lol well out of all these examples I'd say only the ones with Starling are really lesbian in any way (it's cute how she tries to hard to impress her). The others just seem like an enthusiastic girl who doesn't hide her admiration for other women. Of course I haven't seen this show in years so there's probably more to it.

It is a KID'S SHOW! They would not bother putting subtext in a kid's show. This is because kid's don't unerstand subtext

Anyone finding subtext is over analyzing and putting adult thoughts into a show that was intended for kids.

Actually, it's done more than you think. See, it may be a kid's show, but these shows are written by ADULTS. And these adults are certainly capable of adult thoughts. I've seen this in other shows, and even some old movies. See, since kids don't understand subtext, it's okay for them to put some incredibly vague things in there for other viewers to find out. So while they may not put any blatant content out there to suggest anything to a 7-year old, they may put something only we would see.

I remember an episode of Time Squad where the historic Lewis & Clark were essentially depicted as a bickering gay couple (one as a campy housewife type and the other, the butch slob). And that's without mentioning the main characters and their "adopted son". So this is nothing new in cartoons for kids. Even from my own childhood, there was the episode of Jem where one of the bandmembers start a duo with a girl from the rival band, with some very awkward scenes sprinkeled throughout.

I may not agree with your choice of some scenes - I didn't see any subtext in the Suzy Lu scenes, for example - but overall, my opinion is the same as yours. The show's creators might not ever say it loudly, but I am almost sure they know what they are doing.

By the way, you might want to include the massage scenes from the episode 33. Even my girly, slash-occupied brain screamed "FEMSLASH!" during those. :D

Yes, the Suzi-Lu ones are a bit stretched, I just got inspired by people speculation that she was a Stork fangirl, from the way the trailer was cut. When she later stared at Piper in the finished episode, that got me thinking. I'm hoping for some more from 33, once the final part is up, but the massage was very obvious. Nerd Corps know what strings to pull. And don't get me started on Stork looking like a prostitute in last week's ep.

Actually, there's slightly more evidence in the show that Piper is either gay or bi, than there is for her being in love with Aerrow. Giving emotional support is the closest thing I've seen between them, but that's enough for a lot of fans. The scenes in the video are more interesting because they often involve semi-flirtatious behaviour.

It wont be clear yet. In the interview with Asaph Fipke, i think he said that he might reveal some background information in later episodes. Meaning that any thing could happen. Till then we will have to guess.

Animators have used stereotypes of all kinds for decades, from racial to homosexual stereotypes. Just look at the history of Warner Bros, Hanna-Barbera and Disney. Pretty sure you can look up plenty of animated shorts and find something that uses racist stereotypes or cross-dressing or even effeminate behaviour. It was all done for cheap gags, and in some parts still is. (Not so much the blatant racism, though.)

I'm just glad Piper isn't portrayed as the "sazzy black girl" stereotype that's still pretty prevalent in television and movies. Part of the reason I like her so much, actually.

And if there's ever been anything really blatant in the show, look no further than ep. 24, with Finn getting Captain Scabulous to dance, or ep. 25, with Ayrgyn, the most campy character in the show so far. Piper's sexuality, is one of the more understated things in the show, but it's there.
