Cool. I helped my friend tune the Heinz Chapel Organ a couple of times while I stayed with him in Pittsburgh. I also helped him out in the chamber and got a look in there. It is indeed a beautiful organ. My friend plays at Third Presbyterian Church on 5th & S. Negley. Also, you play very well. :-)
I'm a little large to be crawling around inside this organ - those chambers are packed tight - but I did once or twice - just to get to the spiral staircase that goes into the attic. I've always said that Heinz Chapel is one of the finest marriages of instrument to room I've ever heard. You'd never know it at the console, but once you get out past that first pillar of the transept, it's a different organ. Beautiful is right!
The tape was very poor but the piece you were playing for so lovely, I've never heard it, please please tell me the name of the piece and its composers name. Please try a good tape and redo your video. Thanks
It's an excerpt of the organ part from a setting of Psalm 91 by John W. Becker, founding director of the Pittsburgh Compline Choir, which I used to sing for.
I've moved away from Pittsburgh, so I don't get to practice on this beauty anymore, alas... However, I hope to soon post some footage of the great organs that exist here in my new home!
That place is taller than it is long. Your playing is wonderful and I wish the video was longer. The organ I play has a pedal posaune and I blast it now & then. Keep up the good werk.
It's a beautiful organ - you're hearing five ranks in the manual - the swell Viole d'Gambe + Celeste, the choir Dolcan + Celeste, both coupled to the great, and the great Harmonic Flute is on...towards the end, I slightly tapped the swell shoe and added the swell superoctave to great...
The pedal had Bourdons at 16 and 8 as well as a 16' string, with the swell and choir coupled.
WOW amazing and beautiful soft tones...stunning you play well

The organ has a silken quality which is very attractive, using this sweet registration. I hope we get to hear more.
