every time I see this video, I can not stop crying, I get goose bumps, that time passes faster and are 15 years of this.! I would have liked to have seen this live, but he was just 2 years. : (
It's hard to believe that I live in Georgia, 2 Hours north of Atlanta, and was about 6 Months old when the 1996 Olympics at Atlanta took place and all the love that you can see in this performance shown the kids and the Athletes just chokes me up and just makes me wish there was this much peace in the world as there was 15 years ago. God Bless America, 9/11. Never Forget
I always wonder what became of that little lead singer...she had such a good voice for a 10 year old. Wonder if she went on to continue singing. I hope so.
Either way, what an amazing moment not only for her and the other 600 children, but for us watching at home as well. Because of the beauty, nostalgia, emotion and sheer energy coming from the audience, this performance will always be one of my favorite Olympic moments ever. :)
People, don't insult London 2012 before it has even started, you're opinion may be valid after the games but I think the world will be in for a massive surprise come 27th July 2012, remember London is world renowned for it's paegentry ansd thats just what the ceremonies are. People think the UK and US are similar but we're not, the UK has rich history and culture the US doesn't have as much. Anyway I wasn't alive back then but the Atlanta games looked good.
@AlexHWalker, The 1996 Games were really great in so many ways...this performance is near the very top.
I do feel that both countries have an interesting and rich history, however. Just because the US is a toddler compared to England's many years as a country, doesn't mean that one is better than the other or richer in its experience. I look at it this way...England took her time to climb to the top of the world, and the USA shot very quickly to the top. It's worked out well for them both. ;)
@RhythmicIllusions No what I mean is London won't be having pickup Trucks as part of the ceremonies. It really annoys me how people say 2012 will be the worst games ever when there is still 11 months until the opening ceremony. Also accroding to ticket sales London will be the biggest games ever, yet people are insulting the 2012 games and it becomes the top comment. And in fairness the US was built up by the UK, but started a war over taxes.
@AlexHWalker duh the uk may have started a colony in north America , but the architecture and culture and landscapes , climates ect are world apart . Not to mention the way things are run . Uk struggles with a bit of snow , riots yet tries to maintain a rep as inteligent , hard working , economic power .
@dudeyfeb88coach places to 4th in the fifa rankings despite its crap performances and many comments from fans alike that they should not even be in the top 20 . But they have strings , marketing and bullshit that keeps the rep going
@AlexHWalker Young toff , you need to check out English buildings away from very old middle class english property`s . Crappy uk orange and cream cloney , bunched up buildings common place . The closest I have seen to usa architecture being similar to uk is in European nations like Norway and Danmark , if you check out places like st charles missouri . Uk housing is gross , almost regressing back to those terraces of the post ww2 era due to space shortage . But hide way in middle class areas
@AlexHWalker the uk rep of aristocracy , society all about monarchy and Harry Potter being uk like is tarnished when internationals visit and integrate and get media showing stuff like riots and inadequacy in policing them and airports being bought to stand still with a few inches of snow whereas other nations including usa have feet adn feet of the stuff and everyhing is as normal . Not to mention uk not being a meritocry (another reason for the revolution ) with English soccer team moving up
@AlexHWalker...well, the war in the 1770s (what we refer to as the American Revolution) was actually about more than just taxes, but I don't want to get off-topic, lol. But yes, the US was built up quite a bit by the UK, although other countries did play a part in that as well. As long as the countries respect each other now, that's what's important. ;) I do think that the 2012 Games will be a very good Olympics, so when people are criticizing them before they happen, I find it baffling.
@dudeyfeb88coach, I actually have spent a bit of time in the UK and Ireland, since much of my ethnic background is Irish. :) I just got back from London and Bristol recently (loved Bristol, by the way). But anyway, I just mean that I'd like to wait and see how the London 2012 Games actually carry out before criticizing them, you know? Just like I'd hope that if we hosted another Olympics here in the US, that people would hopefully give us a shot before labeling how we did. ;)
The worst olympics in history is coming up 012 !! Statistics and spin aside with uk taking credit for other athletes coming over to beat them just as other countries having companies in uk where only the gdp stats look good and revenue justifiably attained from cool international companies . Just like the olympics uk inability to win in soccer , in athletics and have their own companies giving people jobs in their own country and really being able to compete rather than just take part lol
Feel the flame forever burn teaching lessons we must learn , to bring us closer to the power of the dream !! Awesome !!A more worthwhile meritacratic ceremony than one a few days ago
first watched this when i was 11 years old, amazed by the closing ceremonies of centennial celebration of the Olympic Games. my papa recorded it on a VHS tape for me to watch it over and over again... fourteen years later, it's still a tear-jerker for me... :')
And I'm delighted to say that what you just heard (and saw) I arranged and orchestrated for the Atlanta Youth Symphony and that massive group of great young people from the Atlanta area! I'm still SO proud of all of them. It continues to be a goose-bump moment for me every time I watch it.
@whatizit210 This is Rachel's dad. She is now 25 and living in the NYC area. I still get tingles when I watch it and her entire family remains very, very proud of her!
Both the worst Ceremonies of recent times. Sure, they had their moments and this song was great and all, but overall a mix of poorly strung together segments, no real logical flow and too many dull moments that just make it not that grand centennial ceremonies most had hoped.
Salt Lake City 2002 learned from this, and presented the world with a spectacular, logical flowing Opening Ceremony, with the expected more party like Closing Ceremony.
