Well, for Rock Band, the intro was far too long. However, as a song on their album, the intro was pretty amazing. I don't feel like it dragging on at all.
I think this is a good radio edit. I think that the regular radio edit cuts the intro too short, but the regular version has too long of an intro for radio airplay.
What the hell is with the bass chart? Honestly. There are 5 notes in that bass line. Five. That is literally the easiest thing to chart in the world and they still manage to make a chart that wraps the notes around. Nice going.
@GanonMetroid I think sometimes when making a chart that is repetitive and/or has only 5 notes, they avoid just charting them simply as one for each color; This could be for the sake of keeping things more interesting. It could also be so that the chart more accurately imitates how the real song is played, meaning that instead of charting one color to one note each, charting colors so that it's more like switching strings instead of just sliding along the neck.
I think the cut for the game is actually a mix between the album version and the radio edit, as this is 5 minutes, not 8 or 4 (respectively). I think Harmonix knew that the album version would be too repetitive, but they wanted to include the intro's feel of buildup, so they compromised and shortened the intro instead of omitting it.
Do you get a bot to your vocals? They're perfectly synced and only hit one line at a time. I noticed they were just as synced in your Personal Jesus video, but the only harmonies were an octave apart -- pretty easily scripted.
@UnderscoreSchlagwerk It's possible that those are the same note in different octaves. So if two people are singing the same note it'll assume that one of you is doing the lower one and one doing the higher one. The harmonies engine is more complicated than most people realize.
@nonzz3ro Huh. I always assumed that the engine would assign a microphone to a line relative to each other in that situation, and that if they were the same pitch it would assign them the same line. I suppose they can't not award points for both people singing in harmonic to any part.
@UnderscoreSchlagwerk It's actually that way *because* it's relative. You have to not only accommodate one singer that could be singing in any octave, but multiple singers, so if one singer is registering a certain part the engine will take that into account when trying to determine what the other singers are singing.
@HammettSHREDZ I prefer the album cut, but playing 4 & 1/2 minutes of chill intro isn't exactly Rock Band material. It'd completely kill everyone's attention span.
@QUEENxClayerx Not if you consider the fact that it is high quality music. If you got into music theory and such you'd notice more readily the full progression of the intro. I think it gives the song so much more meaning when the idea behind it is this guy musically working himself up to saying that he likes this girl. It's not your usual up front idea. Don't get me wrong, this is a great cut, but I'd like to have the opportunity to play that intro.
@ScozzaMeista As I mentioned before, I'm all for setting the mood or giving a song more meaning, but that intro just DRAGGED on like no other. I'm a fellow musician and I can appreciate it when an artist feels the need to put as much into a song as possible (although, there's the occasional "less is more" situation), but that intro just about repeated the same thing for 4 long minutes. Instead of feeling like it's building up, it just feels like you're stuck in Limbo.

You can get double or even triple harmonies through one mic guys. Doesn't matter what octave, as long as it's the same note.

@iflipped4u that's actually exactly what it is. They kept a minute of the intro and cut the rest.

To be honest, I could have gone for the intro. It was the most enjoyable part for me.

They cut the intro? Instafail.

I'm glad they don't have the intro.
It's 4 minutes of the same thing. There really is no feeling of build up.

The whole time since heard a bit of this song, I thought it was by Placebo lol

@UnderscoreSchlagwerk A more likely explanation is that he's singing into two microphones at once.
nonzz3ro 11 months ago
@nonzz3ro I figured that, but there's still the Personal Jesus video. The arrows are synced up as if one person is singing on two different octaves.

YAY! Death Cab for Cutie in Rockband. Wish they had more though.

It would have been 7 minutes of a continuous loop on Bass, 4 minutes is enough. Good stuff for RB, should pick it up.

The new mix sounds so natural! Props to HMX for that one.
Personally, I think you're nuts if you honestly wanted the album cut. Setting the mood is one thing, but that shit just dragged on.

Very nice. Thanks for posting this. I wish they hadn't cut the 4 min intro down though. :)

@ScozzaMeista Really? It's such a repetitive song that it was awfully necessary (imo).
