How come she was never heard of when she was alive?? Why is it like that? I'm alive and never been discovered. It's always when it's too late. Not right.
I am 59 years old. Discovered Eva a few months ago via CD. Then saw the Over the Rainbow post here, and cry every time I watch. What an achingly beautiful voice and poignant guitar rendition, and what a heartbreaking story. What a blessing to have her voice go on.
It Amazes me that Eva will never know how much of a legend she is or how famous she is. It kind of kills me in a way because its everything she ever wanted and she will never see it.
I just read an article to day in a Dutch weekly magazine about Eva Cassidy and I was curious, what more can I say that her songs bring tears in my eyes and opens my heart. What a voice and what a kindness
There's an Eva Cassidy playlist on my channel. She was the greatest ever. There's finally another young lady who I think may end up being her equal! Check out my channel to see.
I came across this quite by accident. What a wonderful voice, I'm just sorry I am now hearing instead of when she was alive. I would have became a groupie.
i heard a cool voiced angel smooth as silk, fine comes on like summer wine..gone? sweet rain never fades forever but returns and soothes the distorted and twisted cords of the heart balm for the wounded they say she was like a star that fell and no one saw it like a sweet rain meteor passing unknown in the night cause the circus was in town and no one cared about the sky ah my gorgeous girl they are hearing you now listen, and heard the applause sounds like rain just like you did sweet summer rain
Thank you so much for posting the special on Eva. I think it originally aired in 1999 or 2000. I missed it back then, missed the rerun a few months afterwards and continously look for it. My mom first saw it and told me about how amazing she was. I've been a fan ever since!
i have just discovered this pure gem that was Eva Cassidy. I first listened to her sing Imagine and it took my breath away. Never would I have thought that anyone could sing that song so beautifully. Then i heard somewhere over the rainbow. Words cannot describe how completely stunned I am. She was pure, raw and real talent, and the fact she passed away at such a young age is a tragedy. I just wish more of the world got to hear her voice. She is completely astonishing
Thank you for this. In my lifetime I have never loved and cherished another voice as much as Eva's. A gift she was; an absolute gift we should all treasure.
What a great tribute to a voice that left us way too soon ... like many others, I only recently came to hear Eva's music and have been captivated ever since ... thx Hengehugger for posting
we are gifted with pearls every moment of our life, for many the distractions are greater than the gifts. To share our gift whether in 33 years or 99 years is our abundance. We the people of the world can get along and share our love. For the leaders and manipulators of our world please leave us in peace, leave our planet of inspiration, move to the moon instead of provoking wars, then we will not be eating your toxic path. We will be left with the flowers of love brought by such artists as Eva
Her music, her style, her soul, her spirit will forever be in our hearts. Her voice is still heard long after I have listened..... as it will with most of us.... God bless her for leaving us with the melody of her soul.
I have to thank close friends Markus & Siobhan for introducing me to the wonders of one of the most majestic voice you'll ever, ever hear! Simply astonishing.
Wow! My faith is restored. The cream always does rise to the top. Some things are just so inevitable that even death can not stand in the way. Beautiful story. Heavenly singing.
Her offering of integrity, talent, and beauty seems inordinately and exceedingly special these days. Hearing a songbird like this is- and forgive the cliche comparison- like the sighting an endangered species; rare, special, magical. Often- as was the case of Eva Cassidy- creatures of such significance see us far more often than we see them. A songbird indeed, her gift of authentcity and grace is all too rare.
I never knew about Eva Cassiday until this NightLine special aired. That she was never recognized in this country for her special gifts tells everyone a lot about the sorry state of affairs relative to the music world and what passes for music. She could sing, unlike most of today's artist. The British are so far ahead of us when it comes to music. Charles Brown the Washington D.C. go go singer was a good friend of Eva's and instrumental in her life.
Thank you for posting this! I discovered Eva in 2001, when my dad was undergoing chemo. I stumbled upon Songbird in a music store, I just fell in LOVE with it. I began to research my new found love of Eva and her music, "who is this Songbird?" I had asked myself, to then find out that she had past away at age 33 of cancer, made me realize it was meant for me to find her at that time in my life. Thank you Eva and RIP.
Proud to say that I was one of the Brit's who recognised this wonderful talent. I even managed to get a tape of her from a friend in USA. She truely was our Songbird.
That's one more thing that we Americans have to be thankful to you Brits for. You guys really heard her while not many of us in this country did at the time. So, thank you. - Zen Doc
I rarely watch Nightline, so my Angels may have been telling me to watch. I fell in love with her voice, her emotion, her tenderness, and bemoaned her terribly tragic story. I bawled like a baby, then I went out and bought every Eva CD I could find (3 at the time - now 8). That was 6 years ago and she is still my favorite recording artist of all time. I still well up with tears while I sing along or just listen to Eva. I am so thankful that she has been able to touch my life. -ZenDoc
Eva is so special - such a treasure. I, and a lot of people have Nightline and Dave Maresh in particular to thank for bringing her story to the American public. I saw the replay, which they said was the only time on Nightline ever where they had rebroadcast a previous show. They said that the demand was just so great that they decided to break with their tradition. I'm really glad that they did. I missed the original airing but just happened to have ABC on when they decided to air it again.
OMG. I'm an old rockdog, yet everytime I hear Eva, I tear up, like some teenage girl. Wish she was still around, so I could differenciate her work from her legend. Having said that, Eva is one person I'd like to meet on the other side - Just to let her know how appreciated she is now.
The only thing I don't like about this broadcast is the fact that they didn't mention that she died from Melanoma, the #1 cancer killer of YOUNG adults like Eva. Unfortunately, most people think skin cancer can't kill you. We need to get the word out, becuase it is a preventable cancer, but NOT a treatable one. Eva is one of my heroes, not only musically, but because she and I share the same cancer. I can't wait to sing with her in heaven.
Everytime I listen to her, her voice really moves me every time. Beautiful. If the Idol shows (American, Pop, etc.) existing at time she was still alive and she got one it, she would shot to the front!
The purity of that voice ...even now, tears well up. I heard it from the side of Fleetwood's stage. Reality: Too often most of the clients had little idea of what they might have been able to experience through that voice, and so just chatted away. The club didn't ask them not to, THEY SHOULD HAVE! Once, before a solo song, I watched Mic go on stage behind and put his fingers to his lips(shussing them) to do it.
I listened, yet again, and with each hearing the sensation of something in that "heavenly" voice that imparts the potential within the human spirit to reflect all that is beautiful in life. As the ABC report reveals, in the years since her death, hearing this voice has been a spiritual experience for MANY people. P.S. Mic stood behind her, she was seated and never saw what he did.
Thank you for this post. I am one of the lucky few who saw her live and this segment is spot on -- I lived in DC and saw her twice; once after her cancer diagnosis w/ her mom sitting at the next table. Soaring voice, terribly shy - I count my lucky stars that I got to experience this special talent. Godspeed Eva.
Thank you for posting this video. Just bought her albums from Amazon & her DVD [available only in the non-US format from ebay. Thanks again. Joe [USA]
