Terrible bass to show bass chord progressions on, without fret dots it's extremely hard for any one to see where fingering is.. Especially when you pass the 12th frets WITHOUT dots.

You are sadly mistaken. it deff helps to know msuci theory ("this stuff"), but if you dont you can still call yourself a musician. not trying to be a dick, but that was an ignorant general statement. Stevie Ray Vaughan couldnt read music of any kind. including guitar music. he said it himself. I believe hes a musician if there ever was one. there are plenty of publicly accomplished musicians who dont read music.

@DakotaNowhere being able to read music and studying music theory gives you options. Understanding music theory allows you not only to know the "rules", but how to effectively break them. Reading music allows you to enjoy more options by being able to take on 'legit' gigs. Broadway musicals, sitting in as a substitute with a swing band, etc. The more you know, the more options you have.

if u dont get it then why are u watching ADVANCED lessons? the numbers he's talking about are the notes in the major scale. here we are in the key of C. the major scale of C is: C D E F G A B C. the 1 four and five being C F G

harmonizing is not the only option as he did, you can also fill the bars as arpeggios on the bottom.
