  • I'll never be able to understand how Morrissey managed to put all my feelings into this song. If only I could sing this to the one I love...

  • Am I the only one here from Gavin And Stacey ;p

  • I could put 3:05 to the end on repeat forever. One of the best songs I've ever heard

  • Still Comfortably "Edgy" Johnny Marr Rulez!!!!

  • I've listened to this a million times, and will listen to it a million more; Johnny Marr's guitar riff for the final 40 seconds will never lose its magic.

  • @Shyyrn thats so funny because i keep coming back just for that bit only!

  • @ladylusciouz Have you listened to the version that was omitted from the rank album? (type in there is a light rank )

  • @hanspeterpitsch Thanks man, it was great!

  • 0:25

  • @mipepitomi Gibson Les Paul with a Bigsby Trem

  • @wesmatron thanks a lot for your precisions :)

  • @56postman You are welcome, mate

  • @mipepitomi ps That's a Fender Precision Bass

  • Tempo seems a bit too slow, but thats playing live for you i spose

  • Can't really top the original. Must say, recent cover by Dum Dum Girls is really good.

  • How beautiful does stoned Johnny's Les Paul sound? So clear and chimey! Not one of the Smiths looks out of date, whilst the crowd seems totally stuck in its time!

  • i didnt know Vanila Ice sings this song. oh wait, this is morrissey. how did I get the 2 mixed up? must be the hairstyle. lmao :P

  • The light of 8 people did go out.

LOVE THE SMITHS! jesus christ on a bycicle.

  • Comment removed

  • Cheers man, love it. Some proper mongs in the audience though, was it a concert for the disabled?

  • God, I miss 1986.

  • That bloke's hairstyle at 1:17 just shows how dreadful the 1980's were, except for The Smiths who managed to be cool even in such a crap decade.

  • shite sounding audio is shite.

  • i think andy rourke and mike joyce are bit underrated...i mean they play really good...

  • Johnny Marr looks out of it, but still sounds brilliant. I don't think the Smiths sounded good as a 2 guitar line up

  • Deathless cool. Back in the day these guys were the shit. Still are.

  • Andy Rourke, the best bassist ever.

  • the smiths wearing suits? that's cute

  • @TortoiseDream and it rhymes too

  • How can anyone dance to this song? It's a masterpiece and all, but DANCE to it? Nope, not good.

  • 0:30 what happens here when it goes all wacky

  • @JKinney629 i think it's from an old vhs recording, the tape is going bad. probably why there's static in the background too. good thing someone uploaded it before it was lost forever

  • The smiths. Panic?? 0:04

  • flock of seagulls @1:15

  • Morrissey! Please kick those two fags up front in the nuts for me for dancing like jack offs.... Thanks mate.

  • @Daveoflyers Lol, I'm not sure if Morrisey (a man who protested for gay rights) would appreciate you referring to those two men as 'fags' unless of course you mean to define them as motorcyclists. (The southpark definition)

  • @DramaticAarony So it is ok to kick them in the nutz, as long as one is politically correct? Violence: yes. Freedom of Speech: no. Were all homos.

  • @Samshile My comment was designed only to pick at the irony of a Morrisey fan using the word 'fag' in a question to the man who is known for his gay rights activity. I did not necessarily express my own opinion on the use of the word 'fag'. I imagined how Morrisey might feel.

  • @DramaticAarony In addition, Morrisey has a history of snide and demeaning comments on the Chinese. I dont defend Celebrities with a history of A-hole behavior. Great singer, Ugly ugly mouth

  • And I don't know if they're homosexuals and neither does the guy who originally referred to them as 'fags'. He used it as a throw away term to refer to two people who are exuberantly expressing themselves. Before your insightful comment these were just two men being picked on for standing out but now you have defined them as gay people who should be known as fags if thats what people want to call them. You suffer from prejudice and prejudice is exactly why freedom of speech incites violence. LOL.

  • @DramaticAarony hahaha. I am probably the most non-bigoted person you could ever talk to. I do not ascribe to their political correctness. Some group does not have the right to co-op words. Some group decide and think for the rest of us.Politcal correctness is censureship 'from now on if you use this [insert word} we will shame you. They can bite me. The word "fag" has been used in so many ways over the years. I dont pretend to know how Morrisey used it. homo is a genus= human. Science 101

  • @DramaticAarony DONT END YOUR SENTENCE WITH LOL its the first sign of the disease called "troll"

  • @fiskpool haha ok, I'll be sure not to do that again. LO... woah. nearly done it. Oh the fun to be had on youtube. Tehe

  • this song describes my life! you could download it here for free in HD ;)

    filesmy. com/12h3l5

  • He says ' crashes ' in a Mexican accent. 01:11

  • @silharoun It was an Irish/Scottish accent

  • ...

  • hahahaha cant concentrate on the music because of those guys hahaha

  • I didnt know Jim Carrey sang for the Smiths! :O lol!

  • When my daughter first realized I used to be cool. I was at a record store about 5 years ago, and she was 14 at the time. we come to the counter and there's a guy with 5 piercings and he's about 22. I hear The Smiths playing as I check out and I say to the kid behind the counter, "Good call, playing The Smiths, I saw them in 86, they were amazing", and suddenly he wants to know all about the concert and he's looking at my daughter and going, "Your Dad is so cool." Ah, what makes a Dad happy.

  • @orangeguy1985 awesome story ;)

  • @orangeguy1985 when I was 21 I worked at a Swiss bread and pastry shop, the Chiropractor next door who came in daily for whatever and I was jamm'n some smiths live and he was like...."oh wow, the smiths, I saw them live and i swear perfectly heterosexual men were rushing him on stage...it was amazing" and I was WOW yeah thats sick" I'm paraphrasing but you get the idea

  • I've been listening to this song for 25 years and never tire of it.

It set the bar back then for my idea of what love should be ("...to die by your side, the pleasure, the privilege is mine"). I still think it's one of the most romantic sentiments ever set to music!

  • Says panic at the start...... no :P

  • @qwertyfingerphoto It bothered me, too! But we know better :)

  • And that Johnny Marr solo at the end is.... incredible.

  • This is to me the most profound, heartbreaking smiths song. Especially to the shy and alienated as youngsters.

  • Comment removed

  • 6 people thought this was panic

  • the smiths, and alain in the background.. heaven <3

  • muy buena rola

  • 0:25

i haven't heard them use that chord change before ;)

  • Saw THE SMITHS twice. Hatful of Hallow tour... and Queen Is Dead tour. Both ended prematurely due to the audience over-running the stage. Both awesome. IRVINE MEADOWS AMPHITHEATER. Morrissey had a dozen layers of clothes on and kept stripping them off and never actually got to bare naked because the crowd took over the mic.

  • 80's mosh at 1:13

  • @WinterDweller LOL OMG THAT MADE MY DAY

  • esperamos velos reunidos outra vez!!!

  • the queen is dead

  • The Smiths were the most normal dressed people in the room haha

  • Amazing song, the cover by Liam Fray and Miles Kane is well worth a listen as well

  • this makes me wish that i grew up in the 80s..

  • If you want EMO pioneers, go listen to The Cure...

  • Great Vid!! What I want to know is who is the second kid playin in the background. I never seen a 4th player with The Smiths.

  • @eldragonshiryu75

It's Craig Gannon. He played the rhythm parts. And there were actually four people in the band all along. Gannon was the fifth.

  • So grateful I got to see The Smiths live in 1986.

  • @joidivision did you see them at Irvine Meadows Ampatheater?

  • @joidivision did you see them at Irvine Meadows?

  • @thesphinkster Nope- I saw them at the Fulton Theatre in Pittsburgh.

  • @joidivision that must have been very cool.I missed my chance to see them.I have seen Morrissey over a dozen times and I have seen him play with Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce but never with Johnny Marr. They did so many shows together in Europe but only a couple in the states. We got burned. That would be sooo cool if they ever got back together. At least just for a couple of shows.

  • @joidivision LUCKY man lol

  • @yougottaloveit100 I was very lucky- especially to come to Pittsburgh. Every one usually passes us by- but in 1986 and 1987 we were very lucky.

  • @joidivision you are very lucky! i wasnt even born then! The closest ive got is Morrissey at glasto, i was still more than impressed!

  • @joidivision

    Lucky..

  • @joidivision More like thumbs up for the guy holding him up, haha!

  • how they could dance at 1:12 when there was the smiths at the stage?!

  • @nanys2222 in that time there wasnt stage secure guys, and the smiths playing was "just another weekend". How i wish i could go back to the good old days. :D

  • @nanys2222 because they had no idea what the song was about and were listening to some drivel before the smiths graced their dull little lives

  • is it true that even punk rockers like this band?

  • @SidEskorbuto

    yes, of course.

  • @SidEskorbuto yes it is true

  • Morrissey is the man!

I'am brazilian and say: is very very very cool hair!

  • thumbs up for the guy in blue t-shirt!!!

  • @keionebog his ass

  • @keionebog hahaha

  • @keionebog Oh yes the sticky tape dance, classic.

  • @keionebog Haha. As soon as I saw that guy, I knew this would happen

  • Танцующие ребята в первых рядах потрясают... и это не сарказм!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I can't stop laughing at those guys.

  • @automatichannah ...Oh yes,you deserve some b-boys or emo shit.

  • @EVEROSFP1 What are you talking about?

In case you misunderstood me, I was talking about those guys on peoples' shoulders. Not The Smiths, who are my favorite band.

  • @automatichannah ...OK.Sorry !

  • love the dancing

  • doesn´t matter if he is gay or not - this song is masterpiece!

by the way, I´m not gay :)

I love my girlfriend almost 7 beautiful years

  • @VladoJunior84 You're obviously gay.

  • @xILambyIx

    fagot, I´m not gay =)

  • @VladoJunior84 Is it dark in that closet?

  • 3:22 I want a girlfriend like her ♥

  • The three guys sitting on people's shoulders dancing crack me up.

  • Good bless you for upload is videos.

    Smiths rulessss!!!

  • haha the guys dancing in the audience

  • because i havent gooouuuoooot one anymore (audio fail)

  • @machoway lmaooooo

  • This music is pretty "Emo"tional, but they are far away from the stereotype everybody thinks when you hear emo.

  • @MandaOwl, just for see the people's reaction, and it works. Btw, I really like this and many others Smith's song.

  • The song is incredible, but the people dancing bring it down a bit, especially those two guys near the front row. But you can't complain, Morrisey seems to be encouraging them with his super cool knee-bending :p

  • it isnt exactly music to dance to, there not respecting the smiths tbh really

  • @LukeRoby1994 course it is, whatever you feel when the music you love by the band you love is being played live your gonna have it...you ever been to a gig...its not the same as lying on your bed eating a soup for one!

  • LOL AT THE DANCING :'D

    Legendary.

  • nice voice!

  • Morrisey, the first EMO of the human history.

  • @carloscrjt You can't call someone an "emo" if you don't know what the term really means.

  • @carloscrjt your a cunt

  • @carloscrjt Emo? I never saw The Smiths' music as emo at all. Explain what you mean, please?

  • Comment removed

  • @carloscrjt i thought hitler was the first emo and not morrissey who isn't

  • PRETTY EPIC DANCING IN THIS VIDEO!

  • thwomp! thwomp! thwomp! mike really bludgeons his was through this, doesn't he?

  • Where the hell are the 4 idiots who "disliked" this vid? Hahaha! Just kidding, but seriously...

  • @mistergrin

Its still nothing compared to the 418 who clicked Like. They're totally out-numbered! :-D

  • OOOOHHHH. THERE IS A LIGHT THAT NEVERS GOES OUT...I LOVE THE SMITHS AND I'M ONLY 18 YEARS OLD. WAY BEFORE MY TIME

  • @christinaaat im 15 and i listen to smiths, joy division, roses, cream and hendrix and much more.

  • Que jodidamente horteras eran lo ochentas... Solo hay que ver a esos tios bailando.

  • Check out Simon cowell rockin the drums @ 1:33

  • The best song ever. Period.

  • @lovasip

    Absolutely:)

  • @lovasip yes! =]]

  • Best song ever (at least).

  • I think that they never smiled on a stage.... THESE ARE THE SMITHS LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!!! I LOVE THEM!

  • to die by your side such a heavenly way to die

  • Great song of course, but something is lacking with Andy Rourke and Craig Cannon's performance (the two guitars on the left). They look like they really don't want to be there! Were they worried they had left the kettle on the heat, or maybe had put a fork in the spoon drawer or something?

  • @timnosuke Craig Gannon was never really happy with The Smiths - He said he never really enjoyed being in the band.

As for Andy - He doesn't tend to move much when playing and the bassline for this song is very monotonous if you are playing it.

  • oh god. he has so many poser fans

  • The Smiths invented a culture.

  • spot the morrissey wannabe's in the crowd. this was class

  • Best version of Panic I've ever heard.
