  • @Uuuurk Exactly so I'm not lying.

  • My Dad was in this band. I'm so proud.

  • @richardm123uk Why would u lie about someting like that?:/

  • My Gracious Lord, I have found it. I've been cradling this song in my memories for so long. I have been looking up some of my favorite ballads, that i came across this one is beautiful

  • WHY ARE THE HAIRS ON THE BACK OF MY NECK TO ATTENTION

  • Always loved this haunting song by Paddy Bell with the Corries but this is a marvellous version . Loading into my i tunes

  • Hoi...thanks! You too! greets!

  • Hi OrlopRat42, i've learned it the way I explained it. Thanks for correcting me!

  • @FederBlaue No problem. The fact that you commented at all means you have excellent taste in music :)

  • Hi, the text is about people, who left ireland during the great famine..yes it is sad. Extremly sad..and touching..the singer looks backwarts and sees the coastline..and is crying...

  • @FederBlaue The song is Scots, although there are Irish versions, I have seen a a version collected in Rathlin Island, in an old dialect of Irish Gaelic. The song may symbolically connect to the famine for some Irish folk, but is is simply a song of lost love. The boatman referred to is the one who crosses the river to the land of the dead. Fhear A Bhata literally means "man of the sticks (oars)". Charon and the river Styx comes to mind.

  • You'd be silly not to love this wizard song

  • I know in my heart I should say something meaningful about this song and it's incredible beauty....

but all I can come up with is ....... f'n brilliant. Thanks for this gem.

  • used to listen to this band a lot in the 80s and just relistening now> id forgotten just how brilliant they were.

  • I LOVE this song in both English and in Gaelic. It is so beautiful and emotionally heartbreaking.

  • i am 18 years old and i love silly wizard!!!!

  • @michaelchristie2008 Me too. But no one really cares how old we are.

  • @makenziecat dont be like that, i was just stressing the fact that i am young and still enjoy old scottish music, not alot of people do. Do you get why i said i am 18 now!

  • @michaelchristie2008 most people at this age (i'm 16) would say that the music sucks, most of them just to be cool. If they just learned to appreciate beautiful music... I don't think it's weird to like the music at young age, i think it means you give your honest opinion. Anyways, I love it:)

  • Gorgeous song. And yes, Silly Wizard was the best Celtic group of them all. They pretty much opened the way when no one was doing trad music. Thank you, lads!

  • Silly wizard are magical. Excuse the pun! I love all their work.

  • Quite possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

  • Love this song! Very well done! I too would love to hear more from this album. Many thanks!
