@Imperialscout2 They did not send therte entire fleet trhe bismarck was badly damage by incomplete HMS Prince of Wales which only had 6 main guns in action and civilian workmen onboard, bismarcks WW1 design faults, weak deck and turret armor, 3 engines/3 screws, single purpose secondary guns, lousy AA protection could not stop 6 obsolete biplanes. Bismarcks equally weak sister tirpitz only fired its guns at weather station then tried to hide out the war in Norwiegean fjord.
@jers59 you said that already.... and if I remember correctly, mr Winston Churchill said the British navy would not rest until the Bismarck was sunk - so as much of a "Design fault" as she had, she was still a big threat to the British - and she sunk herself in the end anyway - so it was never defeated, just compromised... to the extent of having to commit suicide
@Imperialscout2 The RN defeated the bismarck it was damaged beyond repair, was sinking the Admiral sent cruiser in to torpedo it and speed up the sinking the bismarcks TDS was penetrated by british torpedoes and recent studies prove that bismarck suffered from poor welding one reason the stern fell off at the surface and poor design. In its last battle it failed to score one hit had 2 main turrets knocked out by 1/14 inch shell and was destroyed in less then 2 hours.
