I just installed Dirt 2 and am having many issues. First, GFWL asks me to log in using an existing Windows Live id--so I do that.Then it says there is an update available,so I allow that. Then, I am asked log in again--and it keeps on looping back to the update.I can only get into the game by not logging in--auto save is disabled. And now after setting to higher res (supported by display) I have no picture--just black screen with voices, etc. I am downloading Patch 1_1.Any suggestions?

DIRT 2 was a bad game starter for DX11 , some other game company should have worked with dx11 at the time, like for example Crysis would have been nice with DX11 and also call of duty modern warfare 2

ATI 4850 is niceish and they have a new single slot 5000 seris card which is DX11 but remember you could get a dualslot card and fit a single slot watercooled (or air cooled if you risky) cooler to you dual slot card...... and rember ATI are well on top of Nvidia ATM.
on HD5770 @1600x1200 graphics set to ultra high smooth as glass ,, and with my Logitech Driving Force PRO steering ,, the game really gives feedback that feels realistic.
One thing that i enjoy about my PC over my PS3 and 360 is the literally thousands of games available ,, and even if it is an older game ,, you can be sure someone has written some patch to make it work with new OS's
Oh and not to mention all the FREE open source games out there.

DX11 is backwards compatible down to DX9. So if you have an ATI HD card, you can play with most of the features of DX11 since its not much a step up graphically from DX10.1. The main thing ofcourse being tesselation and all ATI HD3xxx+ cards have a tesselator.
DX11 is backwards compatible with DX10.1. Even though you only have DX10.1, its still possible to support nearly all the features of DX11 since it isn't much an update over 10.1. You are still going to get the major thing Tesselation.

dx11 has hardware tesselation , which means polygons r increased on 3d models making them look smoother and more detailed , also better shading and all that usual next gen stuff , see dx11 videos for info
PCs will inevitably have better graphics than consoles because PC hardware is continuously being upgraded while the console hardware doesn't change until an entirely new version of the console is designed (like PS2 to PS3). After the consoles have been out for a few years (like now) they're just not going to be comparable to a brand new PC.
@alexanderzero Well you got to admit though the PS3 has some really awesome exclusive games for example Uncharted 2, God of War, Resistance 2, Kill Zone 2 just to name a few. Plus, the graphics are great. The PC is kinda stuck with some crap games right now. There is not much going on in PC gaming lately.
Oh no, what can we poor PC gamers do without those games. With games like Crysis and Stalker and improved graphics in DX11 games like Dirt 2 being a PC gamer is pretty OK :)
If PS3 graphics are great, PC graphics are insane if you have an updated rig with a DX11 card.

Pretty much any FPS, RPG or RTS game plays better on PC because of the controls, and now with DX11 out they will also look much better thanks to better hardware.

The problem today is that virtually no games are made to take advantage of DX11 features (like tesselation) to increase graphical quality without a performance hit. If, say, the Crysis engine was rewritten to take advantage of DX11 features it would run on much cheaper cards.
DX11 games like Dirt 2 only add some DX11 features on top of the existing DX9 engine, without any performance boost (only better graphics).

@FRURMELLL HD 5770 is slow and overpriced. The 5770 is only a 128 bit card. The ONLY benefit it has is that it does support Directx 11.
People save your money and buy a real card like an ATI HD 5850 or HD 5870, or a Nvidia GTX 460 or 470. This way you can keep up with the big boys.

No, no nVidia card on the plant has DX11 support yet. Check with nVidia website for proof.
only cards in the world are the ATI 5000 series of cards, and even then only 5700 5800 5900 series will have the performance for it.
Windows7 comes with DX11, but you dont get to use it :P "For the record DX11 is also all older version of directX"

HD5870 is DX11, Dirt 2 is the first game to officially use DX11

yes you can run it. but your graphiccard does not have directX 11. and you will need the 2 or 3 GB Ram

dx11 has hardware tesselation , which means polygons r increased on 3d models making them look smoother and more detailed , also better shading and all that usual next gen stuff , see dx11 videos for info

some little tiny detail like the brightness better Wireframe composition but nothing really huge... The real difference is between DX9 and DX10/11

PCs will inevitably have better graphics than consoles because PC hardware is continuously being upgraded while the console hardware doesn't change until an entirely new version of the console is designed (like PS2 to PS3). After the consoles have been out for a few years (like now) they're just not going to be comparable to a brand new PC.

@alexanderzero Well you got to admit though the PS3 has some really awesome exclusive games for example Uncharted 2, God of War, Resistance 2, Kill Zone 2 just to name a few. Plus, the graphics are great. The PC is kinda stuck with some crap games right now. There is not much going on in PC gaming lately.

Oh no, what can we poor PC gamers do without those games. With games like Crysis and Stalker and improved graphics in DX11 games like Dirt 2 being a PC gamer is pretty OK :)
If PS3 graphics are great, PC graphics are insane if you have an updated rig with a DX11 card.

@FinnsDesign Are those all the games you could think up. Crysis, all graphics and no brains and Stalker.., one of the most bug ridden games ever developed ever.
And of course pc graphics are good (not insane) if you update your rig. No one said it wouldn't. How can you compare that to a console though?

@toasterboy19 Those are examples of games which were made for PC only, of which there aren't all that many, but the number of games which look and play better on a PC is a lot longer.
Pretty much any FPS, RPG or RTS game plays better on PC because of the controls, and now with DX11 out they will also look much better thanks to better hardware.
Whether or not you consider state of the art graphics good or insane is a matter of perspective I guess.

i am really happy that nvidia have finally release a dx 11 card. i use physx and 3d vision so dx 11 will be like christmas for me.

I totally agree.
While I have a HD5870 it is good to see Nvidia releasing their cards soon.
It should push prices down, get more DX11 cards to the customers, and eventually lead to more new games adding support for DX11.

@Yamaha52g after 100 games you save 1000.00$ by choosing the PC over consoles, because PC games are 10$ cheaper than console games in almost all cases.
Battlefield BC2 =69.99 on Consoles =54.99 on PC
Singularity =59.99 on Consoles =49.99 on PC
this is because when a company makes a PC game they don't have to pay anything to Sony/Microsoft for allowing the game on that system
100 games is what the average person buys in a consoles lifespan (6-10 years)
P.S. the prices are in CAD dollars

@FinnsDesign It seems any DX11 card won't give you the full visual experience, so once again you need a top of the line card with DX11. Mid range DX11 cards were tested and delivered poor fps. how strange

The problem today is that virtually no games are made to take advantage of DX11 features (like tesselation) to increase graphical quality without a performance hit. If, say, the Crysis engine was rewritten to take advantage of DX11 features it would run on much cheaper cards.
DX11 games like Dirt 2 only add some DX11 features on top of the existing DX9 engine, without any performance boost (only better graphics).
