Kinda sounds like some kind of "downtime" theme for Space 1999 or something. I can see Commander Koenig and Dr. Russell waxing nostalgic over some bit of scientifc/sociological minutae and then a long pan out to show moonbase Alpha drifting on the back of the moon toward some unknown destination.
