I have a I7 980X @4.2ghz and 2 GTX 470 @800mhz core , Rampage 3 extreme mb, on a 27 inch. Screen @ 1920 x 1080 , maxed out settings getting about 20 fps more bud..your problem isn't your hardware it's the code the game is written with .. I know my resolution is alot less but I also have half the hardware you have ... Trust me ... The low frame rates are due to the Games ability to use your hardware efficiently ... Awesome Rig tho Bud !!!
Dude 30fps is very playable :/ I used to have to play games like SC2 on low graphics at a steadily deterioration of frames per second, by the end of a game I would be rocking about 3 fps in a 4v4. Luckily I can now play ulti on 100fps +. But seriously I find around 28+ to be where it becomes very much playable
People don't realize that anything over 75 fps is the same to the human eye. You can't physically see the difference between 90 and 150 fps. It isn't physically possible.

Yes you're correct about Human eye only being able to see 30 frames though 60 does make it very fluid and give a lot of breathing room for FPS spikes. :D
i will recommend disamble enhance pointer precision at mouse software and apply cpl mouse fix if want play fps games. also slow down a bit the sensibility or ajust to your preference but definitely help you.

Too be honest m8. I think it isnt your GPu's thats slowing your gameplay it might be the Shared memory in windows. I had issues on 1 of my Crazy builds i had to run benchmarks in Linux to get them accurate. Damn microsoft left out the option to share memory with the ram to the gpu.
@Trubyd44 i was running 3 way sli with my 480gtx, i found it ran worse apart from benchmarks, games ran worse. in the end i sold the 3rd gpu to my bro and went bk to 2 way sli, instantly much better, i was suprised to see id got my performance back. i think it was that id only got 1 cpu, its the 920 @2.8, probably not enough processing power and so i was getting bottleneck. i was told by many that 3way and 4way is a waste of time.
@nissan300bhp I've heard people say this as well...and although everytime you add a card it does cause diminishing returns, I have never seen performance go down. I promise, in all my experience...performance never went down when installing more GPUs. Do you use MSI Afterburner? Sometimes I've found when people experience this, one or more cards don't 'clock up' and they don't realize it unless they can see it in MSI Afterburner.

@playPS3play the evga classified runs 16x 16x in sli mate, and according to the evga website its 16x 16x 16x for 3 way also, for 3 way + phys x its 16x 16x 8x 8x. the reason i found it rubbish is because 1 most games out just dont utilize 3 way sli that good and 2nd my i7 is only a 920@ 2.8ghz. not for long tho, 980 im getting after christmas, but even then im not going to bother with 3 way, just think its a waste of money, in more ways than 1, i.e my elec bill ;-)
@nissan300bhp the more cards you add to you system the more RAM you will need because when you use more then one card it does use all of the graphics card memory so if you are running 1, 2, 3 or even 4 it will still be using the amount of one graphics card. this is from my experience. how much RAM do you have because this guy has 12GB of RAM.

but I just wanted to say that you didn't enable MSAA 4X Anti-Aliasing and I'm assuming you didn't enable PhysX too. Those two options alone literallly HALF your framerate!
I think we're gonna need to wait for 2 more years until this game is totally "tamed" by single GPU video cards.

Your frames improved because you weren't looking at the smoke. Smoke usually rips apart framerates at high resolution, there's not really much you can do about it without turning down the specs.

Crazy rig man! quite amazing :)The only thing that seems to be really demanding in this game are areas with big light coming through like at the beginning of that vid. Thats why the fps are low at the beginning. Outside in that same spot I get around 40s fps with the same settings and 1920x1080p with my gigabyte windforce gtx 580 stock clock, not bad for one card cant wait to SLI it. ! Again awesome rig!

I have a pc with 2 ati 5970's 2gb crossfired. with vsync off i get tearing (like a lot of people) so what do i do? i get about 350 fps 0_o and tearing. when i enable triple buffering in ccc it barely helps. So my monitor is 60hz is that the problem? are the cards producing too many frames for the monitor? I cant play l4d2 with my team wih vsync on because i get horrible mouse lag. would you know how to solve this?
So So...you can play the game at ANY resolution, 10000x by 100000000x, and it won't ever, EVER, look as good as it was supposed to be played. With 3d Vision. Of course you'll play the game at 25fps if you did get 3d vision. I have trouble playing it in 1080p with 25 fps average and a lot of spikes below and high. Play the game it was meant to be played.

Sometimes I've found when OCing that attaining certain higher speeds sometimes isn't as good as hitting the Sweet Spots on Timings. Can sure take a while to find the right combo of FSB-CPU-GPU timings as I'm sure you know because any one of these just a little off can cause FPS issues no matter how much Bare Horse Power and it Looks Like Ya Got Plenty BHP to me (Smiles) NICE!!!
Yeah, i used to say that 60 was ridiculous to complain about when i was still living in sin (using a console) now that i'm a pc gamer, i understand the need for high FPS. However, i consider anything over 50 FPS to be very playable. 40's is sorta playable, and anything less is a little laggy, meaning the game is not truly running in real time, and is therefore unplayable. Maybe it's because you have a 120hz monitor? i have 60 hz so anything > 60 makes no difference
this is one of the best rigs Ive seen !keep up the great reviews I think you do better benchmarks/tests than many reviwers out there theyre real life and extremely detailed not like other reviews where they show graphs and small description about what they made.
even though the 480 are not top of line as before theyre still quite powerfull!!!

Have you tried to see the difference between two GTX 480s in that game versus three or four? I can't imagine that there would be much of a difference because of diminishing returns. Those 6990s will be sick in a new rig.
nVidia gives the developers some extra cash and promises to do a few optimisations on the game. No more. Written for nVidia implies nVidia paid for it and will only run properly on nVidia. No ATI can run this sounds very fanboy. Block me to prove me right.
Videocards can run the GPU up to 90 Celsius. No biggie. Will not do wonders for longevity. 60-70 Celsius is normal for a GPU.

that was back when he made the video mate otherwise he would have used a 580 sli or a 5970 OCled edition w/4gb.
some games run better on NVIDIA like Crysis 2 or hawks not because those gpus are more powerfull but because the software is Nvidia oriented. Crysis warhead would be an exception as it is faster with 5970 than say a 580. Dragon Age 2 runs better on AMD oriented cards. Im not saying this will run better on a 570 than a 6990 but as it is too much difference.

i have 1 480 on water oc to 820 and 2000 with a 1900x1080 reso and my temps run anywhere from high 50's to low 60's. so that looks fine to me. also my set up is open air with mb on top. 2 pieces of 14x14 boards with aluminum angle at the corners.
not trying to be an asshole bro, but didn't they prove that 4x 480's is a waste? as in only meant for vantage scoring? Some reviews either or guru3d or anandtech said that past 3, you lose fps compared to what you could have at three, been shown on quad sli and quadfire, especially on the 580's. Anyways extremely nice setup man, and imo Metro sucks :p its just a bad console port! Put crysis on that and if you have the U3011h, get 2 more and then try across all three with max on Crysis!!
@Fatpandas2014 There are mutliple monitors with that as a native res. They are all IPS panels btw, no shitty TN panels. Look at Dell's U3011H, 3007WFC or HPs zr30. NEC sells them too, but they are way more expensive. Dell's site sells the u3011h for bout 1k - 1.3k, depending upon if they are on sale or not.
I enjoyed watching the build, the customization, and the tests. Beautiful job! Its always fun to watch other people spend the money so I don't have to. I am happy with a few less FPS lol. That kind of money can feed hungry kids in 3rd world countries, or save whales or something.
@4thPlayerFilms He payed well over 2k for this setup, he has every right to. Metro 2033 is a terrible console port and a shitty game at that. Don't complain if your jealous alright, I only have 2 gtx 460's and this guys setup runs circles around mine any time of the day.
i compared the direct x versions and you can barely see the difference but on dx the framerate is improved massively. Also playing the game in russian is beast :D

I think the frames drop around 30 because no VGA nowaday is ready for that resolution, and the ram memories heven't evolved so quickly to match that demanding. It's like runing a 2005 demanding game in 1008p with a 2005 system. I think when most VGAs comes with 2gb ram, and when they releases higher ram memorie clocks playing in that res will be a good deal. Most games run fine in a high end system, but some of them needs more memorie and higher clocks to handle this resolution.
something is definitely wrong, or poorly optimized with your system. Screen resoluation these days are a minor concern with modern cards and not a reason for you to get such low frames with regards to your hardware.
Those gpu temps are low for 480's.

Your frames improved because you weren't looking at the smoke. Smoke usually rips apart framerates at high resolution, there's not really much you can do about it without turning down the specs.

Crazy rig man! quite amazing :)The only thing that seems to be really demanding in this game are areas with big light coming through like at the beginning of that vid. Thats why the fps are low at the beginning. Outside in that same spot I get around 40s fps with the same settings and 1920x1080p with my gigabyte windforce gtx 580 stock clock, not bad for one card cant wait to SLI it. ! Again awesome rig!

So So...you can play the game at ANY resolution, 10000x by 100000000x, and it won't ever, EVER, look as good as it was supposed to be played. With 3d Vision. Of course you'll play the game at 25fps if you did get 3d vision. I have trouble playing it in 1080p with 25 fps average and a lot of spikes below and high. Play the game it was meant to be played.

Just wanted to throw food for thought & experiment.
Sometimes I've found when OCing that attaining certain higher speeds sometimes isn't as good as hitting the Sweet Spots on Timings. Can sure take a while to find the right combo of FSB-CPU-GPU timings as I'm sure you know because any one of these just a little off can cause FPS issues no matter how much Bare Horse Power and it Looks Like Ya Got Plenty BHP to me (Smiles) NICE!!!

Yeah, i used to say that 60 was ridiculous to complain about when i was still living in sin (using a console) now that i'm a pc gamer, i understand the need for high FPS. However, i consider anything over 50 FPS to be very playable. 40's is sorta playable, and anything less is a little laggy, meaning the game is not truly running in real time, and is therefore unplayable. Maybe it's because you have a 120hz monitor? i have 60 hz so anything > 60 makes no difference

this is one of the best rigs Ive seen !keep up the great reviews I think you do better benchmarks/tests than many reviwers out there theyre real life and extremely detailed not like other reviews where they show graphs and small description about what they made.
even though the 480 are not top of line as before theyre still quite powerfull!!!

Have you tried to see the difference between two GTX 480s in that game versus three or four? I can't imagine that there would be much of a difference because of diminishing returns. Those 6990s will be sick in a new rig.

Videocards can run the GPU up to 90 Celsius. No biggie. Will not do wonders for longevity. 60-70 Celsius is normal for a GPU.

that was back when he made the video mate otherwise he would have used a 580 sli or a 5970 OCled edition w/4gb.
some games run better on NVIDIA like Crysis 2 or hawks not because those gpus are more powerfull but because the software is Nvidia oriented. Crysis warhead would be an exception as it is faster with 5970 than say a 580. Dragon Age 2 runs better on AMD oriented cards. Im not saying this will run better on a 570 than a 6990 but as it is too much difference.

i have 1 480 on water oc to 820 and 2000 with a 1900x1080 reso and my temps run anywhere from high 50's to low 60's. so that looks fine to me. also my set up is open air with mb on top. 2 pieces of 14x14 boards with aluminum angle at the corners.

not trying to be an asshole bro, but didn't they prove that 4x 480's is a waste? as in only meant for vantage scoring? Some reviews either or guru3d or anandtech said that past 3, you lose fps compared to what you could have at three, been shown on quad sli and quadfire, especially on the 580's. Anyways extremely nice setup man, and imo Metro sucks :p its just a bad console port! Put crysis on that and if you have the U3011h, get 2 more and then try across all three with max on Crysis!!

@Fatpandas2014 There are mutliple monitors with that as a native res. They are all IPS panels btw, no shitty TN panels. Look at Dell's U3011H, 3007WFC or HPs zr30. NEC sells them too, but they are way more expensive. Dell's site sells the u3011h for bout 1k - 1.3k, depending upon if they are on sale or not.

I think the frames drop around 30 because no VGA nowaday is ready for that resolution, and the ram memories heven't evolved so quickly to match that demanding. It's like runing a 2005 demanding game in 1008p with a 2005 system. I think when most VGAs comes with 2gb ram, and when they releases higher ram memorie clocks playing in that res will be a good deal. Most games run fine in a high end system, but some of them needs more memorie and higher clocks to handle this resolution.

something is definitely wrong, or poorly optimized with your system. Screen resoluation these days are a minor concern with modern cards and not a reason for you to get such low frames with regards to your hardware.
