Before you vote for the jack-booted thug, ask yourself how many bills did he bring to congress and into law? How many of those bills were good for you and me instead of more dilution of our civil rights? Ask yourself if you believe in a government for the big corporations. Ask yourself if we can afford another doubling of the national debt (I thought Republicans were fiscally conservative). Then ask yourself if you want a government for and by the people. I'm sorry, we do need change.

He does nothing much to represent his whole district. The rest of us think there is much more to Congress than law and order. I certainly have not felt like I have been well represented in the last two terms.

Luke Esser is well known for his Rovian slash and burn tactics. The worst they can say about Darcy is how little experience in government she has. Certainly, she has leadership experience from her days at Microsoft. Reichert on the other hand, has a very nice public dossier of voting records, public records of large pac contributions, visits by Washington, DC dignitaries, $1000 dollar a plate dinners, etc. He's not going to be able to hide much.

I think the community response to the fire is important. The message is one of a community working together instead of a bunch of individuals left to fend for themselves. Healthcare is a good example of this. The opposition calls people that need help "moochers" until the day they need help and cannot help themselves. We are a nation of barnraisers that help each other, not a nation of gunslinging, lawless uncivilized thugs.

I think it's clear that lil ms. political darcy was calculating while the embers still smoldered. "My land, this will make a fantastic political ad. And get me on the front page of the newspaper to boot!"

Some people here call it "staying positive." I like "cheap and tawdry." She shouldn't have brought it up.

Reichert's scar was from a criminal who slit his throat open while he was trying to save an innocent woman. It's a mark of bravery. It represents his life's work - something he should be honored for.

Darcy's house burned down while she was doing the laundry. So, yes, it IS different. :)

I think you don't even get the point of the commercial. It's about doing things together as a community. Reichert is still a policeman in Congress and has forgotten his community.

It's my understanding that the Burners were asleep when the fire started. Actually, their son is the brave one here. He followed his mom's training and alerted his parents to the fire instead of hiding under his bed as many kids do. The good thing is that he, and his mom and dad, and their dog as well, are safe

Certainly, we're all glad they're safe.

But taking a nap and having your house burn down is not a qualification for Congress. It's not a sacrifice. It's a freak accident. Using that freak accident to try and score points in politics is a little tawdry and cheap.

And it IS different from getting your throat cut by a criminal you're trying to save a woman from - that's what we call a sacrifice. And most of us still believe that a life of sacrifice is a great qualification for leadership. :)

I just said it was cheap to use an accident for politics (having an accidental electrical short does not make someone a good leader, either).

Then a member of the Burner brigades said it was just like Reichert bragging about his scar.

And I pointed out that NO, having an electrical short in your house that causes a fire (Burner) is NOT the same as risking your life to save someone else and getting hurt badly in the process (Reichert). That's all I'm saying. :)

Again, I think you don't even get the point of the commercial. It's about doing things together as a community. Darcy brings out several examples of this for example in working with women at Microsoft to advance their careers.

On the other hand, Reichert relies on being a hero. He constantly needs to remind people that he was a Sheriff.

(con't)The problem is that Reichert is completely out of touch with his community. For all practical purposes, he still wants to be a Sheriff and is not an effective Congressman. Bills he's introduced (of which none have passed) only seem to work on helping law enforcement issues. Reichert serves on three committees: Homeland Security, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Science and Technology. Have we gotten transportation earmarked projects back to Washington? No Any biotech projets? No

A Congressman is much more effective when he's not a hero, but a networker. The skills of being able to pull together a team in a committee is much more important in getting legislation out that will get passed and do something. Bragging about his past as a Sheriff - the capture of a killer, risking lives, his scar... does not make Reichert a better networker. Bringing home the bacon does.

Well if you just want a networker for your member of congress, then Darcy's definitely your gal. I bet she can flit around a meeting of mid-level MSFT managers and BS like a pro. Or we could just elect "the community" to Congress since you seem to be in love with the community so much. Most political experiments that talk about "the community" end in disaster (see: a history book). I think communities are best served when people are as free as possible. :)

I agree that communities are best served when people are as free as possible. I don't think that handing over our civil right for the sake of better law enforcement has made our community any safer or any more free. I certainly believe that gutting the constitution by allowing warrant-less wiretapping, suspension of Habeas Corpus and the use of torture all have made us LESS free. Reichert voted for all of this because he's a yes-man to the Republicans. It's really not in out best interest.

For example, I don't think that signing statements that direct the executive branch to disregard certain law. I don't think this is a Republican versus Democrat issue, it's a constitutional versus criminal issue. I will vote for the one that will uphold the constitution.

Darcy has done NOTHING in the community. She has NEVER worked for us. What has she ever DONE? She had an opportunity two years ago when she lost (because she was unqualified) to go out and work in the community. She hasn't.

Burner has been a Microsoft manager and businesswoman. She served as president of the Ames Lake Community Club where she lives near Carnation. When someone is young, their resume is not stuffed full of experience like a career politician. But clearly if someone has been for sale it's Dave Reichert. He's voted with Bush for most of his political career. You know this.

HiTek, I agree. Reichert is a big hero - he tracked down the Green River Killer, risked his life for a woman in distress, he was a notable Sheriff, yada yada. But has being a hero helped him in Congress? Let the results speak for themselves. Bills passed = ZERO.  Bacon back to Washington = ZERO.

Washington gets back 88 cents for every dollar we spend. Why so little? With the massive deficit spending over the last 7 1/2 years, you would think that some of that could have come here.

You could have used the viaduct and you would have been even MORE wrong because the viaduct (State Route 99) is ALSO not a federal road and additionally is not in the 8th congressional district. Reichert is not responsible for solving this problem.

Chris Gregoire and the legislature is responsible.  They've done NOTHING.

Gregoire has done nothing to solve HER problem and you vote for her. Then you blame Reichert for doing nothing on the same issue, which is not in his purview? Insanity! :)
