Wait so would a jack stone or another large stone even be able to pass. Or would the pain be to much even before there would be a possibility of passing it?
Is kidney function impaired due to this type of procedure? Secondly, wouldn't vibratory waves (I can't think of the exact terminology) work for this patient? I understand that these types of waves can break down gall bladder stones (or maybe they break down easier because they are bile and not a concentrate of Ca, etc) without invasive procedure.
A single tiny stone is absolute agony. How could he have stood this? They must have been in there for quite some time. Absolutely incredible. Also, the laparoscope seems to do lots of ripping and tearing to the kidney but I guess it's magnified quite a bit
OOOOOOOOOOOOh my gaaaaaaaad, that's insannnnnne. I'm normally fine with watching surgeries, but seeing those stones which, to me, looked just unnatural, literally made me queeeeeeeasy........that was too much.
Oddly enough this was one of the most intriguing videos i've ever watched. Now, here's a question for you BrianGolde. Was this an abnormal kidney stone scenario? I thought when someone had a kidney stone, they just had one that eventually passed. This looks like a super serious and almost deadly collection of stones you're raking out of this person, i mean they just kept comin' and comin'. What truly causes this?
@bmcgann17 this is how my kidney are,i have msk, medullary sponge kidney,i scared but can't wait to get rid of some of mine, you are born with msk!i pass stones some times daily :( life sucks for me :(
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember quite a few years back (maybe 2 decades or so) there was a lot of talk about using ultrasonic waves to smash apart stones in the body (thus eliminating the need for surgery). Has there been any further development in that area, or has it been deemed not practical?
@cashcleaner Correcting you. Shockwave lithotripsy is the use of focused sound waves (not ultrasonic waves). It is effective for treating relatively small stones, but is not useful for treating a large stone burden, as in this case.
If this person had all these stones, was he or she in constant pain for years? or was it gradual what are the signs for the rest of us....and how do we get checked out without having to dig in, and have a looksee?
ohhh my god it is like some living being layed eggs of kidney stones there how many stones just can't believe it how can a person live with so many stones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@sfranklin0440 The exact number was hard to say, since a bunch of it was really small stuff. It was the most stones I've ever seen, something around 100 stones.
Great video! I saw this and then decided I would make kidney stones the topic of my paper for Anatomy and Physiology. Thank you so much for sharing this and providing my inspiration to know more about them! :)
i dont think this is the kidney. mom had her bile stones done this way. i have kidney stones and they look waaay not like this :S its impossible that someone could have so much in his kidney .. i think its the bile
@xxdinaliciousxx Yeah, thanks for the comment. I'm pretty certain it was the kidney I was operating on! :) FYI, a kidney can become completely filled with stone, much like a plaster of paris cast filling all available space.

I feel bad by the fact that some viewers can even live a comment with out using a vulgar laguage I have so much respect for you and for what you do ,and all those years of study that you had to go through

First you know I wasn't trying to insult your video right? I love the reason that you chose this song but at the same time you can see how it's somewhat.. different for music you'd hear over a video of kidney stones being extracted? Lol.
You, sir, are... something else. I'd like to shake your hand.
Were you involved in this procedure? Or are you simply the video uploader?
@RaidersFan2469 Yes, this was my procedure, as well as video edit. If you have an idea, I'm open to suggestions for future nephrolithotomy soundtracks.

That is a pretty amazing amount of stones. But wouldn't some kind of suction instrument be more effective on clearing out the smaller stones quickly?

what do you guys do with the stones?
unsafe12345 6 months ago
@unsafe12345 If they're uniform in size, we polish them and make a bracelet or, in this case, a double-stranded necklace for the patient.
j/k Truth is that anything removed from a patient goes to the pathology department for identification. Stones are sent for chemical analysis.
