@hocplyr98 no, they lock you in for two years and you cant go anywhere. but seriously, it really is 40+ hrs a week, plus work that you need to do outside of class. its like a job, you wont have a ton of free time like a university.
I have a question for anyone who goes there. Is there on campus living or do you have to find your own place to live. Same with food. Do they have a cafeteria?
@MikePianoMan i went and did reasearch on the website and there is no on campus living, but there are apartments? made for students that are within walking distance of the school
I'm 15 living in northern Minnesota and my passion is film. I also just got back from a trip to Chicago and I love it there. This is definitely my choice for college!!
I started in the fall for recording arts and do agree this place is amazing. Before coming here I couldnt even make a new track on pro tools and I just finished the sound for two movies from start to beginning. At Flashpoint you work hard and you love it.
If a long work week is an issue then this isnt the school for you and the people at Flashpoint will be the 1st to tell you. This is an opportunity for individuals to get a feel for the professional world and work on real projects. If they're not up to it they won't make it. When their students graduate they will working in the top companies in the country. Its in Flashpoints best interest to make sure they are prepared. This is the best school in the country for people who want to work hard.
I can contest to this, I am a 1st year student in the Game Dev program and you really get throw in and have to start running or your going to be left I the dust. Flashpoint really gives you the feel of working at a real studio with the several group projects and solo projects you work on. And yes, you must work hard. If you don't it will reflect on your grade drastically and overall your career. I would encourage any hard worker wanting to go into Game Dev to check Flashpoint out. - joe
My son attends Flashpoint as a first year student. He LOVES the school & hasn't missed a day since he started going. He is going for film making. He also goes to many of the opportunities outside of Flashpoint to network, get to know people in the industry, etc. Any school is going to be what you make of it. If you want to be successful in this industry, Flashpoint is an awesome, hands-on experience school. DJ
Also; this goes to lizardhead24, Flashpoint is NOT pulling a "George W." President Bush is retarded when it comes to public speaking but he's NOT the source of all problems our country is facing. Google or Youtube "Neo-Conservatives" or "Neo-Cons" and you'll realize why our foreign policy is an epic failure.
I attended Flashpoint for a year as well, and I had NEVER attended 55 hrs. a week, going along w/Vernonator9's viewpoint. 55 is just too fucking many. Don't worry about the ads and/or the tour. They basically give you a glimpse of what Flashpoint is all about. Although I do disagree on some of the ads, the choice of attendance should be completely up to the people who wish to create digital entertainment. enuff said.
its still 40 hours, always has been. I've been there for a year and I've never had a scheduled day of longer than 8 hours. You may be confused with the new class schedules for next year. They are quite different from this year, but they don't add up to 55 hours. Still 40.
That said, it's a risk going to a new school. Some of you don't want to take that risk just yet, that's understandable. But you shouldn't judge the school until you've experienced it for yourself.
I totally agree. This school is WAAAAAYYY out of line. They need to stop selling, and start organizing themselves. I don't know if an students have dropped out, just yet?
You know, I took a group tour, a few months ago, and found the school to be quite disappointing. My first group tour was in Oct. - And it seems that the school is changing their story each time I visit.
They seem to be pulling a George W.: saying one thing and then changing it way round. For an example: They said students work 40 hours, it's actually 55 hours. It's like they're enrolling young adults into a school that is not yet fully prepared, or even know what exactly they're doing.
The amount of time spent working at school can change, but its about how much you apply yourself. You can't apply for a school and expect things to be handed to you. You need to work at it thats why students are welcome to be there 50-60 hours a week.
i wanna go here so BADLLYYYY!!

I'm going to wait until they get themselves together. Maybe 2010, or 11.
