Sorry, Kong wins in both versions. That Godzilla wins in Japan stuff was started by some Godzilla book written in the 1970's. The only difference in the endings is in the Jap one, you hear Godzilla's roar while Kong is swimming away.

That tripe about editing the ending started way back in the 1970's with a children's book about Godzilla written by Ian Thorne. There never were two endings.

My interpretation is he's telling the big ape to keep swimming and stay away from Japan. They changed alot, and I mean alot, of other stuff in the movie between the US and Japanese versions, but the ending only has that one sound effect and a different music cue (most of Ifukube's music was cut and replaced with stock music in the US version).
