how many animated series are there? i know that there is the normal one, then "The Batman", which ruined the joker, the old style when every punch and kick was in a montage with a "POW" in each screen and the most resent, batman the brave and the bold which is absolute insanity and i dont know the storyline at all...
The intro always gives me chills, every time I see or hear anything related to the series, I get chills. The second intro was also well done, and I liked the rendition to the theme Shirley did for that opening as well. I watched the episodes when they were new back in the early 90's when I was two. I was born in '91 so if the trolls on these pages do the math, that means I started watching it in '93 lol! Anyway, now I have all the episodes on DVD. You should get them if you haven't already dude!
Music for the series by: Shirley Walker. Inspired by Danny Elfman's awesome theme, but she did the whole soundtrack for the cartoon, R.I.P. Ms. Walker.
Love batman he's my all timefavorite super hero that DVD set was so worth spending the money on of you happen to see it at your local walmart or any other store GET IT your a batman fanatic like me you'll be glad you spent the money on it.
Sweet I bought the 1st season of this show at walmart yesterday 20$ 4 discs lots of awesome speacial features 28 episodes one awseome DVD set love batman he's my all to
i record and watch this show best i remember it, and i was born in 1994... i didn't have cartoon network.... i loved this review and you did it justice... thanks!!!
I do love this program. I grew up watching it. I wish I could get it on DVD. Now as I'm grown up, I can't find the DVDs because they were all discontinued. I have the "Mask of the Phantasm" on VHS, but that's all.
@juanaman Well this was one of my earlier video reviews, and especially of a whole tv show, and hateful commetns arent gonna help you or me, so it sounds like you should probly chill out.
Im so happy that i was born in 90s and had a chance to watch batman animated series :) i remember every night before i went to sleep i always watched batman
and never misssed a show cause he was my childhood hero i was so into it that i made my own cape with mask and i always pretended as batman lol good times good times
I was born in '93 so I got to se this show too and I LOVED it back then, especially since batman is my fave DC hero. The music especially for the opening of the show was so theatrical it was awesome. almost no cartoon in modern times, execpt for one anime show I can think of has such an intense theme song :D the music is so good that it even reminds me of a video game with theatrical music
Can someone please explain to me why kids are the main people who are targetted to cartoons. I mean like batman the animated series, a show that is grimsley dark, and it contains riddles and science problems that a 5th grader wouldn't even understand unless he knew about Biology, or Quantum mechanics. If I had a choice I would say this show mainly is targeted for teens and adults. But I just question........Why do kids watch these things? Is it only because its batman in a cartoon????
far out i miss this show man it was one of the greatest animated shows ever made. I'd watch this after school everyday back in the 90's. Best comic book cartoon in my opinion!
You should not judge people who dislikes this animated show so harsh. Sure, I love this show very, very much. But if a person is not into the Batman universe at all, then they won't probably think much of this show. They don't have to necessary think it's a bad show - but not something appealing to them either.
well...im not really judging anybody, but in a series as intelligent and well directed as this, its tough to see what people could "dislike" it for..you know what i mean
Not really. Just because of the directing, it doesn't mean everyone likes it. People sometimes are just not into the superhero stuff. Sure, I think that it's weird of people to be that stereotypical. But it has to do with what you valuate. Maybe lots of people would like this if they watched it, who knows? I love it. But check on IMDB on haters. There's lots of them. Probably many of them are wrong and irrational as you say, though. I can give you that.
I do see what you're pointing at. But my point is that everything is acheived so well, there's not much to complain about, for example poor animation, ridiculous story, things like that can not be said. I'm actually posting a review on Batman:Mask of the Phantasm on my other channel tonight, stay posted and take a look at it when its up.
Maybe I will. But about the animation... it actually isn't among the best animations - but to be fair, that's because it's a TV show, and not a full length movie.
batman the animated series is the best batman cartoon better then batman beyond better then the batman better then batman the brave and the bold but i like batman the animated series the same omount the new batman adventures
I heard an interview where Bruce Timm and Paul Dini talked about why the show was canceled. The studios actually wanted to keep it because it was so popular but Paul and Timm had been doing it so long they were mentally drained and were actually running out of ideas. They also just wanted to try new things.
well i tink that's a really good reason. I'm glad they didn't give to anyone else to try to do. Cause I'll think it was the best and there's not a bad episode I've seen. Can't say that about almost any series live or animation.
Great review! I too grew up on the show. I've introduced it to my considerably younger siblings and it looks like I've got the next generation hooked! It's a timeless classic
This competes with Nolan's Batman films for the best adaptation of Batman
I totally agree that this cartoon is quite as good as Nolan's films.
In my opinion, this series had the best portrayal of Batman with the voice, the stern attitude and the great stories. As for Nolan's films, he did a great job of taking Batman out of the comics and putting him in the real world with such a rich plot and storyline. He could have done a better job with Batman's character but the depth of movies he made I guess compensated for that.
I use to watch The New Batman Adventures which is kind of a part of The Animated Series, it was released in 1997-1998, there were only 24 episodes. I still prefer the TNBA version of Batman but you made me like the old ones almost as much as TNBA... By the way you can buy the DVDs, there are 4 volumes, the first 3 are the original Animated Series and the 4th is TNBA. I only have the 4th but I'll buy them all.
maybe in the next batman movie christian bello or watever his name is should play batman but when hes batman it should still be bello or watever but Kevin Conroy's voice
mr24do34 you forgot to mention that Batman: The Animated Series was resurrected on Kids WB for a short time. It had a different art direction and a different name but it was pretty much the same show. I enjoyed watching The New Batman Adventures (a.k.a season four) but it was only around for 24 episodes then it got canned in favor of Batman Beyond. And Batman Beyond got canned because of lack of interest.
Nice review. Loved the show as a kid as evident by my fan film based on Mask of the Phantasm. lol Bruce Timm said he hopes to return to his own style, as shown in Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series, saying "I hope to do something in my own personal style again--soon." Which would mean a return to this DCAU Batman which would be amazing.
actually robin was at college mostly he was by himself most of the time except when the changed it form batman the animated series to the adventures of batman and robin
I was 10 when the show first aired (I can still remember seeing the premiere episode for the first time in September of '92, On Leather Wings), and I never missed it. When I watched it again recently on DVD, I was surprised just how many episodes I could recall with almost crystal clarity - I must have caught a lot of re-reruns during the week on Fox, lol. When I watched Heart of Steel, the name 'HARDAC' jumped right into my head, before it was introduced.
I love this Show as a Batman fan, and I THINK that the reason the show was cancelled in 95 was probably because they then release the show Batman Gotham Knights which I guess were made by the same people because the voice actors are the same ones, but the art style is diferent, it's actually more like art from the Superman 90's animated series, and that show is also like a continuation of this one. check it out.
i just bought volume one and two of this series because i was curious of what it was and i am stunned at just how polished it is! it is definatly my favourite cartoon ever! its just that good if you havent watched it do so!!!!!!! now!!!!!!!!!!

There's one thing I think that you were wrong about: Batman wasn't a mean guy, even to the villains, except for maybe the Joker who deserved it. Yeah he kicked some ass, but near 90% of the time, they tried to kill him first. He always seemed to have a great deal of sympathy toward Harley, Two Face, and Catwoman, and always gave them the best case scenario that would result in them answering to their crimes.
