  • a down to c.

    e down to???? anyone?

    beginner here :\

  • @uhhhwhattt not a beginner song

  • @uhhhwhattt you tune the 'E' down to C, and keep the other notes in standard tuning. If your a beginner and want to learn to play some john mayer songs, I would start with 'why Georgia'

  • @uhhhwhattt

    Low E down to C, that's it.

  • people who take the time to make these sort of videos are not only a credit to youtube but also obviously dedicated to playing their instrument. Well done

  • I dont think its swung.

  • you are a terrible teacher

  • good, but where's part 2 brother

  • wrong way

  • Watch a Crossroads Guitar Lesson in my perfil - John Mayer Version - Album Battle Studies...

    See you...

    Edu Duarte

  • If you don't know how to grab a Cmin chord, you shouldn't be trying to learn this song.

  • A a beginner who doesn't know. Does that make me a moron? What kind of a dumb comment is that? To you, then, every beginner shoul either know how to play a chord from the get-go, or not even try?

  • The point I was trying to get across, is that a beginner should not try to learn this song because it's not good to skip ahead of your skill level. You should have all of the basic fundementals down pat b4 you try to learn a song like this......I definatley concider knowing a Cm chord a basic fundamental. Get It!!!

  • Ok....A misunderstanding on my part. My apologies.

However, although it's more logical to know the rudamentary facets of guitar playing first, I don't think it's a must. Stevie Ray Vaughan played his whole life without knowing musical notes. That's how most musicians began to play in the firstplace.

  • Don't worry mate. I don't even know the whole cord and learned this song. Heck, I even learned much harder piece like Andy McKee's Drifting just from watching Youtube tutorials.

Just play & enjoy yourself..that's all that matters.

  • Very true. Also I'm tryin my best. Thanks for the encouragment :)

  • @XJONGSANGX80 jus saw ur comment bro... i really wanna learn this song for my girl...could u plz suggest me sm gud/original tutorials on youtube....frm where did u learnt this song..?

  • Is WHAT a joke?

  • Again, refer to the age of the videos, and also, "Could you do better!?"

  • Thank you Mark for the breakdown. It's refreshing to see a properly made lesson. Lesson #2 incoming?

  • i doubt it, your videos suck, especially classical gas

  • Notice how old those videos are? That's the year in which I discovered Mayer and started getting good.

Besides, I'd like to see you play Drifting as well. (more dickishness)

  • i wouldnt have a hope of playing it. but then again, im not the arrogant little shit gloating about how great i am.

  • I was simply indulging my ego. I said so, did I not? You could play it too! You have a hope, if I do, you do!

  • Holy shit, you're being critical of this guy when he is clearly several times more talented than you? How bizarre.

  • Okay, have you seen my stuff yet?

  • Yep, classical gas was especially bad while "Drifting" and your other little "funky" Nep-tuna tapping songs were mediocre at best.

  • My major problem is that when i wanna learn a new song i always try to play it as fast as the song right away... >:-(

  • Hahaha me too ^__^ I hate playing slowly

  • boo boo

    not cool man -*-

  • thats great and all thanks for the chord lesson..can we acctually learn the song now?

  • if you want to really want to kno how to play this song look at neon ttorial at related vids

  • cruel

  • What the holy hell was this waste of time? Thanks for showing us for 3 minutes how to bar a fucking Cm chord.

  • jezus dont freak out.. keep your g-string on.. (oh my god that was the most terrible joke ever)

  • dude no body spoiled youre string but you.

  • well instead of spending a minute writing the comment, why dont you spend that minute tuning your E string!

  • John mayer actually thumbs the bass notes if anyone thinks they can make the stretch. also he slaps the bass notes

  • dude, if you dont know how to barr a Cm chord, neon is not the song you should be learning.

  • that is Cm....

  • good job, waiting on part 2

  • shut-up and play

  • I got the no room for squares book, and your chords r way off from wat he plays, but it sounds ok

  • u have issues dude...

  • hahaha good stuff!!!! Disney channel hahaha!! i have to use that!

  • we've the chords pattern but for the rythm how do we do ? It's a pitty..

  • excellent, very helpful esp with the chord patterns. i'm a flat picker so its tough learning JM's finger picking style. hope you get the next vid up soon. i luv this song

  • ......

  • Kids?

  • You know, those things that become grownups that end up either feeding starving people in Africa or randomly killing their classmates depending on what others help them become?

  • Also I appreciate your comments and your perspectives, but I would like kids to be able to watch the videos and join in the discussion, so if you could keep the swearing to a minimum I would appreciate it.

  • @makibajo2 I'm impressed if your kids are learning neon...

  • ur a dick head spidey, get off yourself. thanks for the lesson makibajo2!

  • ok u go ahead and learn half the song.

  • ok, before i put up the next video, go ahead and prepare yourself by learning to do this right hand technique. Just to prove that i really do care about your education...

using just the thumb and index fingers of your right hand, play these strings in this order, C D G B, (aka 6 4 3 2) using this fingering: T I T I. Thumb downstroke on C, upstroke index finger on D, thumb downstroke on G, index upstroke on B. This is the basic right hand pattern. mastering it will make vid 2 worlds easier.

  • wheres part two? i hate it when the dont finish the stuff man FOR FUCK SAKES!

  • I really am sorry, I just have alot of irons in the fire right now, have you ever had a busy stretch in your life?

  • Hey man, are you going to finish the song? Because some of the videos on this song are fairly crappy, and you seem to have this down well

  • excellent excellent excellent video, the best tutorial for this song i've seen so far - but could you perhaps finish the song? the part you covered could be considered one of the easiest parts. in my opinion, the challenging part of this song is getting the thumb-slapping rhythm down with the main riff

  • Nice and clear exlanation.

  • thank u so much but im not good at following things can u send me the tabs? thx

  • I sort of learned this by listening, I mean i could do a tab, but I'm afraid I don't know what the best way to do this digitally would be.

  • well u could just right them down video tape them and then post it. if thats not asking to much

  • thaannnk you soo much!

  • Dude, thank you so much for helping us out with this tutorial. John Mayer songs are tough to learn for beginners like me and your instructions are making it a lot easier. This song would've taken me so much longer to learn if it weren't for your videos.

  • just a bit slow...

  • Thanks man!! plaease make more tutorial Videos!!!!^^

  • 3,098 veiws and 1 comment!?!?!? what wrong with you people!?

  • took notes off to try , good instruction thanx. ill check back for the next part once ive managed it.
