No I didn't enjoy, but nice try. If anything, the two of you should have switch roles but besides that----stay away from musical theatre like this. There are other shows made for pop riffs, but not The Secret Garden
Whoever was doing Archie's part was almost good enough to do this. A little flat and the whole rifting crap is really not doing anything for the song.
oh my god..you can't sing this song like a bloody Backstreet boys' song..too much air in the voice...no dinamics..and you CAN'T make your pop variations when you sing together..it's just..you CAN'T! This song is so beautiful as it is..a personal interpretation doesn't mean going towards the nature of the tack!
its kinda like when aretha franklin or micheal bolton did Nessum Dorma Its scary. You guys have cool voices but not for this song. Get about 4 years worth of training in classical music then try to sing it again!
I think Cory's voice was wonderful! Such beautiful voice! Not that Matthew voice is not good.......it's just that he seems a little stressed in singing this song. Maybe a tone lower is better for him.
but change is the beautiful thing about musical theater. even if it was intended to be sung a particular way that does not mean our interpretation of it is wrong. it's just like most literature or art. Look at the Mona Lisa for instance; my opinion may be wrong from what the painter intended, but who are you to tell me that I am wrong...and music changes, styles change, voices change. the freedom is what makes musical theater so much fun. you shouldn't conform to everyone else. be original
you are right that change is at times good. But the person who is right is the composer. he/she knows what they want out of the song and somem voices are just wrong for what they sing. I also agree that your voices aren't right for this song partly because one of you was off tempo alot of the time. I do think you could sound great singing pop songs though. keep experimenting with your voice and see if you can get a richer(broadway..ier) sound especially for broadway songs! lol. good job though
@achiles05 Pretty sure that the song HAS a story behind it because it's in a musical. Let's say you had these leads and sang this song/all of the songs you had like this but everyone else sang them as they were intended.....uhm....you're not better...you're worse. The show takes place back then, not modern times. Would you make Mozart's music pop? Anyways, great job singing flat. WAY flat.
people do that all the time e.g. sing for the moment by eminem (uses an old aerosmith song). people do remixes all the time. and the story by itself can have any interpretation. it could be two guys singing about a girl that they lost. i never said i was better, and some of the notes were rough. i agree. but if you hadn't noticed, we didn't do the show. we did one song. and there were a couple pop inflections but i do not have a pop voice. and you can't talk shit until you put up your own videos
I like that you did something unique with it and made it your "own"... that's the point, I think. (Some people are so attached to certain musicals that they can't stand to hear the original recordings deviated from...) Whatever someone's personal preference is, you guys are really talented! I liked it! You made it sound like it COULD have been a pop song. Cool.
oh no no no!!! I can't stand this version of this song. THe first singer was pretty good, but the 2nd singer made my ears hurt - literally!! He is off key nearly the entire song....plus, the poppy remix wasn't cool.
The second singer isn't as good as the first, he is a bit flat and nasal. And yes, I hate to say it, but the diction needs a little work. Its just hard to understand what you are singing a little. Other than that good job.
Hey nice singing... honestly though the one who played archibalds part could have been a bit more supported... but it had a great ending. Me and my Brother actually performed the same song for a benifit concert at my church. we gave it a bit more of an opera sound.
But still wonderful job guys. The only reason i give a little critique is because I'm a musical freak. it still sounded great
I think both of the voices were wonderful. This is a beautiful song, and if you two practiced and really put something together you could come up with one very professional recording. Guys with voices like this who aren't afraid to use them are hard to come by. Good luck!
Guys, the Cravens aren't the Lacheys. There are also such things as emotions, diction, and dynamics. The talent and potential are there, you guys just need to learn how to use them.
It was ok....honestly, the voices would have sounded better singing each others parts, cause archie is supposed to be more light and floaty sounding, and all the pop inflection ruined it completely for me.
thanks a lot guys. i sang archie's part and a good friend of mine sang dr. craven. we had the piano multitracked because we couldn't find a great time to sing with the pianist. this really wasn't his style, but i think for any musical theater piece you can put a little something of yourself into it. so obviously pop is his style, so that is the way he sang. i, on the other hand, have my training in classical. i think the two styles compliment one another very well.
I think this song is well enough written to cope with any style of interpretation - its a fundamentally sound song. I like what you guys do but I think you could look at intonation as a matter of urgency guys. Did you record this with piano or was it multitracked because im sure some of this would have been better in tune if you were really listening intently to the accompaniment i gives you everything you need.
dude what is your problem? this is a classical type musical... this isnt an pop song.... it sounded pretty good... but to many runs and weird stuff from dr. Craven
Good instrument. Take voice lessons.

It's poppy. I agree..
BUT I LOVE IT ANYWAY!!! ^.^
I'm a musical junkie, and this is really the first time I've ever liked a musical theater song changed into a song with a bit of pop to it.
Good job!!!! ^.^
