  • I always wonder what became of that little lead singer...she had such a good voice for a 10 year old. Wonder if she went on to continue singing. I hope so.

Either way, what an amazing moment not only for her and the other 600 children, but for us watching at home as well. Because of the beauty, nostalgia, emotion and sheer energy coming from the audience, this performance will always be one of my favorite Olympic moments ever. :)

  • so much happiness , energy , hope and possibility in this !!

  • This is amazing. Could there be such unity in the world?

  • @Kodakemerson depends where u r and quality and nature of the unity

  • nice ..........

  • I think that for london 012 they can get uk girls too loud to sing the power of the nightmare

  • @dudeyfeb88coach funny lol

  • @klicka83 which part or comment whatever ?

  • where's her microphone?

  • @illbayho She has a head microphone. It's a short one at the ear.

  • so inspiring

  • @idkaboutpeopl3 good call

  • People, don't insult London 2012 before it has even started, you're opinion may be valid after the games but I think the world will be in for a massive surprise come 27th July 2012, remember London is world renowned for it's paegentry ansd thats just what the ceremonies are. People think the UK and US are similar but we're not, the UK has rich history and culture the US doesn't have as much. Anyway I wasn't alive back then but the Atlanta games looked good.

  • @AlexHWalker yes and they are so well organised and efficient and will win the most medals too !! Well argued

  • @AlexHWalker, The 1996 Games were really great in so many ways...this performance is near the very top.

I do feel that both countries have an interesting and rich history, however. Just because the US is a toddler compared to England's many years as a country, doesn't mean that one is better than the other or richer in its experience. I look at it this way...England took her time to climb to the top of the world, and the USA shot very quickly to the top. It's worked out well for them both. ;)

  • @RhythmicIllusions No what I mean is London won't be having pickup Trucks as part of the ceremonies. It really annoys me how people say 2012 will be the worst games ever when there is still 11 months until the opening ceremony. Also accroding to ticket sales London will be the biggest games ever, yet people are insulting the 2012 games and it becomes the top comment. And in fairness the US was built up by the UK, but started a war over taxes.

  • @AlexHWalker duh the uk may have started a colony in north America , but the architecture and culture and landscapes , climates ect are world apart . Not to mention the way things are run . Uk struggles with a bit of snow , riots yet tries to maintain a rep as inteligent , hard working , economic power .

  • Comment removed

  • @dudeyfeb88coach places to 4th in the fifa rankings despite its crap performances and many comments from fans alike that they should not even be in the top 20 . But they have strings , marketing and bullshit that keeps the rep going

  • @AlexHWalker Young toff , you need to check out English buildings away from very old middle class english property`s . Crappy uk orange and cream cloney , bunched up buildings common place . The closest I have seen to usa architecture being similar to uk is in European nations like Norway and Danmark , if you check out places like st charles missouri . Uk housing is gross , almost regressing back to those terraces of the post ww2 era due to space shortage . But hide way in middle class areas

  • @AlexHWalker the uk rep of aristocracy , society all about monarchy and Harry Potter being uk like is tarnished when internationals visit and integrate and get media showing stuff like riots and inadequacy in policing them and airports being bought to stand still with a few inches of snow whereas other nations including usa have feet adn feet of the stuff and everyhing is as normal . Not to mention uk not being a meritocry (another reason for the revolution ) with English soccer team moving up

  • @AlexHWalker...well, the war in the 1770s (what we refer to as the American Revolution) was actually about more than just taxes, but I don't want to get off-topic, lol. But yes, the US was built up quite a bit by the UK, although other countries did play a part in that as well. As long as the countries respect each other now, that's what's important. ;) I do think that the 2012 Games will be a very good Olympics, so when people are criticizing them before they happen, I find it baffling.

  • Comment removed

  • @dudeyfeb88coach, I actually have spent a bit of time in the UK and Ireland, since much of my ethnic background is Irish. :) I just got back from London and Bristol recently (loved Bristol, by the way). But anyway, I just mean that I'd like to wait and see how the London 2012 Games actually carry out before criticizing them, you know? Just like I'd hope that if we hosted another Olympics here in the US, that people would hopefully give us a shot before labeling how we did. ;)

  • I was 14 :) I saw this in my home town in Portugal I stayed up almost all night:)

  • The magic of the 1990s

  • The worst olympics in history is coming up 012 !! Statistics and spin aside with uk taking credit for other athletes coming over to beat them just as other countries having companies in uk where only the gdp stats look good and revenue justifiably attained from cool international companies . Just like the olympics uk inability to win in soccer , in athletics and have their own companies giving people jobs in their own country and really being able to compete rather than just take part lol

  • Absolutely bloody brilliant no absolutely legendary

  • whats happened to cheryl cole has given me re newed hope in justice and reality filtering through the myths of uk and 012 games

  • Feel the flame forever burn teaching lessons we must learn , to bring us closer to the power of the dream !! Awesome !!A more worthwhile meritacratic ceremony than one a few days ago

  • Regardez j'en ai des frissons!!!

  • first watched this when i was 11 years old, amazed by the closing ceremonies of centennial celebration of the Olympic Games. my papa recorded it on a VHS tape for me to watch it over and over again... fourteen years later, it's still a tear-jerker for me... :')

  • A true great inspiring everything thats good in the human spirit song and video!!

  • And I'm delighted to say that what you just heard (and saw) I arranged and orchestrated for the Atlanta Youth Symphony and that massive group of great young people from the Atlanta area! I'm still SO proud of all of them. It continues to be a goose-bump moment for me every time I watch it.

    --Bob Krogstad

  • one of the most awesomest songs and events ever

  • y"all come back now!

  • how old is she now!!! something to tell her kids and grandkids

  • @whatizit21 someone who said there her dad last year said she is 24 , so maybe 25 now

  • @whatizit210 This is Rachel's dad. She is now 25 and living in the NYC area. I still get tingles when I watch it and her entire family remains very, very proud of her!

  • @gapiper That's a badge of honor

  • I think I'm love with Rachel.

  • Me and a couple of girls from my choir at my school are going to sing this while our "Dance Company" Dances on December 2.

  • 3:02 - 3:18. Purer than the heavens themselves.

  • Greatest closing ceremony ever.

  • @inlazlowetrust

Both the worst Ceremonies of recent times. Sure, they had their moments and this song was great and all, but overall a mix of poorly strung together segments, no real logical flow and too many dull moments that just make it not that grand centennial ceremonies most had hoped.

Salt Lake City 2002 learned from this, and presented the world with a spectacular, logical flowing Opening Ceremony, with the expected more party like Closing Ceremony.

  • @inlazlowetrust sooo true

  • I love it. I always hold it in each time i see this video. We need to get our values again. We are losing it more with each generation. We need them back more then ever.

  • The more years go by, the more beautiful this keeps getting!

  • @garydunncolumbusga good call and all

  • when did this happen?

  • @RMFuego august 1996

  • oooh i got goosebumps from this. i was 14 and i wish i could turn back the time to be 14 again and just sit in front of the tv watching olympics and dream of being part of it....

  • It's a small world after all. It's a small world after all!

  • I was barely older than these kids when I watched this live...how time flies:( What I wouldn't give to turn back the hands of time.

  • splendid ,i am speechless:)

  • gotta love her solo in the middle of the song.... the most innocent voice i've ever heard.

  • Was Rachel supposed to emphasize on the consonants like Céline Dion? For instance… Deep within each hearT there lies a magic sparK?

  • @iVideoCommenter Think she`s better with her tone and how she carries the words

  • Atlanta 1996

one of the many reasons the USA should bid for 2020!

  • @Herb615 yep shame not 2016 games

  • @dudeyfeb88coach

sorry! 2016 looked like Rio was the obvious winner but the USA or Canada's getting the 2020 games!!

  • Wonderful song and the children are so great!

  • omg so touching

  • ILove it so much , we sung here in my instute of English and it was very nice.

  • I was one of these children back in 1996! I was seven years old and will never forget it!

  • Comment removed

  • @addie511 are you visable on the video? Is that you at 205 ?

  • @addie511 Haha thats awesome. I was one of the kids in the sydney olympics opening and closing ceremonies in 2000, i was 9! Its not something i will ever forget in a hurry. Hearing everyone clapping and cheering, and when we sang some more famous songs everyone sang along. That has to be the highlight of my life. Seeing my city hold the Olympics and getting to be part of it!

  • @addie511 Which one were you?

  • Comment removed

  • @addie511...what an amazing experience! I'm so envious! I LOVED these Olympic Games...I was just ten years old and was obsessed by the entire two weeks! :)

  • @maprimitha it sets song standards , period

  • woow talk about tears! lol that was sooooooooooooo sweet. reminds me that there is good in the world

  • Beautiful Performance..!

  • I just love this version, with all of these beautiful children ! I would love to recreate this as an opening and engaging theme to THE ARTIST IN YOU television series!

    This is so inspirational! Beautiful!

    One Love,

    Wendie

  • This is soo Beautiful!! And Atlanta to this day is nothing like THAT...never was...great TV, but not the way it is in reality......This is a VIOLENT, Gang, Drug City and will probably never change..kids are so innocent, but Pace Academy will never be "the city schools" and to mix the two is a cruel joke for the few that did participate...

  • Not bad... I think that PDT Esther cast 1 did it better in 2008 because my friend sang the opening of the song and she's one of the best singers I know

  • Who is the girl at 5:00? I can't figure it out, reminds me of Melissa Gilbert.

  • my dream is dead

  • amazing

  • I just saw a video about some stars sang the other song called "we are the world" and in that video you couldn't even feel the singers are really feeling the meaning of the words. But here, the children, who are the most beautiful things in the world, they sang really touching!

  • too right!!

  • 6:12 I'd laugh if they broke through the ice XD

  • @ActerGirl i would not chick

  • @ActerGirl That isn't ice

  • very long time ago

  • it's very good song and the children are really impressionant really !!!!!

    I Love this video

  • THE MEASURE OF A CEREMONY

  • Why hasn't Rachel McMullin tried to pursue a solo career? I think she should go on Idol next year. Or maybe The X Factor when it finally starts here.

  • voice of truth there !!

  • voices of many angels. This song let Atlanta always stay in my memories.

    Incredible awesome !

  • @DREAMWHISPERING trueness
