He needs to learn reentry if he is going to be a long way from the shore. In narrow creeks, coves & rivers he could just swim to the bank. I agree with another viewer but maybe another life jacket that will float him higher.. Or push down into the water as far as he can and spring back up quickly on top. He needs to practice this till he can reenter to be safe. Especially if he goes out a long way from the bank alone and/or in cold water. He needs to be able to paddle in quickly, "Hypothermia"
