  • This is the only good song on this DVD. This is an instance of where Daryl Stuermers playing is too flashy and Steve Hacket was better. Same for Firth of FIfth. You have to give Daryl One For The Vine though and he absoloutely burns up Fountain of Salmacis on Three Sides Live. Oh and In The Cage is a million times better Stuermified as well. As an aside, why oh why did they leave off the amazing In The Cage medley from this concert? Who the hell wants to listen to Invisible Touch? It's SHIT!

  • @Penguinarmy69 Here's an answer as to why the ITC medley was excluded from the video: It was an early HD recording, and the tapes required to record the HD signal only ran at a maximum of 1 hour and 30 minutes each. So, rather than deciding to take a break to change the tapes (it usually required about 10-15 minutes), the band opted to continue the show and use the medley as an "intermission" between tapes. The medley still exists in audio form - send me a PM if you're interested.

  • @SPeacock But why not change the tape during Invisible Touch, or That's All, or Throwing It All Away, or basically any other song from this poxy era? I guess the In The Cage Medley reminds them of a time when they weren't making absoloutely gob loads of cash. C'est la vie.

  • No that is not Steve Hackett in this live show. Its Daryl Stuermer. Hackett had left a few years before this. Mike played some guitar though.

  • Was Mike playing bass or a regular guitar in this song?

  • He was playing bass. Steve Hackett was still there when they recorded that and he still took most of the guitar parts back then.

  • Actually, both; he's playing bass for the first half, but then clearly switches to a guitar beginning with the "Dance on a Volcano" riff at around the 3 minute mark. All the bass parts after that are pedals.

Mike regularly played guitar and bass pedals simultaneously in concert. This is just one instance of that. An amazing, and underrated, musician.
