sad to hear he has passed away , hes the kind of guy i would have loved to hire for a birthday bash he would have gone down a treat great singer and im sure will be missed a lot pity there are no more video clips of him r.i.p robbie
Nice one Larry, may he rest in peace indeed. Christ could that little man throw his voice though, he'd be outside O'Gormans and you'd hear him right down quay street. Great days........... thanks.
Robbie lived in the Rahoon Flats in Galway, an area which became un down but which at one point was a haven for artists and writers of every stamp and even had its own arts' festival. He was originally from Dublin and his life hadn't been a pleasure cruise. We often chatted. He had a generous philosophy on life. He's gone now, as so many musicians in this city that makes itself up every day have also gone. It's great to see he's still remembered.
Theres another clip of him I think taken for the film The Courier with Gabriel Byrne, Robbie has a cameo where hes performing in the street, part of the soundtrack then moves to a junkie who overdoses in a toilet, Ill see if I can link it. Robbie was a good smoking buddy of mine, Im also a busker myself singing with the bodhran..
I remember Robbie when I worked in McDonalds Shop street Galway in early 90s, he used to come in for a cup of coffee and I used to count out his loose change, a very insignificant man with a significant voice, rest in peace. Enjoyed his prescence.
Hi Larry, I was driving to work in Liverpool today and I thought I shouldnt have said the word insignificant, it was a comparative in some sweet inoffensive way. Robbie done no harm to anyone and pleased many with his fine voice, as you guys say in Ireland he was a poor ould' creature, God bless him in a better world.
i remember poor oul robbie great oul soul he used 2 live up the bk of me in westside wiv his girl anna r.i.p robbie
