@elijah2723 CALM DOWN. First off, this video is outdated by over 2 years. Installer does not function anymore. Secondly, you have to jailbreak your device to do this. If you have an iPod touch 2G or an iPhone 3G, I have a video on my channel that deals with jailbreaking these devices. If not, there are 100s of other videos from different people on YouTube that can help you.

when I start installer.app on my iphone 2g I get the tasks to refreshing 2 files/sources.. and after approx 2 mins I get the error "Error Timed out"

There's no point doing it this way any more. Just restore your phone to the latest software and jailbreak with the latest version of PwnageTool or b1ackra1n or something.

It doesn't matter whether iTunes is on or not because your not connected by wire so it can't interfere. The Phone/Touch has to be connected to your wireless network all through the video.

Well, if you have a jailbroken 2.1, there's no point because Installer 4 BETA 8 is included with QuickPwn and PwnageTool.

I have a jailbroken 2.1 It seems that Installer 4 that comes with QuickPwn & Pwnage tool is different than the one I keep seeing in demos and tutorials, etc. There is no multimedia section and it's got very limited app selection. What's up with this? Thanks

Installer 4 is completely rewritten by a different bunch of people. It is still in its BETA stage and the reason why it has a (currently) limited app selection is because firmware 2.x is completely changed.

All of the 1.x.x stuff is gone and replaced. So, you must give the developers of all the old apps time to rewrite for 2.x.

You could increase the number of apps by finding and adding more Installer sources, though.

I think, I'm not 100% because I don't have an iPhone, but I think that if you restore, you have to unlock it again (???), but if you haven't Apple won't block you, just don't restore to 2.1 or you're screwed, just make sure you restore to the same version of software that your iPhone runs now. And don't use iTunes 8 until it's fully compatible with jailbreaking.

Cydia comes with these command line utilities called "core-utils". It's very possible that the chmod utility is corrupt, so restore your device. There is a harder way to do it withut restoring, but I probably can't fit it all here.
