If you want to sell your 250cc months, or even WEEKS after you've purchased it, it means it's accomplished its job. It taught you discipline, confidence, etc.
I'm going to get a 2007 cbr 600rr next year, basically after years of research and talking to people, it really comes down to the person. Personally for me, I know very well if I got a 250r I'm going to get rid of it faster than actually getting it's worth out of it due to the terrain, type of riding, and how confident I am on tackling new ventures. Yeah, I could baby step it and when I did get on a 600 rip it like rossi, but I got my reasons to, also 600rr is a tamer beast compared to others
my first bike is the 2005 honda cbr600rr and I've had it for 2 years now. problem with the 250 is your going to want to sell it right after you buy it
I like the 250R's, but they do sound like a leafblower. I started on an '06 R6 Raven and I was fine. As long as you have any self control you can start on a 600.
Here in my opinion on this a 250 is a great starter bike for anyone who has never rode one before that is true but i i think it really depends on the type of bike you really want and if you feel comfortable with it i started out on a katana 750 for my first bike so a 600 or a 250 would both either one be a good first bike if you just take it slow and dont try to do anything stupid its all about the enjoyment be safe out there and watch for stupid cagers
600CC streetbike is sensible enough. Easy to ride, good power, nimble and light.
Started out on a Yamaha FZ6N, and am now riden a Suzuki SV1000S, the only thing better about the Suzuki is the engine, the Yamaha did every thing else better.
i think most people that dont have a 600cc say not to get one because they didnt get one and everything turned out okay, but what if nothing happens if you get a bigger bike? not everyone needs a 250, i personally couldnt ride one because be id be in the highest gear all day long, which would be fun as a confidence booster but at the end of the day you need something with a little more power
Girl here. I started out on my DN-01 last fall. It feels great! I have my 450 from 17 years ago that I basically ignored all these years. I will get that little guy going hopefully this summer. But yeah, the DN-01 is a 680 and easy enough to deal with.
I disagree... my first bike (still my bike) was a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R 600. I did just fine. I'm a fast learner too but I'm a 130 pound girl and my second time on a motorcycle I rode my 600. I personally think a 600 is the way to go. Unless your a slow learner.
@GraceGsxr600 I am not saying that everyone should start on a 250cc motorcycle. What I am trying to say is that everyone is different and you need to know a few things about yourself before you hop on any given motorcycle. Maybe a 600cc bike will be right for you to learn on, which is great because you wont have much of a reason to upgrade later, but other people need to start with something smaller. So what are you disagreeing with?

On the job I ride a Yamaha FJR1300.
Off duty I currently ride a BMW K1300 GT.
I was surprised how agile it is!
Ok it's huge but it rides real smooth.
Great vid btw!

I started on a BMW F800 S. Great bike for learning.
