First I was like...WHAT DO YOU MEAN, HE DIED IN A MOTORCYLCE ACCIDENT?!? I was as sad as Simon...sniff, sniff...and then my heart swelled at the end...SQUEE TO THE POWER OF INFINITY!!!
This episode came on when I was in a hotel room, watching public access TV. I thought it was genuine, and wondered if I was losing my mind, until David Tennant came on and I understood!
I was in a hotel room when this episode came on public tv. I had never heard of it before, and really thought that it was a genuine show, and that it was just really weird :P
OMG! This one's great, especially if you know the background of the actors. David Tennant lived with Arabella Weir for 5 years when he first moved to London (not romantically). They met while filming "Takin' Over the Asylum". They've also done a Dr. Who audio together where SHE plays a female Doctor! He's even the Godfather to her son. I LOVED it!
I love how subtle this program is! She is depressed, wants kids, and is trying to be as posh as him, even though she never will be. He is not attracted to her at all, appears to be gay (the tennis player..), and has a 'thing' for dogs.
Oh my god, DT is so cute in this 7:49 is perfect. I love the heavenly music and the light when he comes on. "I shall never play tennis again." Guess you will ;) Funny they used David for both tennis coaches. Did anyone else get the "oysters enflagrante" joke? I think she said that b.c. Richard is so attracted to Pieter and oysters are supposed to be aphrodisiacs and they're on fire. Lol. Thanks for this ep :)

this series is absolutely incredible. but at times i wish there wasn't the gay undertone in simon. i think it would work even better if they were just a plain ole bitter and passive aggressive couple. anyone disagree or agree?
I agree wholefartedly Terrance! What's also hilarious is Richard E. Grant is so ace at playing snidey drunks, yet IRL he's allergic to alcohol and by all accounts is a jolly nice guy
There's another episode where she says 'where would you be without me?' he says 'Mykanos' - the whole gay thing is so worth it just for that. Also, there's the whole British Aristo thing where they HAVE to breed - regardless of pleasure, hence the (quite undeserved) English reputation for repression. So, for me, it should be there. It's funny.
hah hah! i swear i love Richard e grant! he's so funny! thanks for posting i never know when this lil shows going to be on....i sorta just discovered it on PBS...and don't forget to embaress the chicken

It's definitely Lumley. I'd recognise that sexy voice anywhere!

She said 'in flagrante,' actually, commonly used as a euphemism for being caught having sex. Which is equally as apt, really.

Diagree.
It would lose the dimensions of irony--his bitter repression, her oblivious denial--that make it disproportionately funny.
The visual and verbal double entendres are so much a part of these sketches.....eliminating his gay identity would be difficult to replace.
