@bgbgeee it can be a problem of compatibility, try right clicking the game icon ---properties---compatibility-­----changes the compatibility for another system like windows vista/windows xp try with different systems and then try to play maybe it can help

this works, here's how it's done

-Download both files

-Download 7Zip (I couldn't do it with Winrar)

-Select the two files

-Right Click on one of them

-Hover your mouse over "7zip"

-Left Click on extract files

-After it's done extracting you will see a new folder

-Inside that folder there will be an file named "Install hal-life 2", click on it and start installing.

And there you go!, please thumb up this comment so others can see ^^

Go to to cmd and type in either "Net localgroup Administrators local service /add", "net localhost Administrators /add Local Service", or "net localgroup Administrators /add Local Service" then type "net localgroup Administrators" and if "LOCAL NT AUTHORITY/SERVICE" is listed, then it worked. Just reboot and you should be good to go.

Make a new folder on your desktop and name it Half Life 2. Place the two downloaded files in that folder. Extract the first file (exe.001) with 7Zip to your new Half Life 2 folder. Do NOT extract the second file, keep it zipped at all times. When first file has been unzipped/unpacked inside the Half Life 2 folder, there will now be an option to "Install Half-Life 2" <-- double click it. Hope that helps!

@toffeespartan After unpacking the 1st file succesfully I tried extracting the 2nd file (file contains invalid data), so I just clicked "Install Half-Life 2" to see what would happen and the whole game seems to of loaded (both files) I've got half way through the game at the moment after extracting the game as I mentioned in my previous comment and have had no problems It seems after unpacking the first file and then clicking on Install Half-Life 2 it unpacks and installs the second zipped file
