@Roughsauce All four of Mastodon's studio LP covers were done by Paul Romano, and all of their miscellaneous artwork that I've seen was done by him, as well. Better is a relative term. In what aspect are they better? Playing technical, fast scales? Maybe so. But that doesn't necessarily make one a better musician. You're comparing apples and oranges.

Dream Theatre & Baroness both fail. Dream Theatre are very technically versed musicians but their music is some of the least catchy in progressive metal. Baroness sounds like Mastadon and Clutch (an even worse classic rock wannabe band) ripping off Thin Lizzy guitar harmonies. We could sit here and argue it forever, but Music is an artform, and I've never heard a fan of Van Gogh tearing apart Picasso's work just because it's not what he digs.

I think Baroness has way more feeling, but thats my own personal opinion. The musicianship in dream theatre is good, but theyve been around like 5x longer then baroness.
To be honest anymore Baroness are writing shit miles ahead of what Dream Theater are right now. Baroness write really good compositions and the songs themselves are just far better thought out then most new DT. Plus their lyrics are fantastic.
I know what you mean. But I think what they are doing is far more original and meaningful than what most bands are doing right now. They have the full package and it is hard to come buy now a days.

I first heard Blue Record, and it's my favorite of the two. If you want a heavier album, go with Red Album. You really can't go wrong either way because they're both unique and different, but both equally as good.

I ment to say that knowledge in technical ant jerky playing does not automatically make better music. Sometimes it's better to have less knowledge and less notes in your music to keep it satisfying and consistant. I know what you mean. But I think what they are doing is far more original and meaningful than what most bands are doing right now. They have the full package and it is hard to come buy now a days.

I first heard Blue Record, and it's my favorite of the two. If you want a heavier album, go with Red Album. You really can't go wrong either way because they're both unique and different, but both equally as good.

"written on the whiteboard" than baroness, there is much more precision in
D.T 's musicianship, but there is a time and place for both styles... as a drummer
of 17 yrs I personally consider them worlds apart in terms of style and well as skill. B' takes a couple of days to master...D.T takes a couple of months...

@UnforgivingCritic one of the biggest differences between the two bands is the style of signing.. best thing to do is to simple search for yourself so that you can hear the differences for yourself. Dream Theater in my opinion is not as heavy and it's not that great a band, in other words I shit on Dream Crap any day.

I ment to say that knowledge in technical ant jerky playing does not automatically make better music. Sometimes it's better to have less knowledge and less notes in your music to keep it satisfying and consistant. Seriously, who gives a shit that Mike Portnoy can keep a beat of 16/86 or something if the song sucks.
