That's the whole thing, I'm sure. You wouldn't use a mattress over there: you'd have to sleep on a futon you would put away every morning. You'd have to be an uber clean minimalist, just for the sake of being able to walk 2 feet when you're in there.
Honestly, I'm not surprised. Hasn't anyone here heard of capsule hotels? You have rows of plastic coffin sized boxes in the walls and each box is a "room."
To be honest I would not mind living in there its easy to clean you can't lose anything in there just set up a small cot every night and in the morning roll it up and store it in a corner
@Redmondkid91 hmm, I don't know. I'm fine with small living spaces but this is really pushing it. is there even room to sleep without folding yourself around a corner? there certainly doesn't appear to be room for any kind of mattress.
I also wonder, do you hear neighbors on both sides of you, just a few feet away?
I guess you can survive in a place like this if you only sleep there and spend all your time out, but for that price it's insane. 50k yen is $650 now! that rents a HOUSE where I am
I want to go to Japan but I am afraid it will be way to expensive. 1 dollar=81 yen. If I go for two weeks it may cost me 4000 dollars including airfare. Anyone have any suggestions.
@MrJim12341121 yeah, it's unbelievable how much the dollar to yen rate has changed. When I first considered visiting Japan (and sadly didn't take that chance) in 2003, a dollar was around 120 yen. Now a dollar is worth 76 yen... that means everything is 57% more expensive! The way exchange rates can fluctuate is just crazy...
I suppose this is nice for English teachers in Japan though. Before you'd be earning about $29,000 and now it's $42,000.
I watched a few Japanese apartment tour videos here on Youtube and really like the minimalism of them, but this one is definitely unhabitable. You can barely roll out the futon and have to live without clothes and possessions, because there's no room to store them.
wow. I pay a little over double that for my apartment in Shinjuku Tokyo but I still only have enough room for a chair and a tv. Plus my bathroom is separate then my shower [u know u are living it bad when u have the toilet and shower together in Japan] >.< Lol. But wow, 510 a month? Pretty good for a roof over ur head.
Tokyo is expensive.I live in Recife, Brazil. With 250 dollars month you can rent a very big apartment. That's is what a I pay. My apartament has 3 dorm rooms and and all of them (even the smalest) are bigger than that. But, of course, my city is as cool as Tokyo... In fact Brazil is piece of s... LOL.
that place is soo damn small...I could flush the apartment down my bathroom toilet

Doesn't even have a restroom of any sort. I wouldn't give up living in a car for that. :l I could do a lot in a year with $500.

This reminds me of apartments for rent on Wall Street. You pay $700 a month to live in a closet.

Now that I watch this again, is it really the whole apartment? That might just be the kitchen and the living/bedroom isn't shown.
