al capone is a great character. i love how he tells the lie and the laugh about it. although, i don't think he is " monster", he is just mad because he doens't know what to do with his son, until that scene he didn't know he was deaf. great job at acting.
While the actors do a great job, it's important to keep in mind the people and these scenes are complete fiction. Al would never have in a million years kicked his son nor would Theresa have called Mae those names. I think it's a sad statement on Hollywood when you have to dirty people's memory with such defamatory fiction just for entertainment purposes. I can understand making Capone into a bigger monster than he actually was, but to go after his family? (Wife, Mother, Son ). How sad!
@caponelives I don't think they are making him a monster. I think that theyre showing the tension there is in the house between the mother and the wife. I think that he feels angry that he has a son who is deaf and feels at fault for his disability. This show doesent make himout to be a monster, but a man who is trying to make it in a land of very little opportunity. I know what point your trying to make but Martin Scorsese, the producer would not sink to that level. :)
@IoOILIAMIOoI I also understand what your saying from the "acting" point of view, but rest assured that the fictional characterisation of Sonny and Mae by Mr. Scorsese, is not at well looked upon by by Sonny's daughters.
They and only they really knew what these people were really like. Too bad Hollywood doesn't take time to do research or ask someone in the know.
@caponelives Even though he says these things, it doesn't mean he means it. I've lived in some really poor areas in my life, and the stuff I hear coming from the family in the next apartment most times make the dialogue found in this scene seem like Sesame Street. Believe me, people DO talk like that. But it means nothing. It's all they know, so it becomes normal and acceptable, get it?
That part, whe Jimmy discovers the kis is actually deaf was so sad

ohhhh, I didn't see that. All this time, Al thought he was retarded until Jimmy snaps his fingers in the kid's ear. He's just hear-impaired.

@cjason123 Well let's hope they don't make a movie about your family and invent some dialog. I'm sure you wouldn't be pleased.

Always great to see the inimitable Ms. Carlo making it happen and creating the conflict in the scene!
