Silly Wizard "Live Again" - the remastered, repackaged, complete CD of the band's "Live In America" & "Golden, Golden" LPs is out!!! Available only direct from the band at sillywizard.co.uk
My Gracious Lord, I have found it. I've been cradling this song in my memories for so long. I have been looking up some of my favorite ballads, that i came across this one is beautiful
Hi, the text is about people, who left ireland during the great famine..yes it is sad. Extremly sad..and touching..the singer looks backwarts and sees the coastline..and is crying...
@FederBlaue The song is Scots, although there are Irish versions, I have seen a a version collected in Rathlin Island, in an old dialect of Irish Gaelic. The song may symbolically connect to the famine for some Irish folk, but is is simply a song of lost love. The boatman referred to is the one who crosses the river to the land of the dead. Fhear A Bhata literally means "man of the sticks (oars)". Charon and the river Styx comes to mind.
@makenziecat dont be like that, i was just stressing the fact that i am young and still enjoy old scottish music, not alot of people do. Do you get why i said i am 18 now!
@michaelchristie2008 most people at this age (i'm 16) would say that the music sucks, most of them just to be cool. If they just learned to appreciate beautiful music... I don't think it's weird to like the music at young age, i think it means you give your honest opinion. Anyways, I love it:)
Gorgeous song. And yes, Silly Wizard was the best Celtic group of them all. They pretty much opened the way when no one was doing trad music. Thank you, lads!
