through all there petty bullshit in order to do something incredible. The aliens are a force that seem like they can not be stopped but through courage and the human spirit man could prevail. and sky line was a piece of shit. its like watching a movie in braille.

  • How'd you like Michelle Rodriguez being typecast as rough and tumble female officer for the millionth time? I get it, you're a female and tough. I can't stand her.

  • @codak29 How many Latino actors in Hollywood (outside of Robert Rodriguez' usual stable) get a steady gig playing something other than gangbangers? She's found a profitable niche for herself; it's producers and casting directors you should ask about typecasting.

  • I hated the ending. Aliens want water? Water is the most abundant compound in the known universe.

  • @codak29 That was speculation by a couple talking heads on a TV news program. We never really learn the aliens' motivation. In a sense, I preferred it--I think I liked not knowing the aliens' motivation better than learning the stupid motivations of aliens in most recent invasion movies (Cowboys & Aliens was just stupid for this).

  • man, i like your reviews but i thought this one was going to be good for you, well you're right in that it had not plot, but i found it really entertaining. Maybe it is cause i like war movies it reminded me of them.

  • rview? I'll let you off as you have been feeling sick
