Jesus would be more fitting, however, Moroni represent the restoration of the Gospel of Christ. You see, Moroni faces EAST where Christ were born. Also facing to a sunrise, a dawn of restoration and so on.
I love the D.C. Temple. I served my mission in DC, and I could tell you many stories of how just looking at this temple has helped to bring many unto Jesus Christ and the waters of baptism!
The imposing and even majestic nature of temples and palaces often makes an impression on people both friend and foe. It's human nature, common the world over, nothing other worldy about this phenomenon. If you were born in India you'd probably say the Taj Mahal brought you closer to Hinduism.
This is my favorite temple! I'm from Virginia, and this was my temple when I lived there. I remember the feeling I used to get every time I saw the spires from the Beltway. It's a breathtaking view from there. I also remember how I used to love just sitting on a bench across from the Christus statue with the galaxies background. I could have stayed there for hours, in the Visitors Center. That is one thing I've missed with the smaller temples, such as the Memphis Temple: No Visitors Centers.
My home Temple, I LOVE it!! An interesting fact I thought people like might to know is that the Angel Moroni on top of the Temple is actually holding the Gold Plates!! It's one of only like 5 Temples to have such!! I actually have a picture of it, I took a picture of the Angel Moroni and after I heard this I looked at it and compared it to the Rexburg Temple and it's very clear!!! (My roommate had to do a "magazine" on Temples and found this out!! :P) Gotta love BYU-I!!
I like how you do your intro... the Google Earth zoom-in. Excellent style.

my opinion is that this temple is ONE of the most beautiful. Especially at night when you are driving on the belt loop.
