Argentina did so well in the backrow in this match. They were vastly better than the English. Pichot, Contepomi and Hernández were great in the backs too. I remember being worried for Argentina when Tiesi got injured because it meant Avramovic at 13 and a vastly inferior attacking set up. But Ninja Todeschini´s boot was perfect and it made history.

There are way more important tennis clubs in Buenos Aires than Basketball (that's for sure! lol).
And finally tennis player come from all the cities not like basketball players that come mostly from Rosario and few from BA. Football is first (it's a religion more than a sport!), then comes tennis and baskeball (where Argentina are the current olympic champions) and then comes rugby and polo. Rugby is an upper class sport, mostly played in Buenos Aires but the world cup has made it very popular because people connected to the great passion and feeling of pride that the Pumas showed in every game they played.
Correct but, rugby WAS traditionally an upperclass sport in Argentina played mostly by the descendants of Europeans (particularily from the UK, Ireland, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands) with hyphonated surnames like "Garcia-Hamilton", "Perez-Van Tuyne" or "Lopez-Flemming" etc but not anymore. In reality at least since Rugby was made professional (globally, not in Argentina) Argentines from all classes have taken to the game. You need only look at the surnames of Puma players.

Rugby was not played by European descendents and immigrants a century ago, it was played for British immigrants (with money, which was not the case for most poor Irish immigrants) and for other traditional rich families (most of them at that time Spanish and French). Argentina did so well in the backrow in this match. They were vastly better than the English. Pichot, Contepomi and Hernández were great in the backs too. I remember being worried for Argentina when Tiesi got injured because it meant Avramovic at 13 and a vastly inferior attacking set up. But Ninja Todeschini´s boot was perfect and it made history.

I want to say that I was in that match. In the way back to London from Twickenham the train was choked up with fans. In the bandwagon I was, we were only few Argentines. Apart from a couple of bad loser arseholes who started to talk loudly and sarcastically about the Malvinas War, everyone else was alright and we travelled safely and so I want to offer my respects for that. I'm affraid that same situation wouldn't happend in a Buenos Aires train.

Just look at any sports news or Argentinian sport newspaper. First comes football, then tennis and rugby, then polo and racing, and then basket. Sometimes before racing tho. Look at the torunmente, the most sold out tournments are the after football, the tennis ATP and the Davis Cup. There are way more important tennis clubs in Buenos Aires than Basketball (that's for sure! lol).

It's not the second sport of Argentina. Football is first (it's a religion more than a sport!), then comes tennis and baskeball (where Argentina are the current olympic champions) and then comes rugby and polo. Rugby is an upper class sport, mostly played in Buenos Aires but the world cup has made it very popular because people connected to the great passion and feeling of pride that the Pumas showed in every game they played.

Correct but, rugby WAS traditionally an upperclass sport in Argentina played mostly by the descendants of Europeans (particularily from the UK, Ireland, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands) with hyphonated surnames like "Garcia-Hamilton", "Perez-Van Tuyne" or "Lopez-Flemming" etc but not anymore. In reality at least since Rugby was made professional (globally, not in Argentina) Argentines from all classes have taken to the game. You need only look at the surnames of Puma players.

That doesn't make any sense, Most Argentinians are of European descendent. Rugby was not played by European descendents and immigrants a century ago, it was played for British immigrants (with money, which was not the case for most poor Irish immigrants) and for other traditional rich families (most of them at that time Spanish and French). That's why most of them have English, Spanish adn French names or noth at that time.

A century ago, rugby was played for English immigrants (with money, not with Irish immigrants i think because they were poor, but maybe for their sons) and traditional rich families (most of french and Spanish origins), as you could see in thir names.

I don't understand what YOU mean. Almost every Argentine has an Italian, Spanish and to a lesser extent English or French surname these days. So it is impossible to tell from which socio-economic class background they descend. All I am saying is that your mentality towards rugby is of the early 20th century. Yes of course Argentine rugby's roots lay with the rich (as it probably did in every nation), but these days rugby is played by ANY socio-economic status in Argentina.

As for the Buenos Aires thing, some of the better Rugby teams are not from Buenos Aires, but from the South and Rosario. Today some of the most popular rugby teams come from the poorest districs too.

Only the most traditional, oldest clubs are in the richest districs (but that also happen in London) lol. That doesn't mean much in terms of popularity. Only Polo is a real upper-class sport in Argentina that I know. And we are the best in the world in polo BTW. LoL
