He makes this look WAY TOO EASY. It took me hours just to memorize and get through the first part of this level without dying. And holy shit...that boss is really difficult. This guy is amazing.
That Faith track from the Ikaruga OST is just so damn fucking good and awesome, especially after 1:20. I still suck, using up all my continues here and am still used to Touhou gameplay ...
Really nice video, even considering it is from 2005, from YouTube's child days!
It's just like any other game...practice and you'll get better. I remember the first time I played level 3, I had a game over in about 20 secs. After a few hours of toying around with it, I could beat the entire level. Then you start working on chains and you'll, again, get better with practice.
Yeah, way to go on making this look fucking easy.....ugh....this game is one of those love-hate relationships. But yet I found myself not nerd-raging and throwing my controller. I think it's one of those satisfying things where games aren't like this anymore. (I just bought this game a couple days ago)
@GOTLANDSKORV Because when you are red/black you absorb red/black attacks same goes for when you are white/blue and when you absorb enough you can fire that absorbed energy as the missle attack.
@test18258 I know that, I have played the game... It's just that at 0:21 the Ikaruga was blue and still didn't get hit by the red bullets. musli4brekkies already explained why the bullets didn't hit though; "they have to hit like right in the middle of the ship to kill you."
I got this on an emulator (dont flame me because everyone knows how expensive and rare this game is) and I can't pass this stage cause at the start of the level some enemies are invisible, in other words there are missing textures :P anyone knows how to fix that? I'm using Dolphin
@Ladomendigo Not criticizing you but you can get the full game for the xbox live arcade for only 800 microsoft points ( $10), but I do understand if you don't have an Xbox 360.
Does anyone know what the names of all the enemies are in this game? And which if any are throwbacks to radiant silvergun? (i've played ikaruga but only watched videos of rad silver)
My personal favourite - as its so ridiculously challenging but yet addictive, feasible and entertaining. The shield technique deceptively makes you feel like its more possible than other bullet hell shumps in that you feel more in control. The chaining, enemy polarity and fire feedback on destruction also creates a beautiful puzzle-like strategy element on top. There is literally nothing to fault (may be things that could be improved or included) about this game, performance is in hands of user
That was the most magnificent game playing I've seen in I don't even know how long. (Well, after seeing the Chapter 1 video)
This is my favorite stage in the game, but when you see someone playing through it the way it was meant to be done, it sends chills through the body with excitement.
The music for this level is freakin awesome. And this level is freakin hard. That giant hoola hoop you have to fight at the end made me cry too. And yes its ok to cry shadow.
Only on youtube do ikaruga video's turn into a debate about which culture is superior. Get over it assholes your wormfood when your out...the Clock is ticks
During the 2:07 mark when the ships are colliding into each other, I found an opening where you can simply sit still and you won't get hit. Where's the fun in that though? XD
Wow, I should use this on my playing style. I always go for the opposite color for quick kills, but I see that this guy's primary goal is to get his super meter maxed out. I don't think I'm fast enough for that, I can't even beat Stage 2 ^_^.
Every country is different and not very understandable. If one person goes to America and the other goes to Japan. They would likely not understand the culture of those country, but that doesn't mean its right or wrong, true or not true. You have to experience everything and learn what you can to understand. Not all gamers are good and several others are, thats why they experience or learn it from their mistake.
No, his ship never hit any of the bad guys. You can still die if you crash into a same-colored ship, trust me I've done it far too many times. Around 2:05-2:10 or so, you can see him zig-zagging between black ships and not dying.
That was pretty sick, I've beaten that boss but it took me like 3 lives and almost all the time limit on easy for me, but I've learned some tactics from this video. Awesome job.
@tonitoninomi Only once in my entire life have I come near this. I made it through Chapter 1-3 without dying ONCE and I get the boss down to like... near-death and he fucking kills me. I almost cried.
As soon as I got to playing this game, I couldnt pu the controller down for 2 months... it drove me mad that i couldnt beat 5 damn levels so before anyone refers to any of the levels above 3 as "super easy" ur full of crap.
Nah dude. Level 4 is super easy... except for the mini boss. And level 5... is just the mini boss too. So they don't count. Level wise, this is the hardest.
Yea. The miniboss is usually where i'll lose about 1 or 2 lives. Then i'll usually die a few times on the boss because I won't be paying attention and i'll get hit by the boxes.
The strategy this guy employed at the boss is awesome! He knows that if he destroys the cannons at the outer rim, the thing will start spinning faster, so he just severely damages all of them and releases homing lasers once most of them are heavily damaged. It saved him a lot of effort.
How do these people maintain such fine control over their ship? I have rather big hands so I always find myself fat-thumbing the directional pad on the Dreamcast controller. I can't imagine the Gamecube controller would be any better for my freakish size, either.
Another thing is that, since this is a bullet hell game, the hit areas of the Ikaruga and Ginkei are very small...so you could squeeze them through very tight areas and get away with it.
this man is fucking awesome. i can't actually get my head around how he knows what he's doing. god knows how many hours i've spent on this game and i'm completely baffled by 95% of this video. and to those who are saying they're unwilling to shell out £££ for this game, just pirate the bugger. you can buy a dreamcast for about £10 off ebay (if not less) and download a self booting cdi of it. sorted.
When that last boss starts spinning I always die. It's amazing. Look also he doesn't kill everything which is one of the ways to get good at the game.
this is the most beautiful game I've ever seen, it is literally limitless, there is no true perfect, because in this game, perfection is relative, some think that perfection is playing without a single shot fired from you, some think its perfect positioning in each level, the quality of the game is purely depending on the player of the game itself...
this game truly is a work of art. and this guy is amazing. i once enteres a comp in a uk mag and got 5th place with a 118 chain on the first level but even that took 100+ hours practise just for 1 level and the easyest one. i think the top chains around that time was 136- probably take me another 100 hours to get that
ikaruga is definately a challenging shmup but far from the hardest. look up mushihime, dodonpachi, and/or imperishable night (or any touhou game at that).
£50 (I refuse to say dollars) is a bit too much for one game but this is a hardcore classic and probably one of the hardest shoot em ups I've got. Ironic that this game is all over england where I live :)
Well, maybe it's not that much, especially considering that people now pay nearly those 50 pounds for "next-gen" games that aren't half as fun as this... Luckily it's so fun to play that I don't really get too desperate after being killed once and once again.
