@DarkFilmVideos Well - if you think about it - Anakin prior to being Lord Vader was quite affectionate and close to R2-D2 atleast during the Clone Wars and prior to Order 66 in the ROTS. Just like his continue soft spot for Padme you could say he still had a soft spot for R2-D2 and hence he let the astromech look alike go (I'm not fully sure about this though - if you think what I said is idiotic just ignore my coment :))
